I checked out this episode initially because I like watching how different people react to the Nightsong choice (and that cutscene is one of the best IMO). I ended up watching the whole thing, and I loved how you showed how you can have a good (non-romantic) relationship with Astarion without being a jerk. You just need to show compassion and use emotional intelligence (which you definitely have). I've read lots of people saying how the only way to get his approval is to be evil or a jerk, and it's not true - the companion characters are so much more well written then that. I also liked seeing the progressed romance with Lae'zel - I love the character development, its's so sweet! I was torn between Lae'zel and Astarion for my romance on my first playthrough, and I chose Astarion, so I think I'll keep checking in with your episodes to see what I've missed. 😊

I've heard the same discourse around astarion and laezel, it definitely feels like some people aren't digging deeper with these characters. I have very high approval w astarion and exceptional on laezel yet have had a very good aligned playthrough Love to see another person who appreciates these characters, especially laezel but I'm quite biased with her lol

One of the most awesome parts of the game. (Spoiler for those who haven't watched/played this far in yet) The emotional roller coaster going from "I don't think I can stop this from going badly" to "hell yeah, that's my girl" to "we're marching to war led by a badass angel warrior" was so satisfying.

You're one of the only people I have seen play this game that allowed her to make her choice. I did the same thing and I had the same reaction as you. It was jaw dropping when she chose for HERSELF, not you convincing her to. I understand there are times when a friend should step in, but she directly told you to let her handle it and you respected that, it is such a rewarding feeling when you say nothing and see that lol.
@camiart_casual11 ай бұрын
I romanced Gale so seeing the friend version of that scene under the stars was really cute and wholesome. I wish more scenes were like that, where you get maybe a taste of what being close to that character is like but you don't have to turn them down at the end. Wyll's dance comes to mind 😅 As for Shadowheart DAMN that scene always makes me tear up. I tried convincing her the first time around (the DC for that roll is like 30) but had to redo that whole fight because of a glitch. The second time I led it ride out of curiosity fully intending to reload the save again and wow... if seeing her choose good for herself without convincing didn't make me cry all over again. Phenomenal playthrough as always! Oh, and here's your d&d fun fact: The Shadowfell is a plane of existence that's very close to the Prime Material Plane. It's meant to be a dark, twisted reflection of our world, full of darkness, undeath, corruption, and twisting paths. Conversely there's the Fey Wild, also meant as a reflection of reality but instead teeming with untamed life and joyous trickery. That's probably why pixies, which come from the Fey Wild, were used to dispel the Shadowfell's curse on the land. They kind of cancel each other out, restoring the area around it to normality!
@CuriouslyKay11 ай бұрын
Gale is surprisingly the only companion I haven't had to turn down romantically, so that scene felt like being there for a friend that is struggling with their mental health. He's definitely one of my favorite parts of the game Thats really interesting, seeing a pixie for the first time was a bit confusing as we hadn't seen any before that so it's cool to know why they specifically were being used
@HPFireYT10 ай бұрын
@@CuriouslyKaythat’s pretty funny, since a lot of people complained that Gale wouldn’t stop trying to romance them and they had to patch in a few changes for his camp scenes so it wouldn’t be “Yes, romance” or “fuck off Gale”. Because he was very easy to get approval from I accidentally romanced him on my first character lol but he’s such an amazing character I didn’t mind.

I was honestly really nervous about that scene with Gale in my playthrough. I thought he was going to try and woo my character and then I would have to hard reject him and feel bad about it. 😅But my dialogue options ended up creating this beautifully intimate and platonic moment between two friends and Gale just gently and softly asked them to stay with him. It's still one of my favorite cutscenes in the game because of that.

maybe a strange comment, and i apologise if this is a little tmi lmao, but it's really, REALLY nice to see a playthrough that's so compassionate to gale; a lot of playthroughs i come across find him annoying and are quite hostile to him as a result. i see quite a lot of myself in him and his story (enough that i was compared to him by my friends the second i started the game, lol) and so it means quite a lot to me, emotionally, to find people who are willing to just be there for him in moments that have so much personal weight behind them. thank you for that :]

