Remember in the first episode they mentioned that normally you can't cut people's heads in one slash because of the muscles spine etc so they need multiple chances which makes the person suffer before they die, an executioner like sagiri can cut people with one stroke making her a professional meaning she makes the person suffer way less, as for her father which is a tier above her can literally cut them to the point where they don't even know it because he does with precision calmness no fear and no emotion at all. The beautiful thing about this small revelation she got this episode was that she always had a problem with killing people and she found that to be a weakness and an unnecessary feeling to have, which made her beheading not as clean as her father's but gabimaru cleared that, clarifying that killing is NOT Okey and it's normal to have these feelings but the difference between sagiri and gabimaru is that he has the resolve and he accepts what he's doing and he does it anyway carrying with him the burden.

Other people explained it but I'll chime in anyway. You generally cannot cut a persons head clean off with one slice, the Asaemon can because they are elite and trained to do so. The way they execute makes the person suffer less because it's over in an instant. That's the "beauty" in the profession. The point of those scenes or what they are trying to allude too, is that she doesnt know how to deal with that doubt/hesitation and it causes her victims more pain in her executions (the imagery of the dead grabbing all over her). It's not something to agree or disagree with really. It's her trade and a significant part of her character.

I like the way how Sagiri and Gabimaru pretty much becomes a mental support for each other, indirectly.

If there's hesitation or doubt, the hand won't be steady. The stroke of the blade won't be clean and the person will feel the pain of the cut. What they were getting at is that she has to rid herself of doubt so she can cut with a steady hand, making a stroke so clean that the criminal can die a painless death. Just like her dad was able to cut so cleanly that the rakugoka never felt the blade. Sure, they'll be afraid, but they'll feel no pain. It's like when you get an injection, you might be afraid to get one but, when the time comes, you might not even feel it depending on how good the doctor is.

I mean, there are quite a few instances when killing is the only right thing that you can do. Cornered by a wild animal. Cornered by a psychotic killer. Cornered by just about any person who threatens you and your loved ones with a chance that their survival will constitute a continuous threat to them. Killing is sometimes right. Nations execute prisoners all the time. Soldiers kill in defense of others. Police is legally *required* to kill an active threat to the life of civilians under some circumstances. Hell, euthanasia is a thing. There is a lot of needless sensibility regarding killing but it's a natural part of human social interaction. I am not saying it's a good thing or pretty, but it's as natural as anger, envy, hatred or fear. We are biochemically hardwired to experience them under the right stimuli. Similarly humans are biochemically hardwired to respond with certain degree of escalating lethality to certain stimuli. Hysterical strength can accidentally kill, and it would be right because you were defending yourself. What do you think?

The art of Sagiri naked and vulnerable being clawed at by the apparitions of those she's killed whom she believes she's failed is such beautiful imagery to me. It's like it's tainting the pure nature of her soul, and she can't escape it.

This is the Edo period, don't be upset with how Eizen is talking with Sagiri who is clearly struggling. We can't judge their mindset with ours so easily.

What the executioner feels in this case translates into their execution of the technique. If she is afraid, then unconsciously her execution of the technique will be affected as well.

I’m ready liking this show Gabimaru is dope he’s so calm and collected a real killer who regrets his actions but sees it as no choice it was the cards he was deal and he’s living with the weight of it.I think the reason they’ll kill you if your executioner dies is cause only one of them is coming back out at least that’s what they think cause say someone finds the elixir everyone’s gonna fight for it cause they all want the pardon also starting to think the elixir is like a fountain of youth sort of thing like these people drank from it and are in a eternal paradise cause that flower dude was alive and smiling even the guy on the boat was smiling

Well in those days , nobody really had the choice other than the nobles and the so called Shogun or king . Not the men , not the women , nor the children . They just had to follow orders .

Feeling an emotion and feeling a physical sensation like pain are not the same, let's not pretend like they are. That is how you get people spouting non sense like "words are violence" and other such rhetoric.

Well, it's not like he knows that. As you see she seems to be the only one with this kind of problem. In his eyes her only difference from everyone else is that she's a woman. So logically speaking it's not hard to understand why he would think that it's the reason. We as viewers know that it can't be something like this, but we're not from edo period either
