I don’t think no-till will work on heavy ground for the exact reasons you mentioned. On the prairie where the ground is a lot different and they need every bit of moisture from snowfall, it’s a whole different story

we run an 8235r on our farm, pre def but still has regen and I know whenever the regen icon comes on I know I've got 30 minutes before I can shut the tractor off, at least in our tractor, don't know if that's about normal or not for pre def tractors. We ran an 8295r last year on rental while our tractor was down and I noticed it took about 40 minutes to regen, but I always turn off regen as I'm shutting down so I don't have to worry about it starting up as I'm shutting down.
