I’m so happy you covered this game Jirard. The House of the Dead games have given me so much enjoyment over the years, but even I must admit there’s something truly special about 2. The combination of fun action and over the top cheesiness makes it such a great title, and with it also came Goldman, a bargain bin villain who could give the great Albert Wesker a run for his money with delightfully cringey dialogue and dialed up to 11 megalomania. I can’t wait to see what you cover next on the channel.

Are you sure? I distinctly remember seeing the year 1998 in the intro of the Sega Dreamcast port. I haven't played HOTD2 in a very, very long time but I have owned it since the day it launched on the Dreamcast 9/9/99. That was an amazing time to be alive. It was a 200 dollar console that could punch so far above its weight class it was ridiculous. It ran toe-to-toe with the best gaming PC's of the time...at least for the first 6 months. Both my roommate and I (first time living without parents) each bought Sega Dreamcasts the day it launched. We wound up buying 10 games that first day (5 each) and only had two duplicates *Soul Caliber and NFL2K. We each picked up 3 controllers as well which worked great as we threw a huge party that night that ended up consuming the entire weekend. Addendum- You might be wondering- Why would you buy two of the same game for the same household long before that became a requirement? He preordered his Dreamcast from EB and I from Toy's R' Us. We both picked them up after work...in hindsight I should have rang his cell and coordinated things a bit better but it did enable everyone to enjoy both 2K and Soul Caliber a lot more than if we only had one of each (8 playing NFL 2K at once and 4 playing Soul Caliber at once). Yes, it was damn cool and something I have replicated in my home today on a much grander scale with my fiancee who is a gamer like me.

If I remember correctly HOTD2 takes place in 1998. It was released in 1998 for the Sega Dreamcast in Japan and here in the US on 9/9/99. I know about the latter date as it was one of the many games my roommate and I purchased the day the Dreamcast dropped. That was a fun day which led us both to call into work and invite a boatload of people to our apartment for some epic Dreamcast playing. It turned into a 3 day weekend for us and was well worth it. Since we each bought our own Dreamcast we had both setup in the living room. 8 controllers, 10 games between us, with only two duplicates (Soul Caliber and NFL2K) it was a blast. We mostly ran 4 man NFL2K matches and Soul Caliber tourneys all night with some HOTD2 scattered in there for good measure.
