@@rezithegreat seeing their reply to another comment, they wanted to be a normal teifling, it was the DM that started with all the supernatural shit, they were just trying to make the best of a weird situation. (I.e "Oh, I can't have items, equipment, gold or anything? Can I at least change my shadow to look like branches?") To me it seemed more like the DM got into the character creation and decided from the beginning they wanted that character, eventually finding a way to claim it as an NPC (after already using it as an NPC apparently, with the secret fight).
@Lord_Poyo
@Lord_Poyo 4 жыл бұрын
@@Hyperactiveinsanity No no no. You clearly didn't listen at the beginning fully. The OP at first says the DM explained that the way he interpreted the character was the shadow demon, but the very next couple of sentences says it was a "mutual choice" and that the OP "knows I suggested it but he might have been thinking it too". Also, the way the OP described their "ignorant conviction" makes no sense. It explains nothing about why they can't die, nor why they are an absolute idiot in conversation by not listening to explanations. They say they only listen based on logic and the scientifc method, and that they are supposed to be smart and dextrous, but what part of ignoring conversation to the point of looking for a box-spinning-horse-thing is SMART or part od a SCIENTIFIC METHOD? OP didn't even know there own character.
@Hyperactiveinsanity
@Hyperactiveinsanity 4 жыл бұрын
@@Lord_Poyo no, I did listen, but I also read the comment from the OP that stated what I said. (if you look through the comments on this video you may be able to find it yourself) I'm not saying they aren't to blame, nor am I saying it was good character creation, nothing I said implies I agree with the character. But what you've also just said (they didn't know their own character) may show some inclination to them not originally wanting to play such a creature. Everybody does the "haha wouldn't it be cool if..." scenario when creating something new, most DMs wouldn't of been so enthusiastic and agreeable for such an idea, let alone implement it and give it ridiculous abilities (the large stat increase that OP had to nerf themselves). Don't forget as well, this is a homebrew world so it's possible that things like "ignorant conviction" and it's alternatives were from the DM. Unfortunately it is poorly written so we can't be sure. (please note the line "this is where I learnt I can't die", the player did not create this) Plus, my point was the DM was into the character and wanted it for themselves. You seemed to of missed the main point.

I'm gonna be honest, I can barely figure out what bad DM actually did because OP's writing is so incoherent, off topic and conflated that it's like wading through thick mud trying to get to actual point of what they're saying. What I mostly gathered from it is that OP is a pretentious ThatGuy edge lord who reminds me why I'm so cautious in allowing 3rd party stuff into my games.
@ProbsNotABot
@ProbsNotABot 3 жыл бұрын
What? I'm confused. OP didn't put in any 3rd party stuff, it was a class specifically made by the DM. The DM did PvP (using the OP's character) without OP's awareness, would use OP's warlocks to sexually abuse another player, would kill off players if they missed 2 sessions, and made it so OP had to do whatever the DM wanted or his character would be killed, not even allowing him to roll for anything.

I'm late to this, but I think this story is much different to the exposed Paladin story; sure, OP sounds like he had murderhobo tendencies, but we have to bear in mind the nature of the campaign and the kind of character that the DM specifically okayed; If OP were genuinely the problem player in this scenario, then half the party wouldn't have left the campaign shortly after, and OP likely wouldn't have even been invited to a new campaign the way he did. I can get the cynicism, and sure, I'm likely being overly optimistic, but we can't rule out that OP- who openly claimed to be riddled with all these disabilities, physical, mental and neurological- may very well have just written his story poorly.

@@MabaseDrifter Yeah, I wanted to just be a normal tiefling. The DM decided that any supernatural being could warlock (changeling, demon, angel, anything else). My character was incorporeal, so they could not have money, items, equipment, or anything else. So I asked if I could have things that changed how my shadow looked under very specific (and they never came up except maybe once) circumstances. The DM wanted every soul to increase one of my character stats a full point. I wanted to play a long game, so instead of +1 stat per level of each warlock, it would be +.1 so ten times the work has to be used to get the same benefit. A warlock has like 2 cantrips and one 1st level spell. But if the warlock is level one when they die, my character got one of their cantrips or their 1st level spell. Only one level worth of abilities. When I finished off that druid ghost necromancer, I asked if I could have them become part of my character's shadow, appearing like a top hat. But instead they were absorbed and all their spells added to my sheet.

OP intentionally misconstrues information that the DM is clearly directing him towards using the demons ignorance as an excuse. OP intentionally ignores another player having a bad time and doesnt help them because of their warped sense of heroism [most likely justifying it after the fact].

Okay, I was all for the story up until OP excused not helping someone experiencing sexual assault, not because his character wouldn't but because it is heroic not to help them... I'm sorry, it's one to let someone sort out there personal issues on their own, or telling a kid to figure out a school work problem for themselves. But to suggest that the best course of action in a situation involving sexual misconduct is to... let them figure it out? Yeah no.

