i used to have one of those gateway monitors, it was a pretty good display for what it was, it was solid with the metal stand and the picture was pretty good. two things to know is that if the area where the touch buttons are, if they get dirty enough the buttons can activate on their own leading to the menu popping up and the thing turning itself off and things like that. the other and bigger issue that I had with it was that the capacitors on the power supply board failed. they used CapXon brand capacitors and they went bad, of course that is easy to fix. I sold it with a computer i sold a while back and i would assume it is still working if the people are still using that old XP machine I sold them about 3 years ago. I use a CRT as my main display or i would have kept it.

Broken laptops are an incredible source for working panels. So beside the panel, you'd need a (universal) LCD controller board and a LVDS cable to connect the panel to that board. Since the board that came with the monitor is unlikely to drive a panel of different making. Both found for cheap on ebay, amazon, you name it. These boards usually require 12V power, so a power brick is necessary too, chances are you already have a few spares, they're extremely common. The new controller board has its own IO, so some cutting into the plastic might be necessary to make space. A rotary tool can get rid of excess plastic in the blink of an eye. If you want the face buttons to work, then there are buttons that work with said controllers, to be found on the same sites. Or, Method B: you somehow find a panel that is compatible with the board you already have, but that's the more costly method in most cases, but it's less work.

The Chrome on it was so obsolete, the Play store just laughed at me when I tried to download anything. I ended up donating it to my local thrift store...

Goodwill sells their monitors at $10(assuming there is no sale), regardless of resolution, size, or if all the ports work or not. The only difference I've seen is if it's got a coaxial and/or full composite/component ports with speakers, then it's considered a small TV and sold at $30. I've got 2 secondary monitors for $20 around a week ago and both work perfectly using the DVI ports on my 1050TI. This might be good for another video, but whenever Goodwill gets desktop computers they sell them at $50 if they are working with an OS out of the box or $30 if it doesn't have an OS or storage device installed, considering they also sell keyboard and mice at $4 each, you can have an entire entry-level gaming setup for about $98(I was using the price of the GT730 due to it being cheap, it only using 25W of power, and it being LP) only shopping at Goodwill and getting the graphics card and HDD on eBay. Also, great find on the capture card! I have an HD60S, and I got a composite to HDMI adapter on Amazon for $15 to record stuff off my Wii and OG Xbox. Which was I assumed most YTers use until recently.

@@TheSaltyExplorer I've got some old Dell 17" monitors and there's VESA mounting holes under the space for the stands, for a fact since they're now mounted on a four monitor VESA arm. The actual Dell stands don't use the VESA screw holes. The stand you describe sounds like the stands on these monitors.

The backpack is official. I had the same one, ordered it through a seasonal catalog I got while being subscribed to Nintendo Power.

Why didn't you use the VESA stand from that $1 dell one

Is the dell stand not Vesa compatible? That was my first instinct 🤔
