It was pure genius having Ted Bessell doing that voiceover in the opening scene. Hysterical!

Marlo and Ted remained lifelong friends after the show ended. I read she was the one who told him he must see his doctor after he shared in a telephone call he wasn't feeling well.

When I first moved to nyc, we lived in these fabulous lofts with views of Wall Street, the Statue of Liberty and the Verrazano Bridge in Staten Island. I sided the Ferry to commute to my job in Greenwich Village- I also lived in various parts of nyc. Aw, those were the days! Miss them so much! 🩷🙏🏻🐾🎃🇺🇸💯🍸

Let this series show milennials and the likes what "high value" men and women in high value relationships look like. They weren't talking about it, they were living it. Ahh the simpler days

While on the Staten Island ferry Ann does not have her purse with her as she runs down the steps to the first deck. At the railing in the next scene Ann's purse suddenly appears on her shoulder.

Don really loves Ann. You can see it clearly in this episode. He truly wants what is best for her. She was a lucky girl. I feel like Ann took Don for granted sometimes. Growing up, Donald Hollinger was the boyfriend all of us pre-teen girls wanted.

I really like Ted Bessell and in those years he was a very good looking guy. He is more the humorous and friendly guy, not the strong hunk. Sure, this series was watched by women a lot. Both are playing a very nice couple.

Donald, really. A suit to the zoo? Relax a little. The writing staff must have been on vacation as this didn't involve much writing of any kind!

You obviously aren't very old. Back then, no one would have dared go to a theatrical production (esp. on Broadway!) or dared to travel by motor coach, train or plane without dressing, at the very least, in business casual (which, for men, was wearing a sports coat and tie rather than a suit). Women NEVER wore slacks if they were going out of the house. Things were different back in the '60s--ask your grandmother about it.

In Europe in those days you would often need a tie to be allowed into a restaurant. Pants for women were sometimes viewed as inappropriate clothing and no matter how expensive the dress was, you would not be assigned a table. Today people are dressed sometimes as childs, freaks or with clothing for the sleeping room on the streets. My parents were not that conservative, but they were dressed modern and elegant. Also ladies hairstyles were very fancy. Today, some women are looking like crossdresser or ignoring their hair condition completely. But, television was an ideal dreamworld, that is for sure!

FYI for those born later...when we dated in the 70's and even early to mid 80's, a guy dressed up in a suit and tie to take out a girl. Only if they were respectable and decent. It was only late 80's that guys started to wear jeans. Of course, different rules for teenagers, but this was the case for anyone in university or past that.

Well not that its important, i always thought donald over did it with the honey's. so i decided to count. i count 26 honeys and half the show they weren't speaking. i thought maybe 20 but i was wrong. That is so silly. so it probably would be 52 honeys if they spoke the whole episode. i wonder why they feel, he had to call her that so many times as she never says it back.

When I watch old shows like this in NYC, I always look for the twin towers . This show was before construction was completed.
@preppysocks209

Even before it was started. Lower Manhattan here looks as it did in the 1930s, with nearly all buildings with masonry rather than glass corners. Prominent here are the Cities Service and 40 Wall St buildings, the latter which Donald Trump owns. The downtown skyline changed dramatically just a few years later, and then again after 9/11. Today you would not choose the Empire State Building observatory, as looking west your view would be blocked by Hudson Yards. And the world's worst run company, the Pennsylvania Railroad, is still operating here, just before it merged with the NY Central to form Penn Central, which would soon be the biggest bankruptcy in US history. It's prior to passage of the Clean Water Act and indoor (cigar!) smoking bans. And one of the places they eat it Toot Shors, notwithstanding Yogi Berra's famous comment that no one goes there anymore, it's too crowded.