I agree with that if we're talking actual sexual assault, but I thought he was just talking about the dm sexually harassing the player through putting sexual assault in the campaign. Don't get me wrong, i don't totally agree with that sentiment in that scenario either, but to an extent I understand not wanting to be a guy, or anyone, who feels the need to insert themself into an interpersonal conflict where their help hasn't been asked for, because then you run the risk of treating the people your trying to protect like they're helpless or weak. Then again, in this situation, saying "hey, I feel uncomfortable with what's going on," wouldn't be the worst thing to do.

I think he meant he kept himself from white knighting and let the player tell the DM to calm the fuck down. Not treating her as if she was to inmature to deal with someone making her uncomfortable, but still keeping and eye out in case she didn't feel confident enough to say that it was not ok and needed to see she was not the only one who thought it wasn't normal behaviour. The guy did a lot of other stuff that at the very least flag him as a problem player. The story probably isn't even real. But not treating the female player as if she was made out of glass and was unable to speak for herself without even knowing her is not something I'd say is reprimandable. It's not a life or death situation. It doesn't require instant action.

You do realize there ARE tribes that ARE that disconnected from modernity and are considered primitive by modern standards right? They do exist in Africa. And they aren't even just in Africa. There are Cargo Cults on isolated Islands that worship cargo planes because they brought supplies during World War 2. Seriously, look up Cargo Cults on KZbin. These people look at modernity from a mystical point of view because they don't understand how it works. They just mimicked the actions and hoped planes would bring them supplies. They even crafted air control equipment from sticks and wood and performed dances that resembled Air Traffickers flagging planes that their ancestors watches from afar. The fact they had ACTUAL magic and they acted like this isn't surprising when, in a cultural context, there are tribes that DO sacrificial rituals. However, even then it's usually the sick, weak, and already dying who are offed in these particular tribes due to their own set of standards. Oh... And to this day, children in Africa are still Sacrificed in Uganda due to Witchdoctors. Nothing to do with tribals but it is relevant due to cultures. Ritualistic Sacrifices are still well and alive in Africa. Oh this doesn't excuse the horrendous story telling. I'm just calling out anyone who believes tribals wouldn't sacrifice their children when they see ACTUAL magic before their very eyes when some tribes believe planes are magic sky birds that deliver mana from on high and the only way to bring them back is to mimic the actions of the outlander tribes who brought these mystical sky beasts with them. It's not a "Big Yikes", you're both acting like ignorant first worlders reacting to an edgy imagining of the real world. An actual tribe would have some speculation before turning to their elders for advice since they usually have a say in the matter. But if they start bowing down in unison, they bow usually out of fear. They aren't collective idiots, just ignorant. They'll usually turn to mimicry before turning to blood sacrifice since that is normally a last resort. But if a patron outright speaks up in their language what to do for power, they may be gullible save for the elders and this could lead to civil discourse depending on the tribal inter politics. I'm not an expert, but every group of people does have their kinks. They may have detractors and some may not. It really depends from tribe to tribe. They aren't one collective unit. They're all unique in their own way. So it's hard to generalize EVERY tribe's culture and politics. However I do suggest the Cargo Cultists documentary, it really is interesting and gives you an idea on how these tribes work when outside influences intrude on their lives.

At best, the Hebrews would’ve taken from Ancient Egyptian Religion (such as resurrection and afterlife) and Atenism, a monotheistic Egyptian religion. Israel wasn’t really even in contact with Persia until around the Exile, and even then it was mainly after Persia took over the Babylonian Empire. Either way, Yahwism- the worship of the God of Israel Yahweh- was around long before Zoroastrianism. If anything, Zoroastrianism was reverse-influenced. Besides, in the Bible it is shown that the Israelites were VERY susceptible to other religions they saw before the Exile. They would’ve either gone for all of Zoroastrianism or not at all, and in the Bible they clearly go back to rebuild their own temple and practice their own religion and faith.

@@MattJDave That's because Yahwism originally started out as a mixture of the Canaanite and Assyrian religions. The earlier parts of the Bible even suggests that multiple gods may exist before slowly accepting that Yahweh is the only one worthy of worship and them the only one to exist at all. Some lines suggested that Baal Hammon and Asherah were initially worshipped in the Jerusalem Temple. It should also be noted that Carthage's religion was also recorded and upheld by Rome and the Romans had some interesting dealings with Zoroastrianism. Religion is a pretty interesting topic when nobody is screeching "plagiarism" or "you are all idiots who believe in a sky daddy".

I really didn't like this story. It came off as incredibly self indulgent, not unlike the recent Ross stories. By the end I found myself more irritated with OP than the subject of the story. Basically the only bad thing this guy did came at the very end of the story. Other than that it was just the OP gushing over how cool his character was. A character that was only "so cool" because the GM seemed to have bended to every demand of the OP. This whole video would have been less than 5 minutes long if the OP had just kept it to relevant details. Purely speculation here, but I suspect the only reason the GM even did what he did at the end is because he realized OP's character had gotten way out of hand and decided he needed to get rid of him. Obviously if that was the case just talking to the player about it would have been the better option but he made a bad call and I can empathize with the necessity. He had accidentally allowed a player to create an over powered character that was immune to all physical damage, could create spell wielding minions, and sounds like a bit of a disruptive dick.

