964 Turbo is the best of the air cooled turbo stable - perfect blend of that classic shape with more modern suspension, steering and brakes. Peerless build quality. Then again, I'm biased as I have one :-)

Nicely done. I’m in the camp that prefers the iconic style and vestiges of early 911 mechanical feel in the 964, but clearly the 993 is also a future classic. The 3.6 split rim wheels are works of art, by the way. Among the best ever, along with 964 Cup Ones and the 992 RS Spyder-style.

I disagree. It's a tie. 993 ass is the best looking and 964 has the best looking front. You simply can't beat the fat ass of the 993 widebody. Can't afford either but that's how I feel. Cheers.

Having owned and driven every day, a 911 turbo LE for 1 yr and a 993 turbo for 3 yrs owned from new, these cars are like chalk and cheese, the LE is awesome car, the 993 whist a truly great car is just a quick sports car with very little character, 964 sits much closer to the LE.

The 964 and 993 are both great cars I remember being told the 993 pedals are slightly offset making it awkward to drive. I hope you continue series with the 996, 997 Gen 1, Gen 1.5 which are apparently very rare and even more so with a manual gearbox the Gen 2 which with a manuals gearbox also made in limited numbers, the 991.1, 991.2 and finally finish off with the 992.

Great/informative video! 993 FTW. My fondest automotive memory occurred in Aug 1998. I visited a local Pcar dealership to purchase/order my first new Porsche. While chatting with my SA, the SA offered me a test drive in a slightly used 1998 993TT in arena red metallic. I took the car out - alone! After driving this monster, and upon approaching the dealership, I recall my legs trembling & my nerves caused my entire body to shake in bewilderment/astonishment. What an awesome freaking car! I was literally in awe of this car’s performance! SA advised the car was owned by a 70 year old man who claimed the car was too rough for him. Dealer wanted $100k for the car. That was more than I wanted to spend on a car so I ordered a 1999 996.1 Carrera in Guards Red. Car came in at under $69k, and I got a discount of a few thousand off MSRP, so the car cost me around $65,900. Fast forward, and I never forgot the impact that 993TT had on me. It took the fun out of owning the 996. Kept the 996 for three years and moved on…. The 993TT is the cat’s a$$! Biggest regret in my life was not getting that beautiful arena red 993TT! To this day, that 993TT was equivalent to losing out on the finest attainable woman extant! Oh how I cherish & admire the owner of a 993TT!

This is very high quality work. I respect the fact that you give us so much actual information on these cars where most channels would simply focus on slogans and feelings. One thing you didn't mention is that the 3.3 964 still retained a K-Jetronic -derived CIS fuel injection system which made it quite different from the era's normally aspirated cars that were full on EFI at this point. Though the great Paul Frere must have mentioned it in his excellent book, I've lost my copy so I'm asking here: Did the Turbo 3.6 also still make do with mechanical fuel injection? And if yes, how does that compare to the EFI-equipped 993T in terms of drivability and perhaps in terms of fuel usage? Thank you for the good work that you do.

964 turbo takes it for me. Classic looks that haven't been replicated since. To me 993s always looked as if they don't fit in with classic Porsche DNA(frumpy looking and soft). Same can be said of the 996..

Yet again thank you, I was really looking forward to part 2. You said the x50 pack on the 993 was 430bhp, and 450bhp on the final year, wasn’t the turbo s 450bhp ? I wonder if you could buy a standard 408bhp and still get Porsche to upgrade it to 450bhp. The 993 turbo has been my dream car since I was 17 years old and saw one in a showroom. Believe it or not I had the chance to buy one in 2006 for £28k !!! Yes my old landlord had a collection of 911 turbos including two 993’s, I went on and on at him about how much I loved them, he said “ give me £28k and it’s yours “, I tried several banks to get a loan, I was earning about £300 per week as a motorcycle courier, and I just couldn’t get the money, I still have nightmares about it now. I never would of sold it if I had got it, but the fact it’s probably worth £250k now would of been a nice feeling. Great video

Yes but what gives the 993 turbo a classic car drive? Everything you say about it is true but apart from the fact that is is air-cooled, the drive quality is very modern. Closer to the 997 than to the 930 or even the 964 turbo.
