Never enough time for all of them. Gene Hogland taught himself how to play double bass just by doing the hypothetical footwork with one of his feet on the hi hat. Like, it was pure theory. One day he hops on a drum set with double bass, and just starts nailing it right off the bat. Dave Lombardo hears him, asks him how long he's played double bass. "First time." He was hired by Dave as his own drum teacher. That's unfathomable. Training your muscle memory to the idea that doing it elsewhere will create a sound....?! Plus Gene is around a hundred feet tall, and built like a tank. And he wears leather boots.
