Thank you. I had replaced burner rods and igniter and still did not clear the code 11. Took the fan out and spun it a bit. No debris or obstructions. Unit is working again. I had already cleaned the burner, orifices and previous flame rods to no avail. Wife and kids think I’m a hero now.

Thanks Mike, you saved the day today! Texas has geikos, too. Two in the fan and it sounded like a bass guitar with a big amp! When I opened it up this morning and saw all those wires with the fan buried underneath, I closed it right up. Took maybe 15 minutes to fix after seeing your high quality video. Thanks again!

Thank you -- had a code 10 on an RL75 interior unit and had the problem of hot water running cold after a few minutes. Cleaned out blower that was full of dead stuff. Saw a bit of debris in the exhaust line as well and cleared it. I couldn't figure out how to disconnect the blower, but was able to clean it out without disconnecting (with power off). So far, hot showers. A local plumber wanted $850 to clean the unit with no guarantee it would solve the problem or $4200 for a new unit. I had descaled a few times and cleaned out the water filter, but the blower cleanup seems like it's solved the problem. THANK YOU!

This is great Mike. I wish I had found it sooner! I watched someone do it once and have since cleaned mine out 20+ times (lots of trees covering, in Central Texas, and thus lots of roaches getting into the unit). I'm amazed at how little of an obstruction causes faults. I have a new fan assembly that I'm going to put in this weekend, as it's clean now but still throwing code 10's. I've had the cover off for a bit to try to get better airflow, and it seemed to help for a while. I think that motor just might be tired after the obstructions and crud around the blower fan, which I have thoroughly brushed, but the additional friction might have taken its toll.. Also want to mention- I have no idea what I'm talking about and just cowboying this thing into working with a wire brush. Biggest reason for the new $90 blower assembly besides the motor potentially crapping out is the screw holes are no longer biting from my repeated use of them- have been performing this procedure regularly for years now and I'd imagine they're not meant for that.

FWIW, the time I 'watched someone do it' was a plumber I paid $180 to do this process, not long after it was installed.

Got my assembly swapped today. MAN that fan box (the part the fan and motor came out of in this video) is tough to get out. Is only 4 screws but they're in tough spots. If anyone's going down that road, I suggest putting the screws in on the 'tab' side first when putting in the new one, as it's next to impossible without a second set of hands to get the fan box lined up for the screws going into the burner housing if you don't. I ended up having a small, more flexible extension attached to a beefier extension on my impact driver, manipulating the head with a hook and fingers back through the weeds of the harnesses and pipes. Am not an expert, and there could be a less painful way! EDIT: repeat code 10's, have roaches getting into the blower unit. Thinking blower motor is shot so I ordered a new unit. Shot some air into the burner unit when I had the fan box off and vacuumed, through the fan hole, repeating a few times and definitely got some crud. Probably will have to pull the burner one of these days. Am hesitant as it looks like they can be tough to get free, but will give it a whirl if I need to now that I've found this channel.

I have a Rinnai E110EN combi boiler that's about 10 years old. It's started making a loud squeal (like loud brakes) on startup. It lasts about 2 to 3 seconds and goes away. The unit works fine other than that. I'm in Maine, BTW

Do you have a video on the rur160ip fan replacement? I'm told it's a 15 min fix. Got 1 to put on next week. Thanks

Hi Mike: my Rinnai RL75iP has the problem as you described on your video which is very helpful, it's 12 years old now. What if I want or have the professional replace the V65iP model which has the lower price. Is it as simple as remove the old RL and replace with V65 with the same piping and connectors.. Thank you
@TheBuddylab4 жыл бұрын
With the V6.5 you need to buy a valve kit I would not recommend using the old valve kit. So the price difference is only about $150.00 plus the RL7.5 is a better unit. There would be some piping you would have to do and changing the vent but it not that hard. Mike

Hi Mike great videos they always help me maintain my R75-LSi . I'm having a difficult time finding replacement fan they say it's discontinued I have been given options but the connecter is different. Mine is the 4 pin that plugs directly to motor housing no harness. All I see is harness ones. Any help would be appreciated. Keep posting great content.

When replacing the fan on a internal unit do I need to turn the gas off as well as unpluggin the power? Thanks!

Our tankless is mounted to the garage side of our guest bedroom wall and it's really loud inside the bedroom. Seems the fan is louder than it ought to be. I just had it out to address the moths + dust + code 10 error and the fan had a tiny clip on one vane. It looked like they put it there for balancing the cage so I left it. I'm just wondering if there's a better quality fan I could put in there that's not so loud. I'm sure I could pull the unit off the wall and mount it on vibration dampers, but that's a lot of plumbing and these things are supposed to be quiet.

Mr Mike , I used your video a few years ago to fix my water heater, I found 7 dead little lizards I cleaned it, vacuum it and it worked. Now the have the same problem but this time I found one lizard cleaned it put it back together and still doesn’t work the water heater doesn’t make sound like it usually does I felt like the fan was not spinning . So I took the fan out again but this time while the fan was out I connected all the wires to see if it spins and it does spins so I put it back on and still doesn’t work while it’s fully mounted the fan doesn’t sound like it’s spinning while it’s mounted . Any advice ?

Hey, Are you in Saint Augustine, FL? I want to install a Rinnai myself but I don't know if St John's allows a home owner to do it himself. I will find out on Monday, if they would give me a permit. Anyway, I could always use your help. Thanks...

I hate these models, if you have to replace the blower housing it’s a nightmare since the there’s two screws that screw in from the side left, only 2 inches of room. The bottom right screws are just as bad as you have to access them from 6 o clock with the copper pipes in the way. Thank you for these informative videos.
