I Don’t Drink would be an interesting reveal. As addicts we are quite familiar to who we really are. The doubt is how much as addicts we are going to take ownership of. Tom’s music is raw and real. The bars drip of the misery his life of addiction was. Madchilds pain of losing the only living thing he trusted, Lola his pitt. And finally being delivered to fight another day for our sobriety.

Castles, I Wish, Cancer, Angels, are all good ones with a positive message, if you haven't already heard them. I'm trying to think of the cleanest ones for you, I'm sure there are more, just can't think of them off the top of my head.

Beautifully done. The people at your church are a very lucky bunch. You can hear your love for Christ in every word. There is nothing more convincing than watching someone who really walks with Christ in their heart speak about Him. Too many people pay lip service.

Tom has said he's not religious, but he walks with Christians. I don't know if has ever actually said he is a Christian, but I know that he does respect Christians. Like your reactions so far. #HOG

He's also said the exact opposite (Several lines in different songs, such as one example for you off the top of my head, "Yeah, the Lord is my Savior, but shit revenge is so tempting I don't expect to see Heaven, if that's the case I respect it.") Tom plays both sides of the field with most topics, to let more voices being heard. As a result, it's difficult to decipher what he actually believes, etc. Which I think is the way he wants it, so people can't just mindlessly judge him on such things but instead have to approach his message, rather than him as a person (when it comes to his music.)
@marcatkinson41493 жыл бұрын
@@MikeSakaru If you go watch the Officer Tatum interview he just did, he explains his religious views. As I said he respects Christians. But he is not one. He believes there is SOME kind of higher power, but doesn't really know what it is.

@@marcatkinson4149 I suspect that it was a business decision, but many people go back and forth like pro ping pong. God is a hard concept to grasp and try to understand, and that's all we can do is try. When you're caught in song, your true thoughts take over you. It's a feeling akin to drinking which is probably why Tom enjoys it so munch.
@ronly_driver3 жыл бұрын
@@MikeSakaru the bar "I don't expect to see Heaven, if that's the case, I respect it." Has always hit me hard because I have a similar opinion in my own life. I do love Christ, I do my best to live as I should, but I also have a feeling that I have difficulty letting go of that I shouldn't ask more of God than I've already been given because I'm so grateful for the life I have, so if my sins are heinous enough that I earned a trip to Hell, then so be it. I'm grateful that I've been given all the blessings I have, if those blessings are all I get, then I am beyond happy with it.

Good evening, reverand. Just wanted to give you fair warning as you have only heard 2 of Tom's songs. Tom is a fighter. He is also a lover. He can get deep and personal like this, or he will lyrically murder his haters. Songs like no response, you will likely not care for. It's all facts, it's all about rising above the struggle, but it is hard. Just know that not all of his songs are like these 2. Tom can flex better than the best of them.

I was raised in the church from a baby and I'm 29 years old today and at some point I lost the relationship i had with Jesus and I don't know where I'm at today in faith but I know there has to be a God. As an addict that's still trying to recover I have latched onto Tom's music and through him your video for "church reaction from pastors perspective" popped up and something in me really wanted to hear it and now I'm on this video and I feel I need to say this to get my perspective out there. I'm struggling with the idea of becoming part of the church again because I was raised in it and I still ended up a hopeless alcoholic loading and unloading my gun in my bedroom night after night just wanting the feelings inside to stop and that the liquor never really got rid of. Tom's music and his ability to write EXACTLY how I've felt has helped and given me hope. Through his music on KZbin I found you and am now following I'm hoping maybe it will help me belive again.

I need some advice: my area is very catholic. I have tried the few other churches in my area but I did not like them. I worship and pray. I, also, will sometimes listen to online services. I just feel like I’m missing that community. I have a relationship with god, but I have had many times of doubt. I have had no catastrophic struggles or hardships. I’m afraid if that does happen and I am without a community I will struggle with holding faith. I know this sounds like I’m not a true believer, but I’m realistic. I am trying to be proactive before that day comes. Do you have any suggestions?

