One of Marshall's drum students was Mitch Mitchell, who became Hendrix's drummer. That's how Hendrix discovered Marshall amps, Mitch told him about them and they went to pay former teacher Marshall a visit to look into them.

The band cream sure put the Marshall amps to use !
@the_guitar_trooper Жыл бұрын
Yeah! They used them in all of their concerts as far as I know. And Hendrix used them, after trying a few other amps. Jim said that Hendrix was the best brand ambassador that Marshall had! It’s estimated that Jimi owned somewhere around 100 of the stacks.

Great story of Jim Marshall! I always wanted a full or half stack, but at my age, it’s not so much the price but the weight that determines my amps of choice. Thanks for sharing.
@the_guitar_trooper Жыл бұрын
Hi Larry! The first time I ever saw one was at a gig that I went to at the age of 16. The sheer majesty of the stack was enough to sell the idea to me! I never owned one either, and that’s probably a good thing, because my hearing would undoubtedly be worse now if it had happened. LOL

Wow ... plot twist much?! Took me ages to twig who it was that you were talking about. Thank you so much for highlighting one of the two major forces in British instrument amplification. Although I'm more of a Vox man myself, I'm a sucker for a lovely Fender Princeton. Again, sir, great video. :)
@the_guitar_trooper Жыл бұрын
I’d take any of them - Vox, AC 30, a Marshall Plexi, or Fender Princeton! And thank you from the bottom of my heart for the view! If you haven’t yet considered it, please do consider subscribing, and even becoming a Trooper Fellow member !

@@the_guitar_trooper I subbed on the first video. :) I have a Princeton 65DSP needing new PSU diodes for the bridge rectifier. I bought a Line 6 that has vague 'feels' of amplifiers ... but the most recent one I got was a Harley Benton HB20-R ... it has tube emulation in it. I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from it. What I learned: never judge an amplifier by its price tag.
@the_guitar_trooper Жыл бұрын
@@DavidAndrewsPEC Welcome aboard, David! Harley Benton is an enigma for me. I haven’t ever laid a hand on any of their products, but I hear good things about the guitars all the time, and sometimes even without the obligatory tag line “for the price”. I have a Boss Katana that has taught me that I can waste an obscene amount of time screwing around with tonal mod software! Fender Princeton is hard to beat though.
@DavidAndrewsPEC Жыл бұрын
@@the_guitar_trooper Thank you. :) Yeh ... HB is weird, indeed ... David Knopfler was sent a very nice Tele replica by them. He was expecting to be slagging it off but ... he was very happy with it. Same with me and this HB20-R ... very nice amplifier. Princeton ... yes, very hard to beat. I still want to fix that PSU in mine.

@@the_guitar_trooper Yes, it is tricky. It's the height of fame for one's name to become part of the English language as in: the Marshall stack.
