I lived in Warwick and the Porsche dealership in Saltisford had a silver 959 in the late 80’s. It was on a centre stage platform and was already sold. The sales guys let me sit in the car if I removed my school shoes 🤣. For me, the 959 is the holy grail of ultimate cars!

Thank you Lee for the opportunity of sharing the facts, figures and relevance of the 959. Superb video , love the rolling intro. A privilege to own, drive and be a custodian of. 🐐

If people admire the 959 so much, why nobody mention who is the designer and engineer !

Fantastic video chaps, loved the interview segment. I completely.stand by that quote "the future now" it's amazing that a car that is 35 years old can feel like it does today is testament to Porsche engineering skills. It's also an under rated car for the uninitiated, myself being one of those until I passenger'ed in Luftie. It doesn't have the external drama of the F40 (which is what I also compared it to), but it does a total soul that is way above anything of its time. This video and others helps educate the uninitiated in what a huge piece of history it is to not only Porsche, but the whole automotive industry. Bravo on educating us 🙌🙌🙌

As an editor, I look at the competition on a daily basis and am mostly disappointed by a) the knowledge of the editors and b) their skills. But the way the 959 slowly rolls in at the beginning of the video on the right is the absolute final score. Good video and thanks for the news about the tech transfer. The majority of current buyers have no idea what a brilliant car the current Beetle is. Brilliant!

Great video Lee , I’ve Always admired the 959 , and it was model that got me so interested hooked on the brand … in 1996 at the age of 25 I bought my first 911 , an 83’ SC coupe in Guards red , and since that day I’ve always believed that the 959 remains the all time Great . ❤️

Great video and packed full of so many interesting facts about the 959’s development. I remember seeing one in the wild in the late 1980’s in Alsace France. Seeing it amongst the (average) cars of the period was like seeing a UFO, awesome.

Marvelous piece. I have a 997 2009 Turbo and it displays much of the 959 attributes especially ease of driving even though the car is tuned to 535 bhp.

I have some memories seeing the 959 as a kid several times on display at German tuning parts shop D&W. But it was in company of an F40 and the first generation Viper.

Great work on this video, with lots of thorough details on the 959! It’s hard for people today to truly grasp how far advanced the 959 was when it came out. You could literally take several other of the most advanced cars of that period and add all of their “new“ technologies together, and they still wouldn’t have even come close to what the 959 brought to the table, from a very small independent company that had to generate all of its profits from sports cars! It was a space ship amongst horse carts. It was also the very first production car to break the 4.0s 0 to 60 time, as measured by Car & Driver.

When i was a kid I remember the 959 & the F40 of which I thought the dash looked terrible looked like a kid had made it out of felt…the 959 was so way ahead of its time it made the F40 outdated as soon as it came out..currently drive 911 992 Carrera S 👍

True, as a kid i preffered the 959 over the F40. Today i would choose the F40 though as it delivers something crazy that is totally different to anything modern.

911's are never about ostentatious look at me, so for that reason alone red leather would be a no. As for the 959 well that was what I had on my bedroom wall as a poster not a Countach.

The 959 was indeed prescient. But most of the things that it predicted are of dubious value in a good driver's car. In short, what the 959 predicted was how it would all go wrong in the sports car market, leaving us with hugely capable but so very uninvolving and ultimately unsatisfying modern cars. That, I'm afraid, is the 959's legacy.
