Bugger ! I hope you have a spare belt handy ☹️. When working on a Station in Central Australia, snapped chains were a fairly regular occurrence. Always had some fence wire handy and with a bit of effort, could join the links with that - never lasted more than a kilometre or two but eventually got us back to the Homestead. Even carried some of the Bosses wife’s old stockings in all the Station Vehicles and could make a temporary fan belt with those - but an “Eve” main drive belt repair ??? Hope you got that fixed easily, looking forward to the “sequel” - safe travels 😄👍🇦🇺

On cars (before serpentine belts), an old emergency fix for a bad fan belt (v groove pully) would be to use a nylon stocking or pantyhose. Tie it tight and don’t rev it high. Don’t think that would work here. 😊

Yeah, belts... I remember riding on the E19, ring Antwerp a couple of years ago, well actually twenty years ago, when I heard this high-pitched sound. I thought this can't be me, it must be the bus in the lane next to me, my bike doesn't make these kinds of sounds. But unfortunately, it was me. An exhaust nut from the rear cylinder was jammed between the top of the belt and the gearbox. Not the fault of the belt of course, but totally the fault of a failing exhaust flange assembly.
