The original RUF CTR put Alois Ruf's eponymous company on the map back in 1987 when the original 'Yellowbird' beat rivals from Porsche and Ferrari to be crowned the world's fastest car. RUF has built a new CTR every ten years since in celebration, but none have been more tantalising than the RUF CTR Anniversary, unveiled in 2017 to mark 30 years of CTR production.
It's taken two years of testing but finally the first CTR Anniversary models are being delivered to customers. So is this €1 million sports car, built new by RUF from the ground up worth its hefty price tag? I take the RUF CTR Anniversary for a test drive through the countryside in Germany to deliver you the answer.

Awesome car, saw one a few months ago, in person it looks absolutely menacing and yet beautifully classic at the same time. You did an absolutely fantastic job at presenting the car, probably the best review of the CTR I have seen so far. Keep up the good work!

Just the ultimate and best 911 "Classic line" ever build and if you prefer the aspirated engine, the SCR with the same body and features shall satisfy your entire wishes : CTR 2017 and SCR are both amazing cars for the simple pure sport driving pleasure ... Congratulations again to Aloïs Ruf for his creativity and his courage to have developped and build such cars ! We can not imagine the extent that such a project represents with all the involved risks and the related efforts but the result is just up to par of them : fantastic, huge and perfect !

Dream car and while I’m dreaming I will take the new SCR for my ultimate NA car. That original SCR in that red looks awaking. I hope some of the new owners get colors other than yellow. I’m a masSive RUF fan and one day hope to go collect my own RUF car from the factory and Alois himself had me the keys. Just thinking of that moment makes my heart skip as beat and arm hairs stand in end.

I did a bit more research and have found several comparable factors. 1) The Ruf has slightly more horsepower and torque than a Singer. Most importantly, the Ruf weighs 600 pounds more than a Singer! That's a huge weight increase! Apples to Apples it looks like the Singer has the edge on performance but we will wait and see. 2) In terms of external styling I could see the Porsche community being split. Some people will prefer the Ruf while others will prefer the Singer. At the moment, I'm giving the edge to Singer in this department. 3) As far as the interior is concerned, the Singer has got Ruf beat hands down. No contest. 4) Another important factor is price. I've always felt that Singer's prices are exhorbitant but I can't believe that a Singer will now be a "bargain" compared to the price of a Ruf. That's crazy. As it stands I'm 80% in camp Singer and 20% in camp Ruf. This might seem bad for Ruf but they are the first Porsche customizer that is a real challenger to Singer. There have been many wannabe-challengers but none of them has come close to competing with Singer. The Porsche Ruf SCR is promising. Competition is good.
@hectorherbert6585
@hectorherbert6585 3 жыл бұрын
I must agree with your view ,but Singer works from a 964 chassis and are jewel cars(like Horacio Pagani's vision) ,RUF has now built their own carbon tub/ chassis ,trans ,engine ,IRC ,this car could go from a daily drive directly to 'Le Mans ' track ,put on slicks and enter a GT race for the win..!!! ,with not a single part coming from the Porshe catalog or factory..!!!!!..The experience,reliability ,the expertise brought by RUF since his father's 356 is extraordinary ,I would put my money on a RUF car ,just for the pure performance POV ,also you say 'challenger' to Singer ,but with no Alois Ruf father then son, building Porsche base cars since the late 50"/ 60" ,there would be no Singer Porsche ,two completely different mentality ,in terms of pure performance RUF has no challenger,and certainly not Singer ,you won't see a singer win a record at Pikes-Peak,or enter any famous races...!!....(When my favorite Porsche is not a Porsche anymore,but I do own a 1987 Carrera SC). All late generation RUF cars are unmatched ,and the CTR is one of them.
@davidhunternyc1
@davidhunternyc1 3 жыл бұрын
@@hectorherbert6585 Well said, Hector. Thank you for corrections. Yes, the history of Ruf is legendary and they certainly predate Singer. Also, like you said, they are two completely different mentalities. You're confident that Ruf would outperform Singer on the racetrack. I'm not. I would like to see a head-to-head comparison on the Nürburgring with the Ruf & Singer? Let's get Chris Harris to do it. In fact, let's just stop the chatter and get these two cars together for any type of comparison. People have different reasons for loving cars. There are people who want to race them and those that don't. I'm in the later camp. I would love to go to driving school and learn how to drive competently on a race track but I would choose the Singer because it's an automotive masterpiece. A Porsche by Singer is perfection made manifest.
