Im defense of the sleek hairstyles that is very representative of urban black/Hispanic culture so to me that looks perfect. I grew up with all the black/Hispanic girls wearing sleek hairstyles and cute earrings and lip gloss that was the look and it still is. Other than that love the video ❤

And it wasn't just an accepted part of the universe (like on later Disney Channel shows where they go crazy with the layering); people actually pointed out how weird the shit she was wearing sometimes. It's v similar to the running gag in the Nanny where Fran wore a lot of extravagant clothing, and the explanation was that she had a cousin work worked in fashion. Fun stuff. Actually, speaking of the Nanny, I always wondered if that was them poking fun at costume designers with expensive tastes. Like, these characters are supposedly working class, but they're wearing luxury/high end brands?! Where does that make sense?!

I will say for the slickback hair style for black women we typically gravitate towards that style at a younger age as it’s one of the 1st and easiest style we learn! I feel ( in my experience) as we get older we stray aways from the easy accessible style (sleek ponytails, pigtails ) as we have more resources ( money , styles, options, expression changes ) and knowledge to do more with our hair which is also shown in her mother having hair she would frequently have to pay anywhere near $200-$500 around the time and same with Raven in the later seasons actually progressing to braids! A common milestone for girls in the community!!! All love! Literally love everything you do! And def see how from a style aspect sleek pony’s def seems mature and professional but i think with the added context the hairstyles frequent reappearance makes slightly more sense 😋😋💋 !! I think it’s important to remember in addition to the fact she’s as aspiring designer, the show is supposed to be set in San Francisco, even showing her house right off haight st. This street has a lot of hippie counter culture history, not to mention a million shops with those jackets at the time!!! San Francisco and the bay in general has more eccentric fashion than other places. I think with the ability to see everything online, it’s changed the way style looks “local”. Being a teen where this show takes during the time it took place was so much fun the fashion was crazy

I did had one problem with Raven's outfits, and it's the fact they started to dress her to adult in the later season (seanson maybe, idk), like she was still a tenager in high school, wearing stiletos to class. Yeah I think on TV anyways there was a big trend of having high school girls who were fashionable wear ridiculous heels like they did it all the time with Gossip Girl and Pretty Little Liars. And all the mean girls in shows and movies always wore heels and dressed a bit old for their age. It's definitely weird but I think also just a TV trope thing to make it clear she's the "fashionable" high school girl.

I remember seeing an interview she did on the BTS of her music video backflip, where she said a lot of her clothes had to be made customer for her because she was curvier, Note that they had to get creative because Raven was an African American teen and a lot of her look was translated from streetwear. They wanted to play up that Raven was an aspiring fashion designer in the show and she was supposed to try to look mature, we saw Raven have entertaining and eye catching ensembles as we noticed her figure change season to season, (cheetah girls fashion is also AMAZING)

an aside on the low slicked back ponies, i get your point given that she is a young character. but that is representation on point, my hair isn’t as as curly as hers and i did that all throughout HS. lot of women of color that don’t have straight hair are taught these types of things since they’re young (along with chemical treatments and religious hair straightening). so i did like her hair haha sorry for the rant love your videos ❤

Omg this comment section is making me feel weirdly old and I'm not even 26! I wanted to point out that the jacket at [3:48] is actually from the first Cheetah Girls movie. And that the iconic Raven promo look was also turned into a Barbie doll which if you pay attention to Barbie at all means she was like one of the few black Barbie dolls available back then (as they put zero effort to create and keep black Barbies in stock) and there was a coordinated online game for it on the Barbie website which I played a ton of course! I need to change my avi but I'm a 20-something-year-old who loves this channel! And That's So Raven is really special and perfect for this channel even though I know you work really hard to give us great deep dives, but Raven's main thing was fashion and becoming a fashion designer. This show is very much the reason I love fashion and embraced Bratz the way I did too. As far as your channel goes if you ever feel like it, this is definitely a good deep dive show to watch. Another thing which wasn't mentioned here but is funny and unique to Raven was she wore a lot of disguises, super silly and fun. You could do a whole part 2 just rating Raven's different disguise outfits my girl was always dressing with intention. Anyway sending love and butterflies to anyone who reads this very long comment

Season 2 for me has the best fashion and hairstyles. She rocked some loose braids, curls and straight hair with that brown tone that was so beautiful. One of my favorite look is a pink tracksuit she wears at the end of the episode there goes the bride. Aside from the green dress and the look with the blue boots, that season rocked. I wish they had her wear the promo look with the orange and the teal in an episode. Also loved the video and the way you speak ^^

@@LisaFevral aww poor baby, we went thru something similar, after our grandparents left, our maltipoo got used to walking less, and less, that when we decided to go back on our normal long route, he started going up on 2 paws and lean on our leg, now normally before our grandparents arrived and left, he only did this if he was tired, so we were at first ok with picking him up, but then he started doing that after only like 5 or 10 minutes!? And he's a miniature,~11kg or 25 lbs, so at one point we just didn't pick him up and when he stood up again, we motivated him but because we didn't pick him up, he got down, and then continued walking, so maybe if you do something similar too, maybe your dog will walk a little

I think a big issue with her outfits is her shape and size and stylists knowing what to do with her. Then you add how kid shows don't want to show body parts and raven has a large top half, they were trying to hide it by throwing layers on her. Putting her in deep cut shorts then putting a cami under that wouldn't be worn outside of the "Disney World"

I like to believe that the Raven outfits that you're talking about, the ones where you say there not age appropriate because Raven is a teenager and yet she sometimes looks like a woman in her thirties. Are mostly for the theme of the episode, I'm not trying to disrespect you, but I just think like if the theme of the episode fits she's could wear it. At 16:23 you said that this outfit is for a school secretary and in a sense that's kind of what Raven was supposed to be I think in that episode. She was supposed to be some sort of helper for the kids if I'm not mistaken. And I think the show just wanted to go for that kind of theme for Raven's outfit. 🤔

As a black woman I think you saying she looks mature for a 16 year old doesn’t really take into the consideration or fact that many black girls did in fact wore their hair like that. The early 2000s was letting go of the b.a.p.s hairstyles and updos and went for less and minimalistic approach to black hairstyles such a ponytail and low buns. It was for high schoolers and girls who were on the go. Raven did braids on days where it was just the outfit needed focus and not her hair.she wore ponytails when the outfit was clean.
