I’m going to buy one tomorrow. 35 yrs in the trade and shoulders have had it and had to semi retire. Wish I’d had one years ago.! Cheers for a cracking video

Hello Blaine, I'm not a plasterer, but as a general builder, I had times where I needed a plasterer for small areas, but couldn't get one in the required time frame, so I had a go myself, with reference to your videos and others on the Tube. The jobs came out all right, so I carried on with ever increasing confidence. I've just completed a 32 sq metre stairwell wall in a big Victorian house with high ceilings, with home made Fred Dibnah style wooden scaffolding which you quickly have to erect then remove to do top and bottom in one hit. It was hard and hectic but the results were more than acceptable, the customer was very happy. I'd love to see a video on your stairwell technique. Thank you so much for putting all this out, it's much appreciated.

They are an excellent bit of kit and not too pricey … took me 3 or 4 walls to get comfortable with it

Great little refresher video. Going to be tackling my third ever full wall (still fairly small though) tomorrow. Been a really useful tool so far along with the sponge float. After dropping the money on the Speedskim and a Refina flex trowel I finally bought a 14" Marshalltown permashape as an upgrade from my 11" cheapo trowel that came with a bunch of others for less than 15 quid. Looking forward to trying that out. Your videos have helped me go from never having skimmed before to getting shockingly good results even on the first day.

Another great video Blaine. Got 2 speedskim myself, plastic and flexi steel 1.2m. Makes doing massive walls and ceilings so effortless. Barely needs a trowel after a couple of passes with those.

Nice job mate. Have you tried the steel blades yet for the speedskim ? I don't do allot of plastering so I'm not very quick at putting it on.. iv been told that metal blades in my speedskim would be better for me as it won't set the plaster off as quick. If you could do I video for the metal blades that would be muchly appreciated.. thanks

I like the Steel blades but you can't use them in the early stages. Check out the video below - it shows which stage to use the Steel Speedskim. I think you'll like it pal 👍 kzbin.info/www/bejne/sKvRqHiQe9l3f9k

Hi Blaine, I’ve just bought a speedskim sf, it’s the metal blade, does it really matter if it’s plastic or metal? What do you think difference is? I’m struggling to get used to it aswell, I’ve used trowels for 18 years,
@AngusRobins2 жыл бұрын
Yup, got one of these too, following a recent comment from Blaine about the plastic blade causing slightly too quick drying and recommending the SF.

I just got an airless sprayer for painting so I'm keen to see plastering with it. Vevor 1800w brushless airless sprayer. (£175) Graco PC contractor pro gun. (£210) Graco tips. (£30 each.) It's all about the gun and tips! Graco and Wagner pumps are overpriced! Pump armour is just engine coolant at 50/50 mix. Subscribed last week and bought a speedskim yesterday still waiting for delivery. I will round the edges like you said.

That sounds good man. My mate has one and they are real game changers. Yeah, it's worth rounding the edges pal - it does help 👍

I agree with the opening up the angle I think that’s how is designed to to be used to avoid those raised lines just back of the tip of the blade. I reckon there there to keep the blade straight but would drag material off the wall or ceiling if they get involved in the pass!
@PlasteringForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
The ridges help to spread the plaster but I must admit mine are completely worn out now. I think it's better without them. Thanks for the comment mate 👍

Indeed. I have noticed that both the speedskim and foam float speeds up the setting time? I can only suggest that this process opens up the grain more to allow air to cure?
@PlasteringForBeginners3 жыл бұрын
Exactly that pal - it opens the plaster which speeds the reaction. It's solved if you close the plaster back with your steel trowel.

I need some advice i can put plaster on wall easy but flattening is near impossible for me I'm going to buy a speedskim which will be easier for me the 1200mm or 1800 mm I worked for a plaster as a labourer for 5 years I know the basics and have been watching your vidios I dont wont any smaller than 1200mm as I'd find more lines to sort which is always my problem please advise kind sir
