Congratulations on your new house:) it is a lovely feeling to finally call a place your home. My husband is American and I am Australian. I lived in the States for nearly 20 years, and then brought my husband over to live in Australia. Like you, we moved so many times, with even a stint in a motel for a couple of months(our house in the States sold a lot faster than we had planned) and last year we bought our forever home. We joke that the only way we are moving out is in a coffin:) My husband will be able to apply for citizenship early next year, and then never again will we have to deal with immigration, on either side of the ocean. Life is good:) Wishing you all the best in your new home!

The area at the top of the stairs can be turned into a teens hang out area when Aurora and any siblings get older. Toss a TV, couch and a console up there and keep the kids out of your hair. Or put a couch and a bookshelf and make a reading nook for when you want some space from each other and just want some quiet. Talk to a local pool shop and find out what type of system your pool has (chlorine/salt water etc) and get some help with the right chems and pH balancing stuff. Get a pool scoop net and every evening give the pool a scoop and look at a cover for winter or autumn to catch the leaves.

Re: The veggie patch. Those "grass clippings" are more likely to be 'straw bale compost'. It's used widely in Australia and is a great composting fertiliser. It is laid on top of the garden soil to keep the moisture in, in such a hot climate. As the veggie patch is currently fallow, that straw is keeping weeds from taking root. Once you get around to planting, dig it into the soil and your veggies will thank you.

Since looking after a pool is new to you, visit a nearby pool shop and let them dazzle you with all the new technology that's available. It's like tyre-kicking, but for pools. These days, having a pool need not be a major pain in the arse; once you've got it set up and balanced, it can be made to look after itself. If you let it get away, though, it takes quite a bit of work to bring it back. And yes, they do attract snakes. Most people have a gadget that automatically vacuums the bottom and another one that skims the surface, removing the leaves. In the olden days, getting the water right was a complicated business involving a miniature chemistry set, and lots of obnoxious chemicals. Nowadays, there are semi-automatic gadgets that can keep everything in balance. I'm not saying rush out and buy all the kit [you do have a mortgage, after all], but definitely find out what an 'ultimate' pool setup would look like. When you are a wealthy industrialist, you can just get the 'pool man' to come once a week.

That front (downstairs) guest room could also be a playroom (shut the door to hide the mess when visitors) or an office (shut the door for quiet/privacy if working, and see out to the street a la Mrs Mangel LOL Tho as a guest bedroom it'd be handy for separation, they'd have easy access to kitchen & bathroom without interfering with your family's routine esp if they're staying for a while (eg UK visitors) and you guys are still living normally eg work/school. @@ThatJohnstonLife Make sure to get a haul cord on the leading edge of the cover. It makes it much easier to pull the cover over the pool, especially by yourself. When you don’t have one and you are doing it single handed, the cover gets pulled off centre as you walk down the side of the pool. With the haul cord, you just take the cord, walk to the end of the pool and then pull the cover towards you. Much easier.

Get yourself a decent comparitor test kit for the pool ...to check chlorine unless it's a salt sanitized one .Kit will importantly do pH and total alkalinity too of course....Get a bag or two of pool floc and before you do anything ....floc the pool ..You clearly have floating algae (why the water is greenish) that you need to kill before you even begin to clean it . I have had 19 years of maintaining a 25 metre school pool ..no longer do it but you never forget ...Shock dose your pool with sodium hypochlorite (granulated chlorine) and wait til your pH levels are anywhere in the sevens ..Ideal is 7.2 to 7.6 .If your pool ph is below 7.0 which is neautal it's acidic and if it's much above 7.8 to 8.0 it's alkaline and you'll need products to adjust either way before using it .. Outdoor chlorine levels can be 1.5 parts per million to 3 parts per million ...Also grab a bag or two of pool stabilizer and treat it with that ,,It's a kind of sunscreen for it and will save you a lot in chlorine or salt , especially in Queensland . UV destroys chlorine /salt levels quickly without stabilizer ..Beaut house and it'll be great to see where you go with it ...

Just found the channel and loving the content. I was going to comment and say you need to buy and not waste money renting but I see you did that quick smart! :) QLD Property is going to keep booming. Pay your place off quick and get a 2nd investment with renters paying it off. I did - best decision I ever made. 'drying thing' lol... clothes line. Dont get a boat. Make a friend that has a boat. Just a waste of money. Caravan has merit - you would use that more often and re-sell for better value. Im going to assume later I see a video where you get some chlorine to help sort out that pool. lol im editing as I watch... nothing wrong with the leaves and cords in the pool. id swim in it (with chlorine) any day! Who got time to clean every other day or use a pool cover? Nobody! cinema room is a good idea. toilets should always be separate.. sh1t smells shi1tty a lot.

@@ThatJohnstonLife Yea, but British Columbia weather is better than Australia because we have neither winter and nor too hot like Australia.

Just found your channel, and enjoying it. Congrats on your new home. I lived in Australia a few times, but I couldn't take the heat now. You're a really good looking guy lol. Just being honest, not flirting! You're a happily married man :) All the best, and I look forward to more vids.