Tom is a seeker. He prayed for help and knows someone answered but doesn't know who answered. He has issues with organized religion in general. He owns Bibles and Christian books and reads them. The easy thing would be for him to lie about his beliefs to please his strong Christian base and claim he is a believer, but he doesn't. He is seeking truth and I respect that.

Mr Jeff, I saw in your opening montage that your (who I presume to be) wife is holding up a Seahawks logo. Are y'all from WA? I lived in Seattle for the first 23 years of my life and visited frequently for another 7 or 8. So I know how unchurched Seattle truly is; and I HATE slinging mud but there's no denying that what Mark Driscoll did to allow the collapse of Mars Hill only turned a population of skeptics (and outright hostiles) into tools used by the enemy to further demonize believers. It was truly shocking to me not just the amount of people gloating but who were entirely bewildered when I tried explaining that what Mark did was wrong but luckily I don't put my faith in man, more specifically I do not put my faith in a man named Mark Driscoll. And even I found it strange the amount of people who actually have this notion that my belief system collapsed because of the fall of the lead pastor. But man, I'm still torn on the guy. Back when my dad was alive and Mars Hill was thriving, he told me a story about a Driscoll fresh out of college (both majors in mass communication from Wazzu with my pops getting his master's in Broadcast Journalism from Syracuse Univ) seeking my dad's wisdom about marketing and advertising. And while my pops did find him a very good SPEAKING pastor, he did confide in me that in the 80s Mark came across as highly immature and arrogant (which I find especially notable bc seeking a veteran's career advice is an occasion one would think a person would behave as reverential as possible). My dad also iterated to me that he didn't hold any ill will and we all are different at 43 than we were at 23. Fair enough. But going from Driscoll who held Easter at Seahawks stadium to my uncle who pastored a TINY Baptist Church in Leavenworth for decades (close to lake Chelan and Wenatchee where they lived) where some weeks saw less than 10 people, that dichotomy really opened my eyes about what it means to be a pastor; not a master orator, but a pastor. And really reflecting on what the Bible says about a pastor and his flock, I have complete respect; even admiration; for your vocation. Just to use Mark D as an easy general example, I am humanly incapable of finding the words to begin to portray the abomination, shame, and general feeling of wretchedness, a sickening feeling that overcomes my body when I meditate on the prospects of if I were to be a pastor and having to give my personal account to the Lord. Sometimes when I question my faith I even harken back to this feeling and I remind myself that without the Holy Spirit this thought would not repulse me in such a transcendent way. I was very good friends with a pastor in Boise who I followed to plant his own church because I trusted that guy almost implicitly, felt strange at the time admiring a man in my mid20s roughly the same age. Just as I still admire my uncle who impregnated my aunt at 16, became a devoted husband of closing on 60 years, raised 3 daughters and pastored the flock he felt God called him to shepherd. The man who without prompting or announcing, rented a car at DFW airport during a layover to drive over an hour to visit my dying father in hospice who he hadn't spoken to in over a decade...an act I would have never been privy to if the nursing staff was not as thorough as they were. And man, that truly touched me. Matthew 6:3 'But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing...'

God does respond, it's just not the sound you're hoping for.. as you say, sometimes the answer is "No.".. sometimes the answer presents itself in a way you might miss if you're not looking for it. God provides the tools to do anything except turn to pills or to the bottle, but he can't be blamed for the weaknesses a man shows when he's tortured or has got too much free time on his hands. The church door is locked today, but the homeless shelter and food banks are open and they need all the help they can get.

Hopsins Ill mind 7 is a common take on religion as well. It is however a very vulgar song so not sure if it would be acceptable for your channel. It is an older song and Hopsin used to hold religion high until he hit a harsh downward spiral and made that track as a response.
