The #1 Reason the Canon R5 Mark II is the BEST Camera in 2025

I’m lucky enough to be able to shoot with both systems over the past several years (Canon and Sony). If I had to pick one overall camera, it would be the Canon R5 mkII. Fantastic ergonomics and splendid autofocus. I do wish Canon allowed third party lenses into the full frame RF system though.

Why? I have Canon and Sony and the A1 is faster than the R5II and the R5II has bad IBIS and overheating. The A1 also does not stop shooting when the buffer fills up.

I'm about 2/3 photos (wildlife, landscapes, portraiture) and 1/3 video (nature, travel--but not vlogging style, friends' kids bdays and sports). I traded in my R6ii for an R5ii mostly because of the improvement in AF, increase in MPs, and faster burst shooting to help with my photos. What I wasn't prepared for is how much better I like CLog2 over CLog3, and also how great the unadvertised second ISO of 4000 performs for video. Yes it's not as noise free as a true dual base ISO might perform, but it's pretty darned close.

I haven't been brave enough to shoot CLOG2 yet. I'm still new to editing. My video is getting much better. I shoot a lot of whales. My most recent was Orcas. The weather was perfect. The water was so blue. I shared a portion of the video on SM. Even though the video was shot RAW, I did not edit any color grading. Sometimes, actually, most of the time, the conditions are foggy. My question is, would you still shoot CLOG2 when photographing ocean life? As a hobbyist enthusiast, your videos have been so helpful in my journey. Thank you.

Well you should do what you’re most comfortable with. If you want to have the best possible footage, clog 2 will give you the advantage, just follow the steps for each clip on Premiere pro. If you dont plan on using a video editor, standard color will be the best in that situation

Definitely shoot in clog2! You don't even have to color grade. Download and apply one of canon's LUTs. I recommend using the wide Dr clog2 to bt709 one. It will look beautiful right then. And if you want to adjust afterward, you can!

Thanks for sharing your workflow. But honestly, I think the style is more beginner than pro if I do say so myself... way too much... try to go half as fast... sometimes less is more... at least in my opinion. All the best from Austria.

Do you know what the dual iso range for log2 is. I know 800 and is it 3200 or 4000 iso?

Yes! It’s 4000 and I touched on the topic before but the low light video performance on the R5ii is miles ahead of where the R5 and R6 were

So you do need a cf express card ? I used it just a SD card for pics and it worked fine

For shooting long bursts in wildlife at 30fps, the cf express card is 1000x better, the sd card works too you just cant shoot as long and theres a longer buffer meaning the chance of missing a shot is greatly increased

@@MrIowahawks77 Get the Delkin Gen 4.0 cards. B&H has the 512 for about 199, the 1 tb for 299.... They're much faster. The main benefit is faster download speeds but you'd need USB4 card reader and PC

Really comes to workflow over all, I have never owned a Sony camera but I do know my friend Jake Sloan has switched to R5ii from Sony and loves it. He still uses sony cinema cameras though
