Had a Lexus GS300 for 13 years with 235k but it had lots of small issues. The engine and transmission were rock solid. After we paid off the house I was kinda hoping it would break down so I could get a newer car but the darn thing refused 😂to break down. After a positive experience with GS, we bought a used Lexus RX450h few years ago. It's a 2010 model so it's I was concerned about a hybrid battery but 3.6 years later and many miles in it with Lexus bulletproof reliability I don't even think about it. Just drive and don't worry.

5 years ago, I traded in my 2017 Infiniti Q60 which was plagued with electrical issues (including a faulty wiring harness) for a 2018 BMW M240i X-drive. The B58 engine is far superior to the Infiniti 3L V6 and the transmissions (7-speed, laggy old Nissan technology vs lightning-quick, state-of-the-art ZF 8-speed) don't even compare in terms of responsiveness. Trading in the Q60 for the M240i was the best car-buying decision I've ever made!

Given the experiences of many of my friends/colleagues they seem almost guaranteed to self-destruct the instant they exceed 100,000km and/or the warranty period. In comparison my two Alfas (with a combined age of 65 years and about 500,000km on the clock - of which my 22yo daily driver accounts for almost 300,000km) have been fantastic to own and drive. But then again, I live in Australia, where we are blessed with multiple independent Alfa specialist (non-dealer) workshops that have been in business for decades, which even new car buyers can use without voiding their warranty.

Most of these I agree with, but Volvos are not what they once used to be. They are at the bottom of the list for reliability.

Oh yay. I have a Volvo I'm thinking of changing out. The Porsche is a bit much $ for me. I have considered bmw but it's hard with bmw to know what is good and what is junk. Volvo is China now. 😪
