Good info dude. I have the similar grip that I bought for the a6000 last year and it actually works with the a6300 but like you were showing it doesn't fit it perfectly and there is some flex. Oh well. It's so cheap and I guess it does the job lol.

Overheating Update 2: I went ahead and did an endurance run. I recorded in 4k24p. I was able to record continuously for a little over 2 hours and 20 minutes before the batteries died. This is using the time hack and a small usb fan to cool the system. I'm trying to illustrate the possible duration using the grip.
@that1cameraguy
@that1cameraguy 8 жыл бұрын
I was just using a usb fan. I didn't have it setup or anything for proper use. I'm trying to build a rig with the cage that incorporates a fan though.

Why do you expect the battery grip to help the overheating issue and review it like it was meant to address it. For one, that grip is made of plastic which means very poor conductor of heat.

Hey Man! I absolutely love your videos, definitely the most thorough and complete Sony-specifc channel on YT. Now that is been over 9 months since you have been testing the Meike on the a6300, would you recommend it? I am unsure as I've heard a lot of bad criticism and I want to solve my camera's overheating... Thanks in advance!
@that1cameraguy
@that1cameraguy 7 жыл бұрын
It won't solve overheating. When I use it, I try to make sure I support my lenses properly so it doesn't bend at the flex point. If you plan to use the grip heavily, like professionally, it's not going to last in my opinion. If you use it from time to time, it'll be good.

Very good review I actually just bought it and put it on my camera today it's not bad the rubber feels pretty good but overall it feels kind of plastic he stored on the cheap side but it does make balanced the camera out a lot better but the black color doesn't match that of the Sony a 6400 it's a little off I guess because it's not actually a Sony product and why Sony didn't make a battery grip is beyond me can't figure that one out I'm going to keep it for now but I'm a try there are a couple other brands out there I may order those and try those and see which one out of the three is the best. Bummer is every time you want to take your video card out your memory card you have to unscrew the grip. Yes there is quite a bit of flex I may try double-sided tape or I may try a little bit of Velcro I don't like the flexing

I got a 30 min recording for the first time with my Sony a6000, using the Smallrig cage during a fireworks display. Late night, 70 F and the screen in the open position.The Smallrig cage will prevent your hands from making contact with the body of the camera, keeping the heat of your body away when it is not sitting on a tripod. I'll be doing more tests soon to see if I can duplicate the 30 minutes mark in sunlight and warmer weather. You can see the setup on my Instagram link. instagram.com/vikingdescendent/

Thanks for this review! i wondered if you had any advice for an issue I'm having with the grip. I have it on my a6000 and it likes to start firing the shutter all the time. As soon as the camera is turned on. I seem to be able to fix the issue just by taking out the batteries and putting them back in. Or removing the shutter release cable and putting it back in. But it's a bit annoying. Any advice would be appreciated.

What is you opinion on the Fuji XT2? I've seen the review of the preproduction unit from tcstv. seems to be amazing for what it is.. price point still higher, but without the a6300 issues and more native aps-c lenses it seems to be a great deal. what do you think?
@that1cameraguy
@that1cameraguy 8 жыл бұрын
I think it's awesome. It shows that manufacturers are listening to the consumer and we're going to benefit in the end. I think lens selection is a factor for me. If there were better adaptors, I'd be interested. If Fuji sends me a unit, I'd be happy to review it though.

very cool! thanks for the video! so I have the neewer a6000 battery grip that I use on my a6300. the problem is, when I use my sigma 18-35 on the glidecam with it, it's too much weight and the grip flexes and it adds shake or wobble to videos. Which kind of ruins the point of the glidecam. is there anyway on this new grip that the connection would be better or if there was a way you could make the connection stronger? it would be so helpful if you could test it.

Nice review. I have a question, I am thinking about getting this Grip in Order to extend the battery life for Shooting timelapse. Therefore I searched for experiences attached to a tripod. You mentioned this grip might bend while using a bigger lens. May I ask you to try this one on a tripod. Lenses which I will use will be the 16-70 Zeiss, different Sigma lenses 19mm, 30mm, 60mm and maybe my tamron 1750 and Sigma 10-20 with the LE EA 4. Thanks in advance

It'll flex a little. The lenses you mention don't see overly front heavy. Use overtime it may have issues. I've had a longer 70-300 on a monopod with the battery grip. It held up, but their was some flex.

Thanks for the info; the grip I have for the a6300 has the same separation issue from the body. do you think the $300 sony grip (or even the one you have pictured from the a7s) would fit on the a6300? At 3:50 - The connector is inserted 180 degrees for what it should have been designed for. They should have used a right-90 degrees connector instead of a left-90 degree which, we can see in the video. Silly design. Other than that, I'm getting the grip for my long days in the desert (no video and no vertical shooting). Thank you for the video.

I noticed that when I put 2 batteries that are full, then after one was depleted, the next battery will just be 60 to 70%. so I'd think there is some kind of battery drain issue. do you also notice this too?

Yeah, I do notice that. I think that the batteries are being used, is just that it doesn't read it right. So those 30% that go missing was probably used but not accurately shown. That's just a guess.

I enjoy your videos but if I could make one little suggestion it would be to watch the amount of times you're saying actual/actually. I know it's the most common crutch word and you probably have no idea you're saying it so much (Starting at 1:21 to 2:53 you use actual or actually 18 times. ) I'm not bashing, it's just a tip to help you improve your videos.

Thanks for the feedback. I actually write a script out. Unfortunately since I stopped using a prompter, I just use it as a bullet point to get my points across. I'll try to keep in mind. Thanks.

I saw your two vids posted today and don't remember even hearing one actual/actually, though I did think it was funny you used "actually" in your response above! LOL

I kept noticing myself saying this word a lot trying to make videos and it's a word I ACTUALLY never use in real life lol so no I just slap myself to stop using it so much hehe

Haaa... I feel you dude. I HATE picking on people, but in the name of BANTER, actually, he does say "actual" a LOT. But hey, that's what makes us all unique. I say "man" a lot (child of the 70s) but hey man, it's all groovy. Much

Most important fail! The battery unit die very quickly if left not used - very annoying!

Hi I wanted to say great info and review! I purchased the A6000 grip it's for my A6300 the latest 1 and it works very good for $38 US Ebay seller and the only thing is also what you pointed out was with a big lens the grip does separate from under the grip and that's where the power is connected as I use my A6300 w/EA-LA3 & Tamron 150-600 and added a low cost those Canon E-1 wrist straps and you find the knockoffs for $2.00 each and work very good and if you make it a tight fit and with your hand it does prevent the grip from pulling away from the bottom of grip side and help stopping the power disconnecting from the grip. I am quite happy with the setup for under $40 US, I plan to cut the included cable and add a bit of wire so I can use the vertical grip mode. Note: I like the power changer over better than the A6000 grip as I am thinking it uses both battery's at the same time and it does increase the batter life. Again you did a great job on the points of the newer grip! Christopher
