My mind initially went to “Temper Tantrum” day too, but I think you’re right, she meant “Spewing Blood” day; to explain to others, Elias tried to get Chise to stand down from dragon rescue on account of how fragile she is, but she used the fact that the day her body started collapsing from making the Fairy Ointment, she was in a lot of pain, but she came through while recovering in the Ant Hill, proving that she is not as fragile as Elias makes her out to be. Also, because they voluntarily left their home to seek treatment for Chise, while the dragon hatchlings were abducted, so while Chise had a choice to leave, she still got to go home when she was healthy again. The baby dragons never made that choice and, without help, could probably not make it home ever again.

I don't know if it was ever explicitly stated, but from what I gathered, Elias is self-conscious of his appearance.

I read in a few fanfics that since he is not fully fae that normal humans can actually see him. Hence why he uses a glamor spell. He might not do it all the time due to either having to keep it up for hours on end drains him of his mana reserves or to conserve magic

For context, "that day" is when Elias was having a tantrum and held onto Chise tightly in his serpent like form. So yes it IS technically what you're thinking, but it's also more complicated than that.
