Turbocharged VW Jetta 2.0 Review!

For this quick review video, I continue my mountain drives this time around in a Precision turbocharged Volkswagen Jetta with the 2.0 liter motor. With a decent amount of power gained from the factory horsepower, it was an interesting drive feeling out the power band in comparison to stock along with the staggered tire setup.With the look of the stance world with a hint of performance, it was a great time. +08650rRider some believe or not don't have it. it comes from the anti corrosion spray they put on the doors and such and when it melts it smells like crayons because well its wax. i got rid of all that on mine when i painted it and no more wax smell now it just smells like leather.

Love these little 2liter beaters the ABA is so underrated in its ability to handle boost. Me, being foolish, I went the route of punching that bitch out to 2.3 and swapping a 16v head on it for a torquey little NA Grenade. VW's have a special place in my heart.

FYI for future videos about torque steer, it's caused by soft stock suspension bushings. Soft suspension bushings allow subtle changes in front toe. When you run harder or solid bushings you can eliminate toe changes on acceleration, but you're also introducing a lot more vibration into the suspension which can cause a lot of problems if other parts aren't strengthened as well.

The 2.0 8v is an alternative 1.8T. Both of the engines are similar. They can use the same parts. Just like any MK4 02j transmission can work with any 4 cylinder golf/Jetta/Beatle. That manifold allows you to bolt a K03/04 turbo from a 1.8T GTI/JETTA/BEATLE. It's basically a cheaper solution for Moding up the 2.0 8v

I just bought an 02 jetta, and it is a fun little car. 2.0 8v sohc with the 5 speed. The engine is a little weak compared to my previous cars at low rpm, but I find it has lots of pep past 3500. And watching this video gave me an incentive to do some work to the engine. For one thing, since it's an 8v and sohc, it makes working on it alot easier, and it has alot more potential for valve work and cams. That and less rotational friction makes a more reliable engine. Lastly, who makes a head spacer for these engines?

Little correction on the tire setup, actually a lot of the OEM wheels like longbeaches and montecarlos are a 225/45/17 size tire, generally the nicer volkswagen rims work with 225 tires, generally the 2.slow comes with 195s but you can fit 225 and probably a bit bigger without rubbing

+Brisk Moddz the unreliable myth comes from the fact that some motors were lacking adequate piston rings. I've had one. it's an easy and cheap fix. the 2.0 is just slow compared to its brothers.

I am really surprised the engine is staying together with producing more than twice what it's rated for from factory. Guess over-engineered eh? Nice review once again! Tyree White German cars suck when they are automatic, the clutch will get ruined more quickly from what the posts on VWvortex, if i were you i do a swap 5 Speed with an LSD, i would like to get a totaled r32 mk4 to convert to an AWD but no luck no so far on finding on. BUt get an 2.5 DP, you do have tiptronic transmission right?, then you can get paddles installed... just saying it has been done, AND i am going to be placing a MK6 steering wheel in mine this summer with all the hands free controls. be happy that you get a mk4..... best year in my opinion.... my dad has a mk3 for his fun weekend car.... i could go on for hours... lol

My buddy has a tdi jetta, real straight pipe. Turbo spools at idle and sounds absolutely amazing. Can here the blow off from blocks away. It's a tractor, almost pulled my jeep out of a ditch it couldent because he was pulling em from his rear tow hook. Only bad part is it's slower than my jeep. But it does get 50mpg

Especially with that motor and trans these are really good cars, besides certain things in the interiors falling apart. The body is aluminum so no rust, the paints seem to mostly hold up well, and the drivetrain and everything else lasts a long time on the 2.0s. I think even the other motors are not so bad as long as they aren't too neglected. But the 2.0 is a tank of a motor and it's torquey enough despite making like 100hp. You can pull from a stop in 3rd gear without stalling, it's incredible how easy to drive the manual is. And the mk4 jetta platform just feels sprightly and zippy with excellent visibility.

6:47. 9 times out of 10, the check engine light is for one of the O2 sensors. There's one near the exhaust manifold (could have been moved to make room for the turbo) and there's one behind the cat.

I think for every car you make a video for. You should consider doing 0-60 times. Just to show how fast it is with all the modifications add on. This way it would give the viewers what the car is all about.

115bhp means around 87whp stock. Hes making 240whp now, almost tripled the stock hp. pretty awesome! and that 8v is a bulletproof motor, besides some of the faulty piston rings in some of the engines, but its such a simple engine its not too big a deal to fix. My sister had one, put a few hundred thousand miles on it, got rid of it cause it rusted away, but the engine was still smooth as ever.

+Bagged mk5 gti its an average of 25% loss of power from the crank (bhp) to the wheels (whp). so multiply your bhp number by .25, and then subtract the number you get from the bhp.

for those saying they have a check engine light, I unplugged the connectors to mine and let it sit for about 30 minutes and I plugged it all back in and the light went away

drove my 2000 2.0 jetta for 3 years daily doin alot of stuff to it i was always told to set it up before you slap it on prepare certain parts but i mean realistically there one of the most solid motors in my opinion well only the standard transmission ones the auto ones suck hard in the mk4s

My MK3 Golf is probably going to get a 16v ABA with a turbo soon, should be fun. It's my first car and I'm keeping it. I 'have' a MK2 Jetta that I'm gonna be making really nice but it's a long term project. I should get a MK4 as a daily. I can't afford to have another car right now lol.

That car reminds me of my old TT with the upgraded turbo and noise. Ahh! Such a great car, too bad it was always breaking and the dash looked like a christmas tree.
