Couple of remarks - comparing inaccurate Samsungs movie mode to accurate cinema on LG is a bit pointless. It doesn’t show what LG is capable of only how Samsung oversaturated colors. Secondly - with reflections being in the picture - Samsung loses color saturation to the point it looks under saturated compared to LG accurate mode? I mean that shows how much contrast gets a hit. Whilst on LG we don’t see reflections when colors are present, only when blacks. Gloss wins no doubt. Not to mention reflections and picture are at different focal lengths - which means it’s easy to lock your eyes on the picture and totally ignore reflections - unless they are too strong and attract our focus more than picture itself. I adore your hdr videos man. Well done putting them with similar reflections also. You might be first who managed to do so. It’s fun to watch.

@@zelko0768 Samsung's Oleds, well at least since the S90/95C and this S95D as well are very accurate in filmmaker mode especially after a calibration. It's simply pointless to compare two TVs in anything other than their most accurate picture modes, you'll simply see each manufacturers approach to manipulating the picture - that doesn't tell you which TV is better. To learn that, you'd have to get them as accurate as you can and play demanding content (= very bright content with wide color gamut and/or high color saturation, scenes with high dynamic range and very high/very low APL scenes) that's where the wheat separates from the chaff. Regarding showing the coating; VillaMan did a decent job capturing the reflections on camera there but to fairly compare them, they have to be at the same angle towards the camera! Put them right next to each other or on top of one another otherwise we have no idea how the reflection of one TV would actually look like on the other.

Man, I can tell you, the C1 looks magnificent only in low-light conditions or at night, but it's completely useless during the daytime because of its low brightness. I can't play my games because my eyes get tired and start tearing up after an hour from staring at the TV and straining my eye muscles in a bright living room, plus the reflective panel makes things worse. I just switched to S95D a week ago, man I can tell you it's worth the money. people who said reflective panel looks "cooler" and more elegant. I can tell they didn't own those TV and just assume matte screen looks "cheap" compared to crystal panel. Nobody wants a big and expensive reflective stupid panel in a bright living room.

I mean I get the LG fan boys. But my TV cannot be setup anywhere other than directly opposite of 3 giant windows. Additionally, it needs a stand because the wall is a type of solid stone and I can't retro actively add gutters. With those facts, the Samsung makes sense.
@whitecrowuk5755 ай бұрын
Lg fanboys or not - matte is a disaster. In any ambient light you lose contrast - what’s the point of having qd oled if you lose the contrast and color intensity as presented here. Gloss only has problem with direct reflections - matte with any even off angle light sources. I would go for it if it was gloss. So either G4 or waiting another year as Sony pricing is ridiculous.
@montanax81275 ай бұрын
@@whitecrowuk575 Reflected lights are simply more obtrusive. People don't care about contrast if 4 giant white squares are blocking content. You know what's worse than a washed out pixel? A literal white reflection of your window. In darkness, there is no noticeable difference. So you still get all the advantages of qd OLED under that scenario. A movie night is still going to look amazing. So it's really about the daylight scenario and what you prefer. Matte is just more practical for the average consumer and gamer. Because I like to see wtf I'm doing when I'm playing a dark game.

I currently have an old Pioneer Plasma with 55" with reflection coating (as the LG G4 coating), I'm very distracted by the light reflection contours on the TV. I rather have less contrast. What was not discussed here, is that Samsung has a separate connection box (different video inputs, audio output, which can be hidden in the furniture below the TV (you only see 1 cable). Another point that is not discussed, is calibration of the colours. I hate so far the oversaturated colours of the OLED displays. The first thing I want to do is, scale down the color saturation to a natural levels. Or calibrate the screen.

@@EDGARGARCIA-pj2vd lol, ok, troll . QD OLED DOES look better (I have a Sony QD OLED, too) . But not 10 times better. Maybe 20% better. And the LG definitely doesn't look dull.

Interesting video - thanks. I've gone 65" S95D. To replace a 6 year old 55" LG. But at this price, I am getting Samsung calibrated.

Question: Would you be able to measure/compare APL capabilities of those sets?. In higher APL scenes we lose brightness which means lower contrast and lowers the depth perception - so that is as important as pure blacks, more important than peak brightness alone. A lot of people say G4 is brighter in real content - that is probably due to higher APL (or worse Samsung tone mapping). Perhaps the combination of inky blacks that WOLED has and higher APL than ever before (it apparently draws 30% more energy over G3 and can heat up the room) - could unlock this 3D pop people are talking about. Perhaps it’s not only thanks to better processing but higher overall picture brightness. Possibly they have crossed this threshold of contrast/brightness where objects stand out to our eyes. Would love for someone to compare APL to see the difference between them. Ps. I know you compared subjectively APL here but this was in incompatible modes - inaccurate Samsung and accurate LG. You would need to load up min 2000 or 4000 nit content and see them on both what it looks like in bright scenes.

The Samsung is really good. I've had both (C2 and S95B), and I prefer the Samsung display. The matte finish would be great in my bright living room.

That’s crazy! The s95d looks better in a darker environment compared to the G4 but the G4 looks way better to me in a brighter room really shows how the right kinda light can ruin the s95d pretty color all because of the matted screen…😢

I have both the S90C and S95D. I must be living in an alternate universe, because the matte screen is amazing - I can now game with lights Also, the S95D is significantly better than my S90C in every way, I am just shocked that it seems I am the only one who sees this. I have calibrated, and used the settings on both extensively. It just isn't close at all.

@@loopcx3761 Not in my experience. The matte screen has allowed .e to finally game with lights on and I see no degradation

What size screen do you have? The 55 and 65 inch S90's mostly were 1st gen panels. the 77inch was a guaranteed 2nd gen panel which was much improved. My S89C is very close to the S95C.
