I lived on the lake over 10 yrs when I was 30. I worked the local bar and had bands every weekend and worked crazy late night hours. Had beautiful place where people loved fishing apparently. I was a people person & enjoy people of all walks, but I had a psychotic dog that would sit in the bushes by the dock or over by the cove area and would act like he was gonna eat ya alive . It was just me and my baby girl so I loved him being so protective but it was sometimes hell beings he wouldn't stop barking until they would leave which early mornings was when I was just getting my sleep so it kept me awake at times but I never thought to act as foolish as this disturbed lady. I may have mumbled sometimes but more so at my dog than at those guys fishing.

I was thinking the same thing! I have come across a few like this, had one threaten to ‘blow a hole’ in my boat. I never understood what the big deal is.. I’m not casting ON to your dock, I’m certainly not leaving my lure on your dock, so why on earth does it bother you so much that my boat is 10’ away from your darn dock?? Lol it’s ridiculous and just proves some people love being miserable and actively seek new ways to make themselves as miserable as possible

I encountered a person like this while fishing with a friend one time. We talked about her to each other loudly enough that she could hear us, but never responded to her directly. Drove her absolutely insane. She made the obligatory threat to call the police, before her husband(I assume) came out to get her. I feel really bad for that man.

My friend had a small generator on his boat and it was connected to a water pump. He had people on there docks spraying him with water. So he turned on the generator and sprayed them back with a high pressure pump. They called the cops on him. The cops told the home owner that they did not own the water. They only owned the dock

That being said, if me and the kids are on the bank and a boater runs right through our lines it becomes a different story. Just last week we had a couple kayakers pull up on my kids lines.

In general riparian rights do say the land owner owns the lake or river bottom until meeting the property coming from the other side. So wading, dropping an anchor or putting down poles can be considered trespassing, but the water itself is public

Have you ever considered that these people may have had thieves use their docks as a means of entry/exit? Maybe try being polite. Offer your name, phone number, or show an ID. Amazes me that people believe they "own" the water around their dock. In some states, once you build a dock (which is regulated by the state), the dock is just like a driveway that crosses public easement. The property owner needs to learn what the laws are before pestering fishermen. This in itself is illegal. Harassing fishermen is illegal lady.

Apparently, on Michigan's inland lake's and streams, waterfront owners own the bottom lands and share the water with the public. I experienced this exact situation recently and admittedly, kept going back to fish the same person's dock just to antagonize them. I guess I was getting an adrenaline rush from the whole confrontation. The last time I went back to resume the show I was met by a sherriff's deputy who fined me for operating my boat within 100' of a private dock. I admit I was being an intrusive ass and should have let up a bit and fished elsewhere for awhile. I wasn't aware of the 100' rule and have fished people's docks for years as many others do. When I appeared in court to contest the fine, the judge kind of sided with me stating that some people can be overly sensitive about the space around their waterfront property. He did a good job educating me on riparian owners rights and that they do in fact own the ground that is below the water which gives them the right to install a dock or a mooring for a boat or raft. However, he did not let me off the hook. The fine was steep.

Perhaps the biggest mistake, in regard to a Crazy Karen on a dock, when you are on a boat...is to just not engage them in a conversation. Just because someone speaks to you, does not in all cases, obligate you to a response. Let the Crazy Karen be crazy. (Just a thought I had at the moment.)

There’s a public creek near a golf course near me. They recently put up “no parking” signs and there’s literally no other way to get to the creek. My folks used to have a lake house adjacent to a boat launch and channel that accessed the main lake. Non-stop boat traffic, quite often, but the boat guys would also fish around our property quite often. Casting for bass, pike, walleye, what have you. If I didn't have anything else to do, I'd often go outside and ask them how things were going, or if they had a nice Pike or Musky on I'd go out and watch. Sometimes they'd get gear stuck on the shoreline, or our piers, and I'd always help them out with it if I was around. Usually crankbaits. But pretty much every time I'd engage an angler in conversation, they seemed real apprehensive, as if they assumed I was an MK just going out to give them guff about fishing around our property, which I never was. Sad how often folks who are just trying to fish and enjoy a public resource have to deal with obnoxious people on the bank. Even when somebody WAS in the wrong, somehow, I always kept my cool and didn't make an issue out of it. There's just no need at all for this kind of behavior, 99.9% of the time.

