He has trouble understanding his feelings and even 'ran away from home' when Stella visited since he felt jealous. I think I finally get what Elias means. It confused me greatly why he would suddenly show this malicious, manipulative side when clearly he's very childlike and doesn't grasp what that means. Both he and Renfred were forced to be something; told it was the only option. Elias would always be the half-assed failure, and he would never be completely human. He was a monster. Everyone was scared of him. It sounds like Titania has tried many times to tell him that he was a Fae and that their realm was where he belonged. Chise proved all that wrong. This whole journey with Chise has been Elias choosing his own future - he wants to be human. He wants to understand. The elegant, well-kept house with a beautiful garden and warm fireplace. He lives in a village. Constantly reading, well dressed and giving himself a proper last name. Yet, despite all this effort, Elias Ainsworth would always be seen as Pilum Murialis. That wolf's skull was always on top of that gentleman's body, a constant reminder to everyone that this thing could never possibly, completely, be a human. Even Linden seemed to believe that, deep down. Aside from the woman who gave him a name, Chise was the first person to view him as an individual - someone who may not necessarily be like humans, but has a good heart; something not all humans have. He broke her chains the moment she showed up at his door. She's been to London, had a shopping day, and even left for Iceland and wandered into the fairy forest. I don't even think it's crossed his mind that she could leave. By going to the college, Chise would be coerced into picking a mage's future. I think he knows she would be with him regardless of whether she went to the college or not, and would probably buckle to whatever choice she made anyway. He wants her to pick her own future. He's signalling to Renfred here that they've picked their own future, together, despite what everyone has said to him - and Chise too - up until now. He was willing to let her get away in the laboratory when fighting Cartaphilius; he was willing to accept defeat - to never see her again - if she was happy. It was Renfred that reassured him to follow, because I think he too realised what Elias meant here. Ultimately, he values her happiness over anything else, even if he may not realise it yet; seemingly what Chise has been doing for him up until now. It's a beautiful story, and I love this series to pieces.

Isn't it said in the manga that the college is basically just a facility where the old generation is using the Young generations, becuase of their talents for experimentation, but it's under a disguise as a college to help educate the new generation into magic, you could understand why Elias wouldn't want Chise to go there, becuase she'd most likely be asked for experiments as a Sleigh Beggy. Though that's understandable, and platinum blonde lady Elias is pretty handsome, I think he's getting a bit too cocky for my liking 😂

Considering Elias isn’t afraid to speak the truth in a blunt way, there’s no doubt he has his reasons beyond his immaturity for keeping Chise away from the college. He did well here, Chise has helped him a lot and Vice versa, it is normal in any level or maturity to feel a claim on someone, it happens in relationships. His words were blunt and too the point, given that he’s not in his true form but a mask that looks innocent, as if he had to remind them of who he really is.

The whole point of the story is that Chise and Elias are both emotionally stunted beings who learn to grow with each other. The first time I watched this show, I viewed it because I thought it would be similar to Beauty and the Beast. I shipped Elias and Chise and I watched the show for the purpose of seeing the ship have more cannon content. That’s probably why I was so confused about what the message of each episode was. I haven’t rewatched the series since it ended, and I honestly don’t really plan to. It was good, the art and animation was beautiful, but looking at these clips makes me realize how wrong I was to ship these characters. Their relationship is completely toxic and it makes me uncomfortable every time I see it. I’m just realizing how naive I was (literally only a year ago) and how hypocritical I was being, because if anyone should be able to point out a toxic relationship, it should be me. Instead, I was caught up in the glamour of it all, falling in love with the characters love, that honestly wasn’t there to begin with. I had only been watching anime off and on for about a year before then, not really getting into it, and I just thought, “oh, it’s anime, yeah the concept is weird and creepy but it’s okay because it’s anime” My thought process couldn’t have been more wrong. So, ya, terrifying show, Elias is awful, but I did love him at one point, and I regret watching these clips every time I watch one. The show though, I’m sure touched some people, and I’m glad to have seen it and learned from my own personal mistakes.

