I have high functioning depression and I force myself to do my work and stuff, to get shit done, but it requires an enormous effort and sucks all the energy out of me. It doesn't take my mind off of anything because it's just going through the motions, also it increases the chances of having a panic attack in public instead of at home which just puts more pressure and anxiety on me. Depression is different for everyone, that' why blanket statements can't be applied universally, especially statements like what she said. I usually just feel empty, and doing tasks just doesn't help me with that at all.
