This is why I'm such a Pete Thorn fan, just a great creator and his tone always spot on. I will own that guitar one day. Know your gear is huge for me. I've watched KZbin creators just get caught up in gear, not knowing how to use it or just focusing on gear where their guitar playing suffers.

Thornbucker Plus or original? I'm looking at these for my LP and love Suhr pickups.
@northof50now
@northof50now 6 жыл бұрын
Plus in the bridge, standard in the neck. The Plus is only slightly hotter. When Pete was talking about the output, things clicked into place. I had a Bassbreaker45 for a few weeks. I returned it because I couldn't get any clean tone from it unless my guitar was at 5 or lower. I had noticed that the LP [with the Thornbuckers] could hold a clean tone longer than my Tele which I though "odd" but never thought much more about it. The pickups are full, articulate, beautifully balanced. I would never consider them "low-output" as a general description. But, listening to Pete talk, it makes perfect sense. Overall, I couldn't be happier with them. I did what I call my "social media" upgrades. Pete Thorn humpbacks in my LP and Greg Koch pickups in my Tele. Couldn't be happier with both.
@intrsoul
@intrsoul 6 жыл бұрын
He mentions briefly "this is the slightly hotter version..." so the Plus. I liked hearing Pete's comment, "it took us a long time to get these right... to make sure the high notes weren't too bright," which is always a challenge for a thinner body mahogany guitar (like a PRS) where high notes can be shrill.
@northof50now
@northof50now 6 жыл бұрын
Pete's [and those I put in] are the TB+ in the bridge. To be honest, I don't know that there is truly that much audible difference. I believe it would simply drive the front end of your amp more-- but again, they still push the front end of my DRRI less than my Tele. I've come to judge all pickup sets by the bridge pickup. I believe that is the toughest to get right in a set [or as a single pickup for that matter]. The bridge is now my favorite position in my LP, which is a huge step from the Classic '57+ in originally. They were nice, but always needed a bit of the neck to fatten. The PT+ is outstanding on its own both split and full. Couldn't recommend them more highly.
