Obviously a VRT is sick. But after owning 4 and building 2 of them up (NA and VRT) I much prefer the sound of a NA VR6. And honestly, I think the 12v sounds better than a 24v. That’s just my opinion. I’ve owned both 12v and 24v and absolutely love the VR6.

I know exactly what you mean by the sound! Turbo vr6’s sound like crap to me! But I’ve seen some that actually have this mk4 Supra type of sound when turboed, but with custom exhaust! The vr6 in n/a form sounds absolutely beautiful

The dude who built my car has a VR6 turbo as well. The way you route the wastegate/screamer pipe makes a hell of a difference to the way it sounds overall. Different boost controllers also changed the sound.

The vr6 is a magical piece of engineering.. 17 degrees between banks If memory serves me right.. Usually sound incredible but this one sounds like doodoo.. I'm a life long lover of vdubs [mk1-3] and aircooled but not so much with the newer ones, they lack that mechanical personality.. To robotic feeling, Maybe I'm just old now😕

Aagh! I used to have a 99 Mk3 Jetta T3/T4 turbo VR with a Quaife and 3.94 r&p. AND straight pipe 3" exhaust from downpipe back. It was noisy and obnoxious but I loved driving it.

my daily driver is an '87 golf, with the 1.6 diesel engine. good for a whopping 54hp. 0 to 100 km/h in about 10 to 15 minutes. i got a open exhaust which exits on the drivers side in front of the rear wheel. its loud AF and slow as hell. but, i think it's absolutely hilarious :D

This was one of the cars I wanted to build. The main difference being I was going to stop at about 350 hp and actually see if I could get the parts to convert it to AWD for a rally setup. I also wanted to look at the VW Carrado if someone beat me to the Jetta idea. I guess Carrado it is.

I bought a VR6 CC last year (3.6L). It's not the fastest up here in Denver, and I've had faster cars (GTI, TTS), but I knew it could be my last chance to own one. It sounds sooo great. I'm about to get the resonator removed, then probably get some Borla mufflers. And who knows? Maybe in a couple of years I will turbo charge it into a 500HP sleeper. Sure it makes 0 financial sense, but cars are not about sense.

Brandon Hall I would disagree that is sounds like a Subaru or Evo. I think this VR6 has a very distinct sound(they do even when not boosted, I actually think they sound great with a full exhaust when NA). This car's wastegate noise combined with the unique sound of the engine/exhaust itself creates a sound all it's own. My WRX that was running STG 2+ intercooler no cats and external wastegate was loud and you definitely heard the wastegate doing its job, but it never sounded like this car on throttle. I was running 19 PSI on my car so the boost was similar to this car as well. This car sounds way different than any EVO or WRX I have ever heard. It was awesome to see a nicely done boosted VR6 Jetta though. I wanted one of those so bad when I was 17. The wing from the Corrado was awesome! Definitely a nice touch. I am sure plenty of cars have seen that wing work first hand right after he smokes them at the light lol.

OfWhatsToCome the VR6 is definitely a sleeper, and even if someone knew what a VR6 was they certainly wouldn't assume it has 500 WHP. So buy definition that's a sleeper, it an older(boxy) 4 door sedan. If you are easy on the throttle or have a map running very low boost the car wouldn't be intimidating. I am sure you could make a good chunk of coin racing with this car because everyone would underestimate it.

A sleeper is by definition, an unassuming car on the exterior that is close if not stock in appearance with power. This car isn't unassuming, it has a FMIC that's fairly blatantly obvious, decals everywhere, aftermarket wheels, and it's loud as fuck. The Civic that he reviewed years ago is an accurate description of what a "Sleeper" car is.

Vr6s are awesome. Even stock ones. My homie had a 96 or 95 passat with a vr6 and it was lowered with everything upgraded in the suspension and a borla exhaust. It was so rumbly. Its hauled ass too. I would love to have one one day.

In Europe the MK3 Jetta was called a Vento and we didn't get it with AWD at all. However we got the MK3 Golf VR6 with AWD, but only the 2.9 VR6. And unlike the USA all MK4 VR6's got AWD, 2.8 and R32.