I wonder if it depends on your decisions and approval with her until that point. most likely yes as I know Larian. so if you were good to her and people in general she will decide like this on her own and persuading her is unnecessary. In case you don't know, Aasimar are the children of gods, usually half-angels. This is from the Forgotten Realms wiki-"Aasimar were human-based planetouched, native outsiders that had in their blood some good, otherworldly characteristics. They were often, but not always, descended from celestials and other creatures of pure good alignment, but while predisposed to good alignments, aasimar were by no means always good. Aasimar bore the mark of their celestial touch through many different physical features that often varied from individual to individual. Most commonly, aasimar were very similar to humans, like tieflings and other planetouched. Nearly all aasimar were uncommonly beautiful and still, and they were often significantly taller than humans as well. While several aasimar were immediately identifiable as such, others were even less distinguishable than tieflings from their human ancestors, commonly standing out with only one unusual feature. Most aasimar had pupil-less pale white, gray, or golden eyes and silver hair, but those descended from planetars could also have emerald skin, while those descended from avoral celestials might have feathers mixed in with their hair. Those descended from ghaeles often had pearly opalescent eyes. Solar-descended aasimars often had brilliant topaz eyes instead or silvery or golden skin and those with couatl or lillend lineage most commonly had small, iridescent scales. Many aasimar also had a light covering of feathers on their shoulders, where an angel's wings might sprout. As in tieflings, aasimar bloodlines could sometimes run dormant for generations, reemerging after being hidden for some time."

Bro, you're such a lawful-good player, which is fine. That's what you're doing, but their are benefits to doing fucked up shit in this game, like more powers, so you might want to consider loosening your moral standards, because vamp Astarion could probably do some cool shit if you let him complete the ritual. And even tho it's supper dark and you'll probably lose other characters like Will for doing it I'm pretty sure a full-blood vamp rouge is OP af.
@CuriouslyKay11 ай бұрын
Astarion's writing so far suggests his theme is the 'cycle of abuse', and if that's the case then fulfilling a ritual in Cazador's place is probably him becoming just like him I'll probably check out gameplay of him on a min/max playthrough though, because you're probably right that he becomes way stronger
@bohansenboh11 ай бұрын
@@CuriouslyKay No doubt, shit's supper dark. You'll probably have to multi-class in order to spec him out. I don't think 20 levels of rouge are going to be as beneficial as one might think. Anywho, i enjoyed your stream. Thanks.
@Iam_Stu11 ай бұрын
I'm really enjoying seeing a proper good playthrough for a change and not "I'm playing good but will take all the power I can get regardless of the moral choice". None of the power gains from evil choices are needed to get through the game, and neither is multi-classing. The game isn't balanced around min-maxed builds at all. My first run was a good one and I didn't use any of the permanent buff stuff. (Max level is 12 btw, 20 levels of rogue would be amazing :P)
@bohansenboh11 ай бұрын
@@Iam_Stu Yeah I had my DnD hat on when I said level 20. I understand wanting to see a good play through. I think there are a lot of people that do a good play through tho. And their are a lot of people that do a bad play through, but very few people chose to let Astarion go through with the ritual, without doing a straight up evil play through, and I think that choice, although it might turn off some viewers, because it's reprehensible, would be more interesting for Kay to do. I'd just want to see how people react when a lawful-good player does something evil on a video game. I think they'd freak out. Which they shouldn't, because it's a video game. But I think it's an interesting social experiment, so I suggested it. It's kind of fucked up to suggest that a streamer does something that most people would consider morally reprehensible, because she'd have to deal with any fallout that might come from that decision, but what's life without conflict? And I'd bet the majority of people do a good play through first time around.
@Iam_Stu11 ай бұрын
I think it’s best to see the player make their own choices when the options are presented to them. Suggesting how she should resolve a quest that hasn’t even come up yet is pretty spoilery especially when you’re talking about ‘how fucked up and dark’ the choice is. I would be happy to see someone make that choice on their own rather than because someone told them to do it. I don’t think it would be particularly satisfying to see Kay do it when she’s obviously very sensitive to, and observant of, the companions underlying emotional states, it would feel like a real 180 out of nowhere.
