I love how for most of the video it's basically, "This guy used to give me a lot of trouble, so I might los- Never mind, he's dead." Seriously, you kicked the snot out them. Except for Pai Mei / Master Roshi at the end there.

I'm shocked this game hasn't been rom-hacked into oblivion yet. I can't imagine the scripting or AI is all that complicated compared to other games - its just one giant enemy one screen. Its a perfect platform for showcasing good character design - even Smash is dominated more by the action and the level itself. Most of the time in Punch-Out is spent watching a giant sprite of a cool looking character and waiting for it to do something. A Super Punch-Out Maker would basically be Deviant Art: The Game, and that is both fascinating and horrifying to think about. (Edit - The more I think about this, the more I want. Just a simple photo head swap alone would be amazing meme material.)

You can't dodge most of Quarlow's attacks, you have to block. For example, block high when he lifts his cane up. Trust me he's very doable once you get used to blocking and countering. Imo Hoy was the toughest fight to learn as a kid because of how different he is.
@JPH11384 жыл бұрын
I was surprised at first that he hadn't beaten him, then I thought it does kind of make sense given that he doesn't like to block. I feel like Quarlow is just about the only fighter you can't simply alternate between ducking dodging and blocking to avoid attacks, but you need to make the specific response to each attack. Then it's also the same for hitting him - you need to really watch his guard and tells to know when it's safe to punch him.

Bull charge is an uppercut (I guess a hopping uppercut in the earlier games vs a running uppercut in Punch-Out Wii). The Rapid Punches have their uses, sometimes opponents will leave their guard open and get extra hits after their stun is over, but some block immediately. If you doubt Super Macho Man's age, remember that Ric Flair always looked old even during the 80s (who SMM is based on). What in the world was that normal looking punch from Narcis Prince that took half of your health? I've never seen him do that much damage in a single hit before.

This video really brings me nostalgia, when i played it as a kid, i always got stuck on some of the boxers until i figured out how. First with Bear hugger , then Dragon chan and even Masked muscle. All boxers have some way to beat them and dodge their attacks, also, blocking is important on some boxers like Quarlow. i have to say, i really liked the Hajime no Ippo moments on the video.

The Bruiser Bros aren't that difficult in terms of attack patterns, but they can do big damage right away if you're not careful. Hoy Quarlow is probably the most technically challenging, with his tight defense and numerous attacks (most of which are with a stick). Not only that, he recovers from knockdowns very well in spite of being the smallest/oldest opponent in the game.