I don't know that lake but where cabin is we have to apply for dock permit. In the agreement we affirm the dock is a privilege/ courtesy and the permit could be invalidated if the owner does anything to prevent public enjoyment. When rescinded it must be remove entirely at the owners expense. Then they would have to start the application process again. If that's available there somebody needs to teach her a lesson.

I get both sides. My mom lived on a lake with a nice big dock. We all kept our toys docket there. I was the fisherman and the brothers had water toys. It pissed us all off to no end to walk on the dock and find hooks stuck in anything and everything. Seats ripped up, sun tops torn to shit hooks in the top deck. I also get the fish the docks. Best place to catch them. Unfortunately it is the 1% at both ends that screw it up for both ends. It is best to just move on, because they are mad not at you personally but the last disrespectful ass that did do disrespectful things. I made the mistake of going to a lodge on a busy lake in Canada where every time you came anywhere near a dock the "friendly Canadian" landowners would throw cherry bombs out their windows or their kids would toss rocks at the water. The first time it happened I thought they were shooting at me. One property owner even cussed out an elderly Mennonite couple from PA that we had made friends with while we were there. (Not for fishing under the dock but just for fishing in front of it in "their" bay. They told them the people staying at the lodge were "stealing" their kids fish.) The property owners were so bad on that lake that a really nice lodge eventually lost enough business that it had to close down.

About 20 people in my family rent a house on a lake every year, sometimes people practically land on the beach they come so close or they fish right off the dock. We always yell hi and wave, they do too, sometimes we get into a conversation with them and it's always pleasant. If kids were swimming in the water or something I'd ask him to move back with his hooks but No one ever fished too close when we were swimming. No need for the hostility, You can make a lot of friends by being decent. The water belongs to the people!

@@Justicia007 I'm probably the least hostile guy you will ever meet since I will just pull up my motor and move without complaining. I have even changed my style of fishing over the years in order to avoid confrontations with landowners and even other anglers working an area. In the past when I have rented cottages with docks and I have seen folks that will see me watching them out a window and they will pull away from the dock just because they are so used to being confronted by home owners. It's just sad.

@@DaveReed101 I find it very sad. Especially since Canadians have such a good reputation for being kind and welcoming. Canada still has a lot of wild land so I would imagine there's a lot of fishing in Canada. It's the extreme liberalism and extreme entitlement that we see in society today, and that seems pretty rampant in Canada. We vacation in Maine. Some of the nicest exchanges we've had have been with fishermen drifting close to our shore and our dock. Of course plenty in our party are fisherman as well and fish the whole shore and they would never treat someone that way. I'm sad for fishermen and they shouldn't put up with that. Everyone who sees this happening (when there's no trespassing) should stand up for the fisherman. In general we should be standing up whenever we see people putting animals above humans. It's a sick worldview.

This happened to a buddy at a local lake on 4th if July. Well everybody at the beach swimming a few hundred yards down decided to swinm right outside their dock and party for the next two days. That lady was dying inside. There was like 80 poeple at one point

My dad passed in 2021. He is the reason I absolutely love fishing! I usually could outfish him, but one other thing he taught me was to respect people and how to end conflict. She obviously has a problem and doesn’t respect her own neighbors by having a very loud parrot. I happen to live in a neighborhood and I also happen to have a macaw! Macaws are one of the loudest of all parrots and when I have her in her outside cage I do everything in my power to keep her from calling out. When she begins to call I give her a foraging treat, and bring her right in the house if she continues. Just because I happen to have a bird and love her doesn’t mean my neighbors do! This lady’s bird was annoying me….i couldn’t imagine living next door to her!!! If I were this man, I would be the bigger person and find another area on the lake to fish. That lake looked like it had plenty of other fishing spots! You may be “ legally” in the right, but to continue to keep this crazy banter going is beyond me! Same thing on the highway…. When someone tails me and wants me to get out of the way, I gladly do! No skin off my nose!

Lol In our state she could have been fined. Using the hose to harass him is illegal as long as he was on public water. Hunters on public property or sometimes even their own property get this harassment too. One guy had a neighbor who would pull his truck up to the property line and blast noise every time he saw owner in his tree stand. LOL One night it wasn't the owner , It was the local game warden. The nut job found out he could be fined for harassment even if he never left his own property.

Here is a pro tip to fishermen. I have dealt with this type before and the exact same issue. DON'T even engage in talking to them. Obviously, she is a lonely cat lady angry at everyone. Stay silent and keep fishing. If she does the dirty tricks like spraying water or harassing, you in any way you call DNR. It's actually a crime in most states to harass a hunter or fishermen.
