Won't You Be My Neighbour was simultaneously the most beautiful and uplifting film experience I've had in over 20 years, and the saddest. Because he WAS so special. He WAS just that unique and while that's the point of the film, reminding us that people with such fiercely strong and kind hearts did and still do exist in this profoundly cynical and depressingly dystopia we now live in...it's hard not to walk away from it feeling a sense of emptiness that a light of such brightness and rarity is gone forever. The world needs men and women like him now more than ever.

There’s something about those films in the bittersweet catagory that just hits my heart like few others. From Tokyo Story to Dead Poets Society to Call Me By Your Name, there’s something so powerful about how beauty, even laughter, can be used in juxtaposition to the uncertainty of life. Hell, Harold and Maude is my third favorite film of all time (the top two would be The End of Evangelion and Andrei Rublev for anyone wondering). And that’s not even to mention how many other films even shown for a second to two I love with all my heart: It’s a Wonderful Life, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, Some Like it Hot, The Apartment, Rochefort, Ernest and Celestine, Fantastic Mr. Fox, Singin' in the Rain, Totoro, Chungking Express, Once Upon a Time in America… I could just go on and on. I love a meditative and gorgeous art film as much as the next guy, but we all need something to relax to.

Ooh, I love Amelie! I saw it referenced in the manga "Detroit Metal City." The protagonist says it's one of his favorite movies, a juxtaposition to his death metal persona.

Films I would have included: Tree of Life, A Christmas Story, Grease, & Yiyi. They all approach the subjects of family & nostalgia & relationships differently.

I'm looking for great 4k transfers to add to my physical media collection. I've got a true 4k projector and want movies that make me go "Wow." My first Full HD anything (even before I got an HDTV) was a projector/blu ray combo. I want to have that feeling again of being completely blown away like watching Blade Runner, Sin City, Enter The Void, or 2001 A Space Odyssey for the first time on my setup. What are some picks any of you reading this recommend for my collection?