Galaxy Girl Yes the relationship has always been uneven and unhealthy since the beginning, the author purposefully established it as such. She never meant for anyone to believe that this was the perfect relationship. Elias is not human. A creature who cannot fully understand human emotions and social cues, and he has the emotional understanding of a toddler. The point of story is Chise and Elias are both emotionally stunted beings, Chise being depressed and Elias being more Fae than human. They both learn and grow together. Chise has had a lot of development in the story, now it is Elias’s turn. Since he is only just now learning to grasp human emotions, he deeply cares for Chise but at this point he does not know how to process it in a healthy way. This is a creature who has never understood sadness or loneliness before, so an emotion as powerful as love can be daunting. But through being with Chise, Elias will learn about how to be an emotionally healthy being. He has already learnt his lesson that he cannot push his will onto Chise without considering her feelings, so he is learning. He is regretful of his past actions and fully understands why Chise was hurt. I personally view this story as a coming of age story for a 100+ year old magic creature. So it is sad for me when you say you regret the time you spent watching this show and investing in Elias’s character, because it is a beautiful story and a wonderful manga. I’m not asking you to like Elias, I’m just asking you to see things from his viewpoint. He is not human so it is hard to judge him based on normal human morality.

This is shown repeatedly throughout the series, but it is also shown that Elias learns from Chise just as much as she learns from him, at the very least he tries to. Speaking of Chise, this is a girl who, because of what she was born as, could never live a normal life. Her father left her and her mother alone, then her mother spiraled down further and further into a dark madness that led her eventually to trying to kill Chise, but failing to do so she killed herself, and Chise has had to live with this the rest of her life up until and during her time with Elias, until she eventually learns to let go of that past. Mistakes have been made of course by both Elias and Chise, but that's part of growing and developing, is learning from those mistakes and striving not to make them again. As @MsAbixxx put quite nicely, they are both emotionally stunted beings, but Elias begins to learn how to feel and process those feelings while Chise learns to, and eventually does heal. They are not perfect, they are not meant to be perfect, quite the opposite infact. They are meant to be broken characters that work and struggle and fight and argue and forgive together so that they might once again become whole. Chise will never truly forget her past, but neither will she keep allowing it to weigh down her heart, and she'll keep moving forward, allowing herself to live her life and be happy. Elias will never truly be human, but neither will he always be a monster, he is learning the concept of emotions, which before Chise was almost completely foreign to him, and he is learning to deal with said emotions in a healthy manner. I probably sound like I'm rambling, but I do hope this helps make the story clearer and / or helps that you don't regret watching the story, at least not so much.

Galaxy Girl while it’s obviously not a healthy relationship except for one moment it’s not as bad as your making it out to be. Both of them makes mistakes in it but they learn from it and are making progress.

Elias says these things all the time, but it takes on a whole new meaning now that he has facial expressions. I've hated Elias since like episode 2, but this adds another level to it. Go to hell, Elias.

Izzy Fizz You’ve got to give Elias a little leeway here. He is a magical creature who doesn’t fully understand human emotions and relationships. He kind of has the emotional maturity of a toddler despite living for hundreds of years. I see this as a coming of age story for a 100+ year old magical guy. The point of the story is Elias learning to be more human in thinking and understanding others. At this point in the story he deeply cares about Chise and doesn’t quite know how to process it. Nor does he understand that you can have a various array of relationships with different people. Because he is not human and these things are confusing to him. I’m not asking you to like him, I’m just asking you to understand what he is and what his thought process is a lot more. You cannot really judge him by human standards because he is not human.

@@MsAbixxx Couldn't have said it better myself. This is what makes Elias so interesting as a character. He's very mature and intelligent in many ways, but when it comes to emotions (especially his feelings for someone), he's like a kid. He clearly cares about Chise, but this makes him a little greedy and overprotective. We've seen in the last episode that he's beginning to give her more freedom because he's understanding what it means to really care for someone.

FoxsDumbSeriesMaker Yes, as I’ve always said the entire story is about Elias and Chise becoming more emotionally stable. Since they are both rather emotionally damaged or stunted, the author purposefully made their relationship uneven and a little unhealthy. People are so rash and quick to judge that they don’t try to acknowledge that this was actually something the author planned from the beginning and that these are flaws the characters will have to learn to overcome in order to have a healthy relationship. Elias does want to understand human emotion, but to a creature like him all these different feelings must be daunting, especially powerful ones like love and negative ones like jealousy. Elias is a very interesting mix of fae logic and human emotions. A character like him is bound to create conflict in the story. The story is about him learning to process these new feelings of his in a healthy way, and he has learned his lesson that he cannot push his will onto Chise and acknowledges that if he truly loves her he has to accept her decisions. The story shows how he has improved but everyone just loves to write him off instantly.
