Yes, Cass did develop a grudge. But Zhan Tiri told her to grab the Moonstone. She manipulated Cass to the point where she wasn't entirely herself at all. The Moonstone took Cass's anger and pain and manifested it. Only after her power was taken away would she apologize and realize what she has done.

I think this season 2 finale is a bigger cliff hanger than Star vs the forces of evil. All I can say without spoiling anything is that several things in several episodes frome seasons 1 and 2 that seemed like filler were actually very important.

Great reaction as always! Brace yourself for the next episode because you will *not* be emotionally ready for it! (none of us was, no one *can* be, but at least you didn’t have to go through the 6-month long hiatus! ) Next, huge symbolism on that opening song. And also great irony that *Cassandra herself* "initiates" the singing about "sticking together" when she already considers doing what she does at the end. Not spoiling anything specific, but **some** answers to the “why Cass did that?” question *are* coming. What I would like to just point out is that from what we’ve seen thus far it doesn’t make sense that she has planned the betrayal for a long time, though at the same time it’s not “out of the blue” either: A LOT of filler-ish episodes turn out to be *very important* simply BECAUSE they highlight the Cass-Raps "relationship". These include their competition in Challenge of the Brave in Season 1 (where Cass was so jealous to even lie to Raps and hide her weapon of choice - frying pan) or the other competition in the city of Varderos. But also, in contrast, episodes like Freebird, where Cassandra was so genuinely and utterly heartbroken when she thought Raps was stuck as a bird forever, or the one where Raps loses her memories. All these demonstrate that there is BOTH conflict/antagonism between them BUT ALSO true deep friendship and that Cassandra is obviously seriously conflicted and not gone "full-villain" mode or something (nor did she plan this from early on, not even since The Great Tree, but only much more recently). Finally, funny thing, how this turned out to be a series "theme": at the end of both the first *and* second season, one of Rapunzel's closest allies turns against her and becomes the “antagonist”. If Season 3 wasn't the very last one, I would start to look suspiciously at Lance, lol. [The following contains ZERO spoilers but just speculation, based ONLY on up to Season 2 episodes] We still haven’t “dealt with” the ancient evil warlock Zan Tiri, though he keeps being referenced, and there’s also the previous episode’s “hint” that Mother Gothel may have been his 3rd disciple. Either or both of them seem more “appropriate” (more epic, and more personal, respectively) to be the series final villain(s) than poor Cassandra or Varian.

Personally, I love the tongue-in-cheek way Eugene's twist backstory references another facet of why he's Rapunzel's soulmate. The one ancestrally and duty-tied to the moonstone ended up finding the one with the sun drop living inside her, and fell for her. Damanitus said the moonstone and sun drop are drawn to each other ;) Normally, I'd find a twist like that kind of cheap; that Eugene had to turn out to be a prince. But idk, it really works for me, this time! And hey, this fun "bonded pair" plot device adds a lot of fuel for Cassandra x Rapunzel shippers too, considering what we now know goes down in S3. S3 really gave them an Adora x Catra vibe lol.

This episode took a lot of different directions. Though when I was watching the episode, I knew right away from that saccharine song about friendship that Rapunzel, Eugene, and Cassandra were singing at the beginning that Cass was going to be a traitor.
