Building and maintaining muscles is too much work. It takes constant time, with managing adequate supplement dosages and constant exercise. The ideal body type that women chose was correct as most muscular big bodied men have higher testosterone counts and can end up becoming aggressive which may result in lethal violence if it occurs. I also remember my friend who had damaged his liver due to taking supplements over a period of time and would not recommend others to risk their lives. I suggest maintain the ideal skinny body type that the Japanese women chose.

As you can see from this video, men typically want to see muscular guys. Then as time goes on, female readers became a large part of the readership for shounen manga. So manga editors told mangaka to make the design for the MCs in these manga to look more like what female readers in Japan want to see. Then it became a stereotype for muscular looking men to be meathead with almost zero IQ. So now MCs in shounen manga can't be muscular because they invoke that kind of stereotype in the mind of Japanese people.

I can vouch for this being the case in Japan. I'm a muscular guy, and the guys make a big deal about it: they find it macho, masculine, and cool; I get groped by them often (thats just how it be in Japan, I've made peace with it). But I find that most women don't care that much about it at all (aside from the few women I've met with muscle fetishes), aside from as an oddity. Just to set the record straight, I work out as a hobby. It's fun, invigorating, and a great stress-reliever for me.

It is important to note that it is all based on cultural preferences. As an Asian myself, I concured that Western Women are generally more attracted to men with bodies like Goku or Dio, of course. But most Asian Women don't really like Men with muscles like those because for one thing, it intimidates them (Asian Women tend to be more timid and not concerned with extreme workouts like Western Women) so they prefer their guys to have just a little bit of muscles there but not over the top and that's why they'd prefer either O or T. How do I know this? Because, I used to have a body like "K", and the only thing I succeeded attracting here are Gays or Female Strippers / Prostitutes but NOT the feminine Women. So Western Men who keeps defending about this "Biology" thing that Women want Strong Men, I strongly advice you to change your mentality because that is NOT how things work here in Asia. Sure, burly muscles might work on your Country but NOT here, I'm afraid. I respect your efforts in gaining a fit body and healthy lifestyle but it's NOT what's going to make you attractive here in Asia. Honestly, a lot of Japanese or Koreans (and especially those who are fans of them) tend to prefer their men to have "Feminine" attributes like a very smooth face and body, clean-shaven and with make-ups on (Pretty-boys as they would call them). As it turns out, Western Women don't want their guys to have make-ups on. They prefer them to be Manly-men with chisled abs and rough facial features. Yeah, Japanese women preferring the more slimmer, skinnier male than muscular, lean could be more of a cultural preference than a biology preference. I always felt preference doesn't necessarily mean that what a gender find as the most physically attractive. The beauty standard set by the country could have influenced their culture into seeing that as more attractive. I just find it precuilar as to why Japanese women would feel an average size male is an ideal than a physically shape size male? When talking about the physical and sexually attractive side of males it raises the question as to why Japanese women would also prefer a more feminine look than a masculine look for a man? I think everything could be Japanese culture and norms which is more monolithic. Muscularity feels like taboo and seen as not attractive. However, I do think Japanese women do like muscle on men, just not big muscle. I would like to see more topic on Japan preference on male muscularity and how it affect Japanese women's selection when choosing a partner.

My wife from countryside Japan was also baffled by the women's most popular choice. In her words, "病気じゃない？", which basically means "He looks sick". I think the city folk might prefer a more j-idol type bod, and if you did the same survey in the country, the results may vary.

Japanese men in the countryside aren't exactly gym bulky either just because their occupations are less white collar, and the women there also consume the same type of media as the people living in the urban area. I love how you gave em a wide range of body types to choose, cus i see a lot of people doing this kind of video and they often provide limited range of body types (mostly 4 pictures with an extreme difference).. Anyway, i think people (especially women) unconsciously intimidated with muscles (even tho they think that muscle is attractive) as if people with bigger muscle tend to have a strict tough kind of personality. I once asked some of my friends (women) this type of question and they gave similar answer like this video.. But when i asked them wether muscle is pleasing to the eye and sexy, they say yes.. So i gave em a scenario, if there's someone, the love of your live, who love you unconditionally and you can choose to customize their appearence, what will you do? I don't get how O is the most popular body type among women, even though a lot of idols do look like that. He is slimmer than the average Japanese woman, and I've watched interviews where Japanese women considered that a bad thing. M and T are much more balanced and shouldn't be viewed as intimidating (I suspect that Japanese women view big muscles as narcissism, which is a valid view).

Well, it feels awesome with a body like that. They aren’t doing it for the women, sure at first it might be a reason but the commitment it takes for a ripped body is a reflection of a person’s resolve to respect their body. I like thin Japanese guys but they have to be fashionable. I also have a preference for longer hair styles. I am more interested in the Visual Kei or Host looking guys. Thin Jpop guys are attractive as well. Too much muscle is a turn off for me, some muscle is fine though. That's a good view on people who work hard to get there. But have you also considered that some of those guys do it so that they feel better than others while looking down on them? Some of these muscular guys tend to get all high and mighty. Don't get me wrong, I like working out too and strive to be M type. I have only gone up to T type, but I've never really liked over-muscular looks. Confidence is good, but not by putting others down. So you can't blame people for not prefering muscular guys. That's just how they see it

Everything about our appearance gives us status, a good haircut, being tall, wearing nice clothes, and of course having a developed physique. Women say they don't like muscular guys but every body here missed the main point I was trying to make. It's not that muscles make you that much more physically attractive to women (although based on my experience women certainly are attracted to a developed physique, they are just a little more shy at admitting it. Especially in more reserved countries such as Japan or traditional parts of Europe). It is the status it brings. Men respect other muscular men, we portray heroes and leaders as physically powerful (and this goes for Japan as well, it's seen throughout mangas and so on). This respect comes from both the obvious physical power and intimidation and the knowledge that such a physique took hard work to sculpt. The attention of men and the status it brings is what ultimately attractive to women.

It doesn’t matter what the girls say... on Camera... if two guys go to a club in Tokyo. one is O and the other Q. I can guarantee that Q will always be more successful with the girls than O. Even if there are slight differences in how much a muscular body is desired in a culture - a (not over the top) muscular body is always preferred to a O body type.