I think I'm on the same page as most people here where I get the feeling that the guy telling the story was probably way more a part of the problem than he lets on. He just gives off serious "that guy" vibes in the telling of the story. In fact, you know what it reminded me of? CritCrab's other video about the guy who showed up with a pre-made character sheet of his completely overpowered character armed with a bunch of over powered home-brew gear and proceeded to be a dick to everyone. Eventually in that story the GM just decided he had had enough and had 1000 radiant damage fall from the sky to smite the dude. I think most fans of this channel will agree that that was generally a good move on the GM's part and this kind of feels like that story but from the dick player's perspective. Obviously I don't know that and never could know that but I have two reasons for suspecting it. Firstly, this guy spent most of this story gushing over how cool and interesting and unique his character was, which is a pretty classic "that guy" characteristic. Problem players tend to be either completely indifferent to their characters and become chaotic murder hobos or completely obsessed with them and get so self absorbed they forget they're playing a cooperative game; this guy comes off as being in the second category. The second reason I'm doubtful of this guy is that a GM randomly deciding to force one of the players to instantly die for literally no reason seems weird even by the standards of these horror stories. Which makes me think that this player is either a) intentionally leaving out relevant details that would make the GM's decision seem less random, or b) There were legitimate reasons for the GM to want to remove him but he's too self absorbed to have even realized it. Again, referencing that video where the GM decided to smite that guy, the guy in question probably wasn't thinking, "I'm going to do a bunch of dickish things today and get angry if anyone retaliates." That would require a level of humility and self-awareness people like him don't normally posses. I'm guessing that as far as the guy in that story is concerned the GM just randomly killed him like the guy in this story is claiming happened to him. I don't know, I just have an easier time believing that version of the story than the one that's being presented to us here.

It can cause some discrimination. Same reason he listed being autistic - there's nothing really inherently detrimental about being autistic, society just isn't currently geared to support autistic people.

I think he has a point, it's not helping anyone to save someone who has things under control. You just make a one-sided fight even more one-sided. Then again, he may have just told himself she could handle things because he was scared to act. Or he's trying to justify his inaction after the fact.
@Lord_Poyo
@Lord_Poyo 4 жыл бұрын
No, it's actually rather accurate. Tell me...how capable would you be if everyone did everything for you? How would you ever drive if people only ever drove for you, and you never tried yourself? How capable would you be at defending yourself if you never had to protect yourself? Being taught or shown something does not mean you become good at that thing. It's the difference between intelligence and wisdom. One means possessing knowledge, while the other is knowing how to use said knowledge. Maybe you aren't being a hero when you let others handle themselves at first to let them have a chance to grow, but you are being a hero when they have had that chance and you save someone when they need to be saved. Being a hero is NOT stepping in at every moment. Has nobody ever told you "I can handle this myself"? What you are describing is a "helicopter hero".
@ElConradoX
@ElConradoX 4 жыл бұрын
@@Lord_Poyo You are describing personal responsibility, not heroism. Heroism implies helping when help IS NEEDED to one's personal sacrifice or risk. If you don't risk anything, and passively observe something happen and get resolved WITHOUT your involvement, YOU ARE NOT BEING A HERO. This person's definition of 'heroism makes everyone watching the news a "hero". It is one thing to say you will step in only when needed, it is another to glorify yourself for it and call that being "heroic". And if the situation DIRECTLY INVOLVES YOU but you let someone else handle it and don't even acknowledge your responsibility in the moment, guess what? You are actually being a coward. It doesn't matter if the other person "has it covered", no one will ever reject the words "I got your back!"
@Lord_Poyo
@Lord_Poyo 4 жыл бұрын
@@ElConradoX That is why I clarified in my second paragraph and said basically exactly what you just said. You're only a hero if you help when the help is needed. I wouldn't say sacrifice is a requirement, since you are still saving someone, though the amount of sacrifice does change how much of a hero you are. Also, being "directly involved" in something is very specific. You are not directly involved in something just because you are in the vicinity, witness something happen, or are even participating in an event when said incident occurs. You are only directly involved when you are either the culprit or the victim. Your counter-example of "that logic makes everyone watching the news makes them a hero" doesn't work here because the people watching the news do not have the chance to intervene. Also, yes. People some people WILL reject help, no matter how many times they fail. Some people are simply that independent. If you just keep butting into people's affairs in an attempt to save them, you give them no chance to prove themself to not only others but more importantly THEMSELVES. You also rob them of the chance to grow. So in a way you are both right. Though you may not be a hero for letting others handle their own matters initially, you are if you intervene when they need it.
