That one Batman game everyone forgets - Batman Arkham Origins

The assassins sent to kill Bats, the winter setting, and of course, Sonic playing the Dark Knight is all good stuff! So overall, I like the vibe AO is going for, despite the fact it's a carbon copy of the previous games. Does it do anything new gameplay wise later on? Do any other bosses get jobbed out like Electrocutioner? That's gotta be a top ten moments in super hero games, right there.

The overall story is probably the most cinematic Batman story in any non-film media (hell, it beats some of the films). It's a bit by the numbers, but it makes up for it with style and character. This game's version of Bane in particular is one of the best ever, and the bosses in general are great. That being said, the gadgets and quite a bit of the map are just copy-pasted from Arkham City and the side missions leave a lot to be desired. Still, the combat and stealth are just as good as Arkham City and the stealth is better than Arkham Knight, and in terms of pure atmosphere and style this might be my favourite game in the whole series.

Arkham Origins has a few new things, like CSI deep dives, intense boss fights, and some incorporated tech from enemies. Other then that, it recycles A LOT, but with slight changes. But that's not the big reason the game was dispised, at launch, it suffered from MASSIVE bugs, even most got fixed, that save state one you encountered can still be there, and will leave you in a dark snowy abyss, so you have to be careful at times, or else you could start all over.

It does slight gameplay things with combat and martial artists mooks but is overall the same which is a bummer. There's a particular moment where you get glue gadgets and you're like "this is just the freeze gadgets from city" Some bosses get jobbed out, a lot of winks and nudges towards future games and as soon as Joker shows up (as is mandatory) the story actually kinda picks up as well. There are little memorable scenes/setpieces in it. DLC is meh, Sidequests aren't as great as previous RS games, multiplayer is irrelevant. But with the winter setting and not being a terrible arkham game, it's still good to play around the holidays. Why WB sandbags this I dunno but for an origin game I would say it's a 7/10

I thought the whole idea of black mask hiring 8 assassins to take out Batman on Christmas Eve was a cool idea. My biggest issues: 1. The assassin plot gets sidelined pretty quick. One's a joke, one's an optional side quest who's not even really hunting you for a bounty, and Killer Croc counts as one for some reason. The rest were excuses to add certain gameplay sections. 2. Deathstroke got hyped up but was wasted in a one-off fight early in the game; and teased a Suicide Squad game that never happened, in a post-credits scene. (It's kind of funny how the Deathstroke scene after Justice League's credits led to nothing too, lol) 3. They pull a bait-and-switch and just make Joker the main villain again. I know Black Mask isn't anyone's favorite, but it would've been something different. 4. It takes place over "one night" again. Even nixing the Riddler stuff, that's bull. I swear, if they ever made Long Halloween (which takes place over the course of a year) into a game they would say it all happened in one night. 5. Takes place just five years before Asylum, because God forbid Batman be old. Apparently he just spent a couple years with each Robin (and apparently getting over the second one quick). 6. Dumb excuse to not have people on the city. Even, with an enforced curfew, people will be out in the streets on Christmas Eve in a bustling city. Aside from all that, it's alright. You can go the Batcave, and you have to take on corrupt police in the part of the plot that's taken from Year One; that, and the same Arkham gameplay, make it pretty fun.

I just recently went back to beating Arkham Knight with 100% of the riddler trophies and the boss fights were garbage. Origins definitely had some cool fights. Killer Croc, Deathstroke, and Copperhead were all pretty cool.

I recently started playing this again. No bugs so far, but I'm wary. Props to this game for making solid gameplay improvements from City: - Better boss fights (The Deathstroke fight. Oh, the Deathstroke fight! 😁) - Crime scene investigations (Love when someone remembers Batman is a *detective* ) - More side missions (more villains!) - More enemy variations (big thugs and martial artists being my favourites) - Smoother combat flow (somehow) - Explorable Batcave with in-game combat challenge access instead of the main menu. - Bigger map with lots of nooks and crannies, complemented by a good fast-travel system. The only stuff I don't care for is the grimmer, more grounded tone in the writing and some of the character design. Even though I think the story is okay, it feels like it's trying a little too hard to be like *The Dark Knight* or *Year One* in places. That and the fact that (seriously he was in all the advertising so it shouldn't come as a surprise, but I shan't be a spoiler) *a certain someone* shows up, takes over and kills the mood for me. Granted, I get that he's meant to be the 'herald' of the age of Gotham supervillains, but it would have been cooler if it was just a side mission. Alluding to things to come and such. There's also a slightly meaner edge to the whole thing, even for the rest of the Arkham games that's a bit hard to stomach. I'm also not too fond of the "everyone's just starting out" aesthetic that takes out the fun, fantastical vibe of the villains which ties to what's disappointing in the character design. Like, the Batsuit, in particular, is way too cluttered and chunky. Matt's "tonka toy gauntlets" are an apt description. The environment design is probably the best it's ever been though. Love just exploring the city. I could spend yonks just appreciating inside Lacey Towers alone. I noticed that there's the "done in one night" dealio that people have complained about. Would have been nice to spread it out. Feels a bit more believable and would a good way to mark story chapters. Maybe have the conclusion be set at Christmas Eve rather than the start? Eh, it's just me.

