This was the FIRST of our two ORIGINAL Sisterlocks Videos, created in 1993-94. It laid the foundation for the Hair Care REVOLUTION that we knew was coming! We were right too, and we're very proud of the role Sisterlocks played in launching that revolution!

Thanks for sharing this video with us, Africans. I will be getting Sisterlocks soon. I had it in 5 years ago and regrettably 😢took it out. I hopefully won't repeat that decision again.

I am also blown away by the rich and meaningful motivation behind the invention. I somehow feel as though her vision is being lost in the counting of locks and showing off of the grid. Granted, those are what distinguishes Sisterlocks but look at how much she's emphasizing coming back home to ourselves , growing in self-love and self-acceptance as a black person. A lot of what I have seen on KZbin seems to be losing this essence as women are now using this system to class and bash one another. I find it very very sad. This woman sounds so compassionate when addressing our hair history, shouldn't we be doing the same in our community?

Such a beautiful comment. I'm about to start my sisterloc journey and I decided to do more research. I've watched countless videos about them, but I never understood the spiritual connection she envisioned.

I am Senegalese and ironically, many Senegalese women are choosing to install sisterlocs instead of relaxing their hair or using extensions.

I absolutely love this video! It’s from the early 90s, but all of her points are still relevant today regarding African-American hair. This is an about having to get Sisterlocks, it’s about embracing your natural hair and beauty, minus the stereotypes and stigmas of our hair. And that applied whether you choose locs, braids, fros, twists or your natural curl pattern, it’s about not feeling compelled to alter the chemical makeup of our hair! Embrace the natural you!

Beautifully said. Very insightful, dignified and unapologetic. Thank.you Dr.Cromwell! l appreciate being talk to and not down to. No guilt tripping. Instead your excellent understanding of our hair issues as it relates to the historical context, classism issuses, feminine requirements and privileges, personal esteem challenges against a political backdrop and racial hierarchy is phenomenal! By the way your hair looks gorgeous. So do the other ladies. Now l know God loves me and my crown 👑

Dear Dr. Cornwell,I want to let you know that you have revolutionized natural hair care, and I am so grateful to you for creating Sisterlocks. The first time I saw someone with Sisterlocks, I was in the school atrium (Wayne County Community College Downtown). Being from the "D" I know you are familiar with the school. I stared this young lady's hair for the longest and finally I asked her was her hair in dreadlocks, and she told me that it was Sisterlocks. You have given us a beautiful way to wear and appreciate our beautiful natural, and I am extremely proud.I have seen the other two videos you made, but I have never seen this one. Again, thank you Dr. Cornwell.
