The team over at Excel Motorworks gave me the awesome opportunity to do one of the most fun comparisons ever! The LS and the 1JZ are two of the most popular engine swaps when it comes to the Nissan 240SX. Today we go through the benefits of each - one with a big turbo 1JZ making 420WHP and a naturally aspirated LS making 420WHP. What has the best for your buck? Which creates an emotional response? Which one is more fun to drive? Today we answer ALL of these questions and find out which engine swap is right for you! Thanks for watching and new uploads on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sundays!

Always said this, always will. LS builds are for budget builds (which is why they’re so prevalent in the modified scene, they’re dirt cheap to mod and make huge power), and the more traditional inline-6 builds (1 or 2J, RB series, etc) are for the guys with big money. Love both.

Running Kouki, pulled the SR20 for a 6L LS swap. I wanted something that was ON all the time for weekend cruising, nothing more frustrating than JUST cruising about and needing to punch it for a split second and get a foot full of nothing with turbo. This is the sole reason I didn't go a VE build on the SR, so much money and very unique for a high strung weekend cruiser trying to get me into trouble. Glad that you pointed out that swaps are an investment, in all senses of the words. Even SR swaps, which require little to no modification to the driveline or chassis to work, isn't plug n' play. Whatever choice one do, either going with modifying the KA, which is now getting some love after being harshly treated as a "truck engine", or going LS, which some of its cheaper variants many use are literally truck engines, is one's choice and should not be criticized. That goes for the oddball swaps, like SBC, SBF, SBM, Gen III Hemis, L28s, CA18, and even the 13B.

And then you’re still looking at tearing that motor down before it goes into a car if you’re smart. A brand new Chevy performance center crate LS3 costs that. You’d honestly be better off buying an OEM 2j short block brand new and buying a ported head from one of the various shops if you want to go the 2J route. The other thing to consider is weight. People seem to forget that a 2J typically weighs around 100lbs more than your 5.3 aluminum block LS and it’s also going to sit higher in the bay. That’s a big deal.

Over the last 15 years i've seen countless people start out with the CA which everyone knows is junk, eventually transition to SR's, realize it's still junk and breaks down because at the end of the day it's still a Nissan. People love the look of them, they dont want to deal with the motors.

I personally either motor is cool. And I'll give people credit for going the 2 or 1jz rout. But to me the ls1 is always my choice. I personally like the sound better and love the feel of naturally aspirated engines over turbo. So some of the points you made for the 1jz being more theatrical or emotional goes to the ls1 just for me personally. Not sure if I'm in the minority or majority with that opinion but I respect either engine big time.

V8 all day, not a fan of turbos, the LS has more potential, you could keep it NA, supercharge it, twin turbo, the world is your oyster, but the 1JZ has a lower floor, and arguably a lower ceiling as well, if not, at least a more expensive ceiling, easy choice for me

I feel like the turbo k series is becoming the alternative to the ls swap as JF prices keep going insane. Also you can get a new type r crate engine ready to drop in with a computer for less than a stock jz and it only needs a tune to make 350-400
@insertname941
@insertname941 3 жыл бұрын
I mean ive seen the type r engines used go for 5k to 6.5k is it really that high for a jz engine nowadays? Im looking for an rx7 body or some 80s car like that (just got into initial d recently so my obsessions been reignited) and i think it would be a cool concept to find something higher revving to throw in there that has the reliability and accessability that the rotary doesnt. I just know a k series would be more niche and custom fab work than something familiar like a jz. Yes ive thought of the s2000shigh revving plant for the rx7 but again, not cheap and VERY custom