Only reason I bag on this game is because during that Electrocutioner boss fight I beat everyone and the game flat out broke and it wouldn't start interrogation, I'd just be standing in there, it was almost a month before I think it was fixed and then I think a similar thing happened in a Bane boss fight sequence.

Origins is a decent game, had it gotten a bit more time in the oven I think it would have been just as well received as the Rocksteady games. But it's still worth the playthrough as it does do some really cool things. I admit I like it more than most though because I'm a HUGE sucker for winter themed levels or games. Bonus points if it also takes place near Christmas. I just really love winter, it's my favorite time of year.

Shocker definitely came first! Shocker's first appearance was Amazing Spider-Man #46, in March 1967. Electrocutioner's first appearance was Batman #331 in January 1981 If you want another "shocking" villain to compare, Electro first appeared in the electrifying Amazing Spider-Man #9 in February 1964.

I enjoyed this game a lot, except when it comes to how unlocking gadgets works and how you can get locked out of certain upgrades if you're not paying proper attention to the challenges. There are also some minor bugs that can interrupt one of your challenge paths, one of which is a pain in the ass to circumvent once it's happened. Beyond that, though, I played through all of the story content (except DLC), and found it to be about as enjoyable as Asylum/City.

You can play with the Knightfall suit, but only on the PS3 version with a free dlc, or I also saw there is a way to tweak with the PC files in order to acess the Knightfall costume as well as the Knightfall combat campaing. As for this game, the games made by Rocksteady are better overall, but this games have the best boss battles of the whole serie. Arkham city have some really good boss battles as well like Freeze or Ra's Al Gul, but the pretty much all bosses in this games are goid compared to only some bosses in the other games. The Deathstroke fight is the best in the serie in my opinion and it is followed up by Ra's and Freeze fight in Arkham city. You should really give this game a chance, it's really well made and the Cold Cold Geart dlc is really nice as well.

Criticized for re-using a plot point, but praised for doing it well. Or to put it another way, criticized for its plot but praised for its writing.

@@vandad13 Yeah the GCPD has alot of references like electrocutioner's gauntlets etc. What I mean is, I think this game was supposed to be at the start of Batman's career and take place 5ish years before Asylum, which is not too long before City and knight. Which is a very short amount of time to train batgirl, 3 robins, Dick Grayson to grow up leave and become nightwing, Jason to die and come back, Babs to get paralysed. And all the other changes, it's way too short a time to fit all of that in.

Origins sucks donkey balls. I've played through it twice, hated it both times. I've played through Arkham Asylum probably 10 times, Arkham City at least 20 times and Arkham Knight between 60-70 times since it's release. I played through AK at least 50 times last year alone from June - Oct. AK is BY FAR my favorite Arkham game, despite it's lack of real boss battles.

Arkham Origins is the best story hands down. There are only two negative things surrounding this. i. It was buggy and had some extreme game breaking bugs that they refused to fix until the DLC came out. Luckily some players fixed the bug and released it on the internet. ii. It didn't really introduce any new game mechanics other than the detective stuff. Arkham Asylum had a horrible story and extremely horrible dialogue. They messed up Bane and made him a brainless oaf, but Origins fixed him. Even Joker wasn't true to his character. And it got easier through out the game instead of getting harder, flooding the zones with one hit mobs. Asylum is very over rated, but it was amazing at the time so people really can't get past the nostalgia.

The game is gorgeous to look at, it has the best boss fights in the entire series, but it has a lot of problems. The launch was really buggy (I ran into a couple bugs that made the game actually unwinable), the stealth aspects are weak compared to Arkham City's, the twist is frustrating and disappointing partially because of the game's marketing, and that whole "we are just gonna make more dlc instead of fixing bugs" debacle.
