A lot of the songs that have been featured in this series have clear rhythmic structures even with time signature changes, the rhythm remains clear. Finding a good drummer is usually the hardest part of forming a band. The fact that y'all are trying to produce more drummers for the world is awesome!
@ML8078 ай бұрын
I was so impressed by this. Just the facility with the instrument to flow through that on the spot is amazing.
@ttoctam37 ай бұрын
You can tell he drums for a completely different genre, because he is so generous to the rest of the music with his style. Like, he drums in a way that lets guitar and lyrics be highlighted, whereas the original Gojira is a way bigger presence in the track.

So much respect to these drummers for taking on these challenges. Really enjoy this series

For those that don’t know, Gojira is a band that uses lots of complex polyrhythms. This song was no exception…it’s just that he picked out the steady 4/4 back beat, changing the whole feel in a pretty cool way
@tylerfish93910 ай бұрын
This drum part is so creative (especially the outro) for a comparatively simpler song by Gojira standards!
@joshuahoman118410 ай бұрын
The song Stranded is in 4/4. No complex polyrhythms.

@@joshuahoman1184yes. The only quirk is the switch with the kick and snare during that main riff

Playing a Gojira song in the drums: Stranded 😊 Art of Dying 💀 Jake did a great job here! Mario Duplantier the Gojira drummer is one of the most talented drummers out there, he is a straight out robot, he dont make mistakes, just saw them live 2 months ago, what an experience, it is the same listening to them live than studio version, what a drummer experience!
@jessebeeghly36088 ай бұрын
I seen them live in August last year. And even though it was an outdoor venue. Hands down the loudest concert I’ve ever attended. And a straight up surreal experience. Would hands down see them again!!!

This is beyond awesome for you to go outside you're comfort zone. You'll grow as an artist for your attempt to play other genres. You killed it brother! 🔥

I really like how as the song progressed he got more confident to add his own finesse to it, such great creativity in his playing and an awesome job creating so much feel! Also his drum tones are freaking amazing

Technically not VERY difficult on the drums, but for someone to come up with the drums from a first listen, especially if you're not familiar with Gojira... It's really difficult! Kudos for the cool fills and the tight ending! Good job!

Really loved some of those fills and the grooveyness from 8:32 onwards was amazing!

The groove got me, I was moving my head along at the moment you mentioned. I'm so impressed by this cover, the song is so hard to even grasp, yet this drum cover is extremely good.

One of the best things of this series to me is, that I've get to know great musicians! Humble, song serving drummers, like this nice guy here.

These videos are dope, showing metal drummers other stuff was cool but it’s even cooler seeing country and jazz drummers playing complex metal stuff. I’d never thought “hey, the drummer for like combs is pretty damn good”, but now I got a whole new pov of his musicianship, the artist, and the genre as a whole.
@lizzyr.15418 ай бұрын
stranded is an absolute beast of a song as is, so seeing a drummer completely outside of the metal realm to take on the challenge is super cool! it's fascinating watching his expressions change between grooving and focusing as he works through the funky time changes

I'm a bassist and got into this series with Larnell Lewis playing Metallica and immediately subscribing was one of the best decisions I ever made. I love seeing the notification for these. Great work, Mr Sommers. And great work, Drumeo.
@SteveForteGMR10 ай бұрын
That was the first Drumeo video I saw, too. Just the idea of getting a drummer playing something from a different genre that they hadn't heard before was enough to get me subbed. And they've just got better and better. Even got me watching some Larnel Lewis and Snarky Puppies videos and that's not a genre I go for.

This series is honestly so cool, it's awesome to see everyone's different takes on songs that we seem to already know so well, and to hear how they sound with different ideas. It's also great to see people out of their comfort zone. I wanna see someone try meshuggah someday haha

This series is great. I am not a drummer but this definetely helped me to found new levels of respect for these guys. Those small interactions and discussions help to see the person, who for sure is not just a guy behind drums. Great concept and great talent on the show. Btw for a mostly country drummer i think he did realy good. The difference between 1st and 2nd take was huge. He can be proud.

Might be one of my favorites from this series. Bravo! This is a beast to try and figure out with lack of cues and (verse 2) where guitar isn’t present and bass and ambience is the only thing guiding you with vocal phrases every few measures.. I am highly impressed at your take on this song having never heard it! Luke Combs is lucky to have you in his band!
@michaelsmyth271210 ай бұрын
Love this series, so interesting to hear what a drummer stylistically worlds apart from Mario interprets the song as. He definitely took inspiration with the ride from Blind by Korn which is funny as I never heard a Korn style in the riff until now. I want to see someone from jazz do Art of Dying please!

11:12 - 11:22 is such a country drummer question. But I respect it so much. Because country drumming is so in pocket and so precise night after night.

I've never listened to Gojira, despite how popular they are in the scene, so I have no frame of reference on what their drummer's style is, but I have to say - Jake did a great job! It's so far removed from his normal comfort zone and style, but he filled the song in nicely and really found his stride in the end. Impressive skill that he doesn't normally get to showcase.

I need to listen to Gojira a lot more. This is a great track. Also, it's pretty cool to briefly see Tracy Chapman's "Fast Car" is finding a lot of new ears in the Country music fandom (at least that's what it sounded like JC was playing live in the cutaway clips).
