£135 for the standard model is pretty good for a loco this size, especially one from a relatively new manufacturer! These little engines look so good, and the plain liveries are great for people who want to customise them.
@ThatModelRailwayGuy2 жыл бұрын
Yeah it does feel quite reasonable especially considering the amount of metal on it! I definitely think going for mostly plain liveries was a deliberate choice by Planet Industrials to encourage people to make each model their own. It's a really interesting approach and one I don't think we've seen properly in RTR. Thanks for watching 😃
@treinenliefde2 жыл бұрын
Yes the liveries are really nice! The simple, customisable livery was one of the main reasons I was drawn to this model. There were various engines that actually had BR logo's, so that'll be interesting to model as well.

That is a nice one, That Model Railway Guy. Well detailed, an excellent runner, and respectable price. I'd grab one (maybe two) in a second for my industrial or heritage layout. Footplate detail is great. Customizable parts is also a great idea and photo-etched plates are a nice accessory. It seems rather large for an industrial loco, almost as large as a Jinty. It will be the "big" loco on some layouts. Another great review, my friend!

These are lovely little locos. I think leaving the livery open to interpretation is a good move by Planet Industries as the whole business is about scratch building and custom kits so being able to add your own name really works with that philosophy

I really quite like the colour, and it's almost a shame to weather it haha. But yeh, the extra steps and boxes are a bit of the design philosophy of Planet Industrials, with them being kit designers foremost. I remember them having ideas for 3d printed parts in the future, such as a cut down cab or giesl injector, to model Victories in various phases of their lifes.

When will there be a decent model made for the younger target market? I'm a teenager and can only afford 1 new model a year. Frustrating that nobody's thought of tailoring to the younger audience. For instance Dapol's Hawthorn Leslie tank has increased in price by like 10-20%, and I was looking forward to purchasing one of those...
@ThatModelRailwayGuy2 жыл бұрын
It is a bit of a shame that there isn't anyone who has really tackled this market properly. I think the issue is that, even if you were trying to make a range of models for a younger/more budget conscious audience, the cost in making those models is still quite high which pushes up the price. Just look at the Bachmann Thomas range for example. That said, I'd definitely take a look at the Oxford Rail J27 - it's fairly simple engine but a really good runner, great detail and they can often be picked up new for under £100. Would say they have the balance just about right, the running at slow speed looks perfect, building kits and also modifying rtr which body shells for industrial use it's a challenge to get a good slow speed running, weight and controllability... All 3 of those are down to motor and flywheels, the weight and aids pickup plus sprung axle... It's very unusual to have less lining... 😅Having just designed some for my kit.. who the hell puts so much lining on small industrial locos.

So a relatively unknown in the RTR world was able to: Design and tool a NEW model. Make that model from mostly DIECAST. Fitted it with a SOUND decoder. Bring it to market for RRP of £245 How is that even possible?LOOK AT THAT CAB DETAIL!!!!! MEANWHILE: Hornby pushing old tooling 08 for £185 DCC ready... Hmm
@ThatModelRailwayGuy2 жыл бұрын
I don't think it's a fair comparison in reality. Bear in mind that Hornby is a much larger company, with a lot more going on. They're also not in the best financial state either which is perhaps why they've identified a popular model in their range and are looking to extract as much profit from it as possible. Meanwhile Planet Industrials is a much smaller operation working on a single project. That's not to say I agree with Hornby charging that much for an older loco but I don't think it's fair to compare the two companies when they're at vastly opposite ends of the spectrum.
