I would like to mention that Michael Adams that season was on the Denver Nuggets, coached by Paul Westhead. Westhead famously uses a version of "The System," most recently popularized by Grinnell College. If you look at all of the teams that Westhead coached, specifically Loyola Marymount College in the 80s, you will see the absolutely ridiculous scoring numbers they put up. Michael Adams was put in a quick and high tempo offense in which he thrived in. Also notable, is that under Westhead's coaching, Orlando Woolridge put up over 25 points per game that year at age 31, and Walter Davis averaged an incredible 18.7 points per game at age 36. Although his Nuggets weren't good, Westhead coach the Lakers to their first championship with Magic and Kareem in 1980, and also winning a WNBA championship in 2007 with the Phoenix Mercury, making him the only coach in history to win both titles. Just thought this was an interesting bit of information!

@@jonnyarnett No problem Jonny. Huge fan of your videos. If you want to dig deeper into this rabbit hole of Paul Westheads incredible career, I highly recommend it. The year before he became the Nuggets head coach, he coached at Loyola Marymount university, where they were averaging 122 points per game as a team, but sadly, their second best player, Hank Gathers, collapsed during a game and passed away later due to injury. They dedicated their season to Gathers, making an incredible run in the NCAA tournament as an 11 seed, highlighted by a 149-115 win to the defending champion Michigan Wolverines. Truly magical

He was almost even playing defense! He was dishing out tons of assists, and had a damn 38-piece against the Lakers. It was a month straight of something we had never seen before: an Asian kid that was going nuts, and by game 3 had a target in his back, and he KEPT going bonkers for 6 more games. I don't think injuries had much to do with Okafor's "decline." By Okafor's third season, it became clear that Embiid was a much better player and so he was prioritized. Okafor entered the league the same year the Warriors won their first title. There just wasn't room for a pure back-to-the-basket big who wasn't mobile on defense. The only reason he got so much run his rookie season is because Embiid was still coming back from injury. Plus, the Sixers were terrible and would have given lots of touches to any rookie they'd drafted top 5. But there was lots of talk about how he didn't actually make the team any better even then. Even Noel was having more positive impact due to his rim protection and effective role as a lob finisher. Had Okafor become a better rebounder, worked on his 3pt shot, or become even an average defender there would have been a place for him in the league. But given that he didn't improve on any of those things, there was never going to be room for a guy you had to run the offense through who didn't provide much else. His post-ups weren't even particularly efficient.

Did he also not provide much offensively if the ball wasn’t in his hands, and could he finish? And is 51% from the field inefficient?

This goes for a lot of players. Where their rise is basically "we just gave him a ton of time and shots because we had nobody better around" basically what Linsanity kinda was too

@@OK-yy6qzThat seems to be what is implied if someone is said to have put up empty stats. Ergo: On a better team, they don’t get the playing time to put up the per game averages they did. I’d take it most players like that can’t defend either?

If you have Jeremy Lin on this list, you should also have included TJ Warren in the bubble

Since Richard Dumas was on your radar, I love to get the 2nd video with him and others. That guy was like the prototypical wing of today, way back in '93.

Interesting correlation between most of these is that they were on tge shorter side as NBA players.

well, there's Bill Walton - not quite "one hit" but close. After a phenomenal championship season, he was never the same because of injuries, though he did have that comeback year with the Celtics as a 6th man in their championship run.

I think a common theme here were all these players on a bad team. Aside from Dana Barros most of them scored with poor efficiency or didn't play much defense
@fortynights1513 Жыл бұрын
Some of them may have been ok if used in a reduced role, but were inefficient as a team’s top scorer. Michael Adams’ season in particular is one of the least efficient seasons for the number of points per game he scored. He still put up those per game averages, but on an average team he might not have gotten the shots to do so. Probably the worst such season I’ve come across though is Jamal Mashburn in 1996-97 (23.4 points per game on 37.9% field goal percentage, and on a losing team). Mashburn had a solid career but never scored that much again.

Remember that time Victor Oladipo put up 23.1 ppg and was..... An All-star, All-NBA 3rd team, All-defensive 1st team, and most improved player??? Oh, and came within 4 points of knocking LeBron out in the 1st rd of the playoffs??? Yeah it was injuries, but he went from role player to megastar to forgotten in less than 5 years.
