One reason why I love and appreciate this performance is that Beyoncé was able to use her showmanship and power in a way that Stevie could feel. She didn’t do the typical performance whistles and bells because she knew it ultimately wouldn’t do much because of his sight. So she got a really solid band, two great guests, and used her instrument to put on a show that moved him in a that he could feel in his bones. And that’s really what music is about. Forever one of my favorite performances of hers.

Fun fact that we found out from the Renaissance Film is that her ability to growl like that developed from a vocal injury she sustained as a kid when these producers kept making her repeat a specific strenuous vocal. She thought her career was over, but she ended up using it to her advantage and its now a technique that she's known for.

Even though I didn't follow her career closely and am not a big fan, in my opinion she reached the peak of a proficient combination as an excellent dancer, great vocalist, enormous stage presence and energy on stage during her artistic peak, she is far above what I have seen in relation to other artists, especially female ones, in the last 24 years. She was the last of the line of performing artists with great stature like MJ, Janet, Tina Turner and Madonna that I have seen in the last decades.
