I wish I had played this growing up! (nobody I knew owned it) because it's pretty fun! Needs more polish and punchier sound effects, and maybe SOME type of story? But beyond that, good stuff!

NAPS are Italians (I think Sicilians more specifically), not French. “Zio Mimmo” was particularly fun because in Italian is something like “Uncle Dominic” and among us Italians it gives some kind of old-funny-uncles-you-see-drinking-and-make-dirty-jokes-at-Sunday’s-lunch vibes.

Actually there are a lot more than 6 playable characters. I played this game to death with my dad, my siblings and a couple friends. It took forever but you can unlock all of the bosses to play as and they arent just palette swaps. Each one had totally different move sets. Sure looking back it looks janky as hell but at the time it was amazing XD

Matt, you've gotta press the shoulder buttons together to use the explosive supers that deal massive damage at the cost of a little bit of the life bar. These supers mop the floor with large groups of enemies and bosses. Also depending on which characters you start playing the arcade mode with, the levels are different and so are the bosses. Love this game! ✌️

I thought the character rendering style in the FMV was kind of neat. I like how it makes them pop against the backgrounds. That said, the character animations themselves were... decidedly wanting. Very floaty, everyone running like they really need to take a dump, it's not a great look. Also, in regards to the question "Has anyone ever gotten timed out on a beat 'em up?", I recently did playing through Streets of Rage 1 just before getting to Mr. X. Then again, I'm also not great at beat 'em ups.

Not sure if I love this game because I had fun with it 20 years ago, or only because there were so few brawlers on the system (the soundtrack was pretty good at least). On the other hand, Gekido Advance was fun! IIRC, it's also been ported to newer systems.
@ONShypnos4 жыл бұрын
There weren't many brawlers in that era but Gekido was one of the stronger 3d ones. The PSX actually had a few cult beat em ups - Gekido, Crisis Beat, Stuntmaster, Panzer Bandit, Tai Fu, Gear Fighter Dendoh, Hokuto no Ken, even a re-release of Captain Commando. Nothing that'd become definitive the way Final Fight and Streets of Rage were but a good smattering of second tier titles.

as a comics guy in the late 90's/Early aughts, I've come to view Joe Mad as one of the reasons why the business became as hostile to the talent as it has, along with the image 7: waiting in a primadonna artist to deliver on a deadline was enough to piss off editors so badly that they took steps to ensure that artists couldn't gain the clout that they had in the 90's after the speculator bust in the early aughts. that said, the GBA port is nuts: huge sprite, great animation, but the story and presentation are half- finished and there are exploration and semi metroidvania elements that are VERY clumsily implimented.
