I only have three strikes against me of the 10. Dehydration, not having proper nutrition and not warming up. My last two runs have been right before dinner and they have been much better than my morning runs. I think partly because I'm better hydrated and have more nutrition in and certainly warmed up from all the activity I had throughout the day. The trouble is all of our races are always in the morning so I need to pay more attention to all three. Thanks for the video!

For saving on shoes, you can get all of the top- off- the- line brands for $60-90. Just research what types you want, and have that list in mind while you hunt the clearance sections online. I've bought Hokas, Adidas and Innov8 for about $65. I've also gotten like-new Salomans and Hokas second hand in outdoor shops for $60. Same with all my gear, I have high end running/ mountaineering equipment that cost a fraction of retail. While quality gear is a must, going broke to buy it isn't. And i had no idea it took so long to rehydrate after long runs/ races! Very good to know!

If you want to spend less on shoes buy last year’s model. Today you can get Nike Pegasus 38 for perhaps 20% cheaper than Pegasus 39. The incremental updates are usually not worth the premium. Keep an eye out for when new models come out and you will find good deals. Peg 40 comes out in April, so stores will put Peg 39 on sale in the Spring to clear out inventory.

With regard to #2, yes, buy good quality footwear, but be aware that price isn't always in step with quality in today's mega-million dollar shoe industry. I bought a pair of minimalist/barefoot shoes for *forty bucks* (WHITIN) and now a couple years later they're still working great. I'm sure $120 Altras and Xeros are very nice, too, but one doesn't need to spend that much money to get a good pair of shoes. On #10...this is why I try to go trail running whenever possible. If I run on the road, I do indeed just cruise along at a single speed. But on a trail (especially singletrack through the woods) I'm forced to change my pace because of the steep ascents, steep descents, navigating hairpin turns, crossing creeks, clambering over roots and rocks, etc.

Running when you feel overly stressed on your running joints and muscles. Take time to recover and build knee muscles etc and cardiovascular by cycling and mountain biking. The switchup of fun and speed adventuring way further out versus running is a nice change of pace as well (pun pardoned).

@@gtn I do my strength training routine once every 2-3 weeks to keep a bit of extra size at my leanness level. I also do Muay Thai with my ninja trainer friend and we're both at the starting points of our KZbin channels as well. I'm going to eventually go over my Everests and tips, start tracking my Boston Marathon qualifying and getting my Marathon under 3 hours goal, then start working towards my 24 hour ride goal and thinking about Mariana Trenching and so on as well. Used to do some archery and knife throwing as well but haven't in a long while. Hope that answers that haha.

@@hymthreimnietzsson8084 Well, of course not. I can't imagine myself holding 2:50min/km 😅. But, I can hit 180+ spm cadence when I turn up the pace. It's just that I'm curious if I can hit the same pace by lengthening my stride length like his.

Whoever believes this 'footwear cushioning and supporting you' -crap needs to have all the marketing wank wiped off their windshield. Shoes can make you faster and that's fine, but if you want to run safely you will run barefoot.

If you’re like me, it’s CRITICAL that you slowly work into barefoot running to avoid initial injury. Then it’s all good
@BadassStealthFace
@BadassStealthFace Жыл бұрын
@@9danke Yes. Slowly like a child learning to walk and run. Many of us never learn to run using the foot, instead wearing shoes when learning. This leads to bastardized technique and a very real need for running technique coaching and training, even though it's the most natural thing for us.
@ivanmatic4229
@ivanmatic4229 Жыл бұрын
I'm sorry, but I believe you're giving dangerous advice here. When I was preparing for my first half marathon, I ran hundreds of kilometers in ~15$ trainers and had all sorts of foot injuries all the time, eventually even developing a knee injury. This year, I switched to Nike's Pegasus 38s (~100$), and having run nearly 600 kilometers in them, I haven't had a single injury of any kind, including blisters (not to mention the change in overall comfort). Also, my technique hasn't changed: I was a forefoot runner both in my old trainers and these new ones.
@BadassStealthFace
@BadassStealthFace Жыл бұрын
@@ivanmatic4229 Not all shoes cause injuries. Your first pair did. With no shoes at all you would have been faster to learn to use your foot.
@nk-dw2hm
@nk-dw2hm Жыл бұрын
@@BadassStealthFace you don't think with the billions invested in sports performance research every year they haven't considered trying barefoot running? Oh and what are your racing or research credentials? How many world records have you set? Ps there are tons of shoe options with minimal padding and natural heel toe rise. In the places I run (and weather) barefoot would never be an option.
