I’ve worked it out!!! The show was going to be called, “Something borrowed, something Clue” but the rights were pulled so they had to quickly amend the episode. This explains why bits of the show look like Clue parodies. It was probably because the board game rights were withheld, even if the film rights were secured. What do you think!?! I feel like a sleuth in my own right for working this out, but thanks PushingUpRoses for the Clue(s) - and for making these great reviews.

In Hungarian, it's 'Gyilkos sorok', which roughly translates to 'Killer lines' (or killing/murderous lines). I always wondered whether she has something to do with those murders herself. In this translation it sort of sounds like she is killing with the lines she writes in her books (with some kind of magical link between her writing and reality).

5:49 Every single time someone is stabbed in the back on film it's always dead centre, through the spinal chord. No one seems to consider for a moment how unlikely and how extraordinarily difficult that would be. And it it's a knife, the blade is always vertical, making the feat even more inconceivable. At least if the blade was horizontal, you could wedge it in between vertebrae. Am I the only one who thinks of these things?

To me "Murder she Wrote" will be the LAST "old-fashioned style" Universal Television show that kept it's style through the course of the show, for being shot AND edited entirely on Film and did NOT sacrifice it's look for budget reasons to be shot on film but edited on video, like so many other shows in the late 80s and during the 90s. That Show always looked like a mid 80s TV production with a late 70s /early 80s style and yet it ran like that even through the 90s. It never felt like a decade did pass by. Always seemless and with a great ensemble of actors. I still have nothing but respect love and admiration for this show and everyone who were involved in the making of it. Angela Lansbury really was in the tradition of Miss Marple :) Also… i think the German title of the show "Mord ist ihr Hobby" (Murder is her Hobby) was a lot more appropriate and fitting.

I have to say I thoroughly enjoyed that episode. I thought it was hilarious - and one of the reasons it was so funny was the way Jessica reacted to all the wacky characters around her particularly the amorous advances of the creepy cousin. As a playwright myself I was so impressed with the characters and with the dialogue that I wrote a complimentary e-mail to the writer of the episode, Philip Gerson and he did reply to me. Years ago The Virginian did a similar wacky comic episode entitled 'Crime Wave At Buffalo Springs', a total departure from the usual format and I thoroughly enjoyed it, too.

Hi Erica 👋 I hope my comment didn't sound as a form of privacy invasion your comment tells of a wonderful woman with a beautiful heart which led me to comment I don't normally write in the comment section but I think you deserve this complement. If you don’t mind can we be friends? Thanks God bless you….🌹

The german name of the show is "Mord ist ihr Hobby" meaning murder is her hobby. As a kid I always thought thats odd because it makes it sounds like she is the killer

I always liked Columbo better - He badgers and bores criminals nearly to death to catch them 😁

Yeah, Columbo’s “super power” was just knowing how to push people’s buttons.

I wasn’t old enough to understand Colombo, but I was old enough for him to still be my hero.

But he also tends to put himself in mortal danger at their hands before getting to that point :) One of the oldest episodes, he goes out on a boat with the suspect, who drove it really fast and terrified Columbo, and I can't remember if they went to international waters, but that was where my mind went with it.

Angela Lansbury kicked ass in this role, but it was originally written with Jean Stapleton in mind, and Stapleton would have NAILED IT!

Came for the Murder, She Wrote hot takes. Stayed for the King’s Quest III reference. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go cool off my hot blood.

I love this show. I used to watch it after school! She's so badass, I looked up to her as a positive role model for young women.

Watched this when it first came out, but wanted to add a comment for the algo to help it get over a mil. Also I'm gonna take the opportunity to beg for a Bedknobs and Broomsticks video. Angela as a witch in training by correspondence course during WWII is just lovely.
