I read Rolly Crump’s book. He spoke about how he replaced original wood objects with fiberglass. He also recycled some discarded things and put some fresh paint on it. He also went down town to the local thrift shop and picked up a few pieces. The only difference is that there was no social media and no Disney Adults back then. With today’s prices that some people are willing to pay, you do think that some effort would be put into it.

you are correct about the revenue per square foot, as a former Disney Merchandise Manager, I can confirm, it and it is call Per Capita Spending or "PerCap" for short. There is a budget per each person who enters the park to spend. The Percap spending is calculated by each shop's Revenue budget divided by that day's park attendance. If a shop has a budget of 10k and there are supposed to be 20k visitors expected that day then the shop's or food location's percap is $.50. Not every guest will buy something of course, but that would be the average. If a for some reason the attendence is far lower (for example when all our attendence at the parks worldwide dropped after 9/11 because people were afraid of air travel in the after months) then it's possible to still meet a percap budget, even if they don't meet the full Revenue budget if there's far less people who visit that day due to extenuating circumstances, as long as the shop/food location sells enough product. The pressure on management to meet these budgets is insane! I still have nightmares about it even though I haven't worked there in over a decade.

Your show today was way over the top, and you thought way too much. Please consider redoing this show; you are 98% wrong. Good morning, everything is AI now, it’s 2024. The building at the exit of the haunted mansion is not new at all. In fact, it was Walt Disney in 1963 who approved the building's shape. Why you ask, the building shape is very similar to Walt’s barn. So it is your kit company that has copied Disney, what is wrong with you people. Do you have any idea about the history of Disneyland? We know already that Vash surely does not. Now that building that other companies have copied, was to be for the Museum of the Weird, by Rolly Crump. It was to open with the Mansion in 1969. Okay not a gift shop, but certainly would have sold something. When Walt passed in 1966, so did the Museum of the Weird project. My one and only disappointment with this building, and the only part, is the fact that Disney has missed an opportunity to at least show some of Rolly’s projects. I think that this would have added to the inside, sure. Why you are nuts about the size of the building is beyond me. When you are in the Haunted Mansion queue, look back at the gift shop, and it looks so small. The current size of the building is fine, it was approved by Walt Disney. If you want your channel to be a gossip channel like The View, then I’m out.
@cboncle43526 күн бұрын
walt aproved it's existence but not the placement or even it's size, it's like saying that they should torn down the castle to build space mountain on it, stop using walt will to justify dammages to the park, i know peoples who used to work for WDI and who left, most of them don't recognise anymore the effort and talent put into new projects. Peoples forget too fast what disneyland used to be, a place of perfection in it's design as much for the beauty than it's story and coherence, everything is thinked about methodicaly, so if even peoples who have no notion in scenography or design start to say there are problem IT'S THAT THERE IS. This new space including the queue sucks for multiple reason (although that doesn't mean i'm against a shop or a new queue) : -buildings in disneyland are all built 3/4 the size, this one isn't, and for a shed it's a very bad choice -the building and queue is not cleverly "aged" (i know walt said that HM should look maintained outside) but that doesn't mean it have to look like it's made out of plastic, if you go to fantasyland for exemple building colors aren't pristine and it's have been painted with darker shades to make it look older. -the music sucks, we cannot even talk about music, when you design a theme park area the music must be either immersive (coming out of a phonograph, or a band from the time period playing) or either ambient (faint natural sound or wind bells) keep the big music scores for the rides, but the problem is that the music of the area isn't appropriate, there are some exeption like when the area is centered on a film but most of the time it feels out of place. -the inside of the shop isn't well made on a design standpoint, the roof looks 1000x dammaged than the walls and the walls are painted with a bland unimaginative purple color that looks too new -the fact they used ai is a problem because disney own the reputation of preserving old arts and craftmenship, like lettering artist up to mural painter, it constitute a safe zone for jobs who are dying, it preserve culture. -props in the shop too looks nonsensical with object who are new with old looking object scattered on shelves like an imitation of previous works done, it doesn't feel real or authentic if you try to compare in terms of ambience or esthetic these additions with works done in the 1990s or even early 2010 by disney it's pretty clear we are heading down a pit, disney just isn't interested anymore and it's gonna cost them a lot in the future.
