Honestly I see a lot of these items as proof that not everything has to serve a practical purpose to bring joy to people’s lives. Sometimes it’s ok to make something that’s “just for the hell of it”. As long as it’s not harming anyone who cares if it’s stupid! Also the KFC romance novel sounds AI generated. 😂

I am a 28 year old man and I found out TODAY that Furbeys where seen as a girls toy. I defiantly remember having one as a kid and loving it, and I remember several of my male friends having them as well! I guess it just wasn't viewed as a girls toy over here, and like thats weird considering I grew up in the American South! youd think we'd be even more judgmental over here!
@tornadodee148
@tornadodee148 10 ай бұрын
it was considered a girl toy here but not in the same vein as like, Barbie or Bratz. Like, if a boy had a furby (that wasent a traditionally girly color) maybe some jugemental kids or adults would mock him but really most wouldnt give much side eye. maybe im talking through my hat here cuz im a girl (the target audience) but if I remember correctly Furby wasent the MOST gendered toy here in the early 2000's. Again Barbie and Bratz were the best contenders for that. (btw I live in Québec,Canada)
@sasukuto
@sasukuto 10 ай бұрын
@@tornadodee148 Thats fair. We still had allot of very gendered toys around here obviously as well. Barbies and Brats like you said. I'm a boy myself, so I got plenty of hotwheels and transformers and what not because they where very much so seen as boy toys. But I think everybody just kinda gave Furbey a pass. If I remember correctly you where much more likely to get judged for having one regardless of gender simply because of how creepy they could look, so I think maybe that just took over the bias around here haha.

Fun fact (and you can kinda see it in the clips from the "Bronies React" video you included) Gak became an in-joke within the Brony community for a while because during one of the season premieres, it was the only commercial to take up space during ad breaks. Every ad break would feature three or four ads for different types of Gak. Some would even joke that Gak was the true villain of the episode, since it ended up getting more screen time than the episode's actual villain King Sombra.

I remember flipping them upside down to get that funny emotion where one pupil was bigger than the other. Warning Disturbing Fact: Also in Furby Boom thanks to that one minigame where you need to be a surgeon to the Furby I thought the heart in the body was located left to where it actually is Ironically enough, I got a Magic 8 Ball for my 8th Birthday.

I got the 2005 furby and at first, I wasn't scared of her. I played with her often. Then one day her batteries died and I threw her on the ground after she made that buzzing sound. Then to make matters worse, the shelf where I kept my furby would always cast a shadow on her that made that toy scary. I eventually gave her up because I was too scared of the toy but now, I kinda regret it. I might get myself a smaller furby if I see one. I'm also trying to find a poo-chi as mine broke. It may look scarier than a furby but, I never was scared of it.

Great video like the usual, Strider. And by the way, can you do a list of interesting toys that was made from your country Australia? I'm kinda curious what's your opinion about Moose Toys Company, the toy company from Australia who was behind of Shopkins, Trash Pack, Grossery Gang and Treasure X. I like to know how you thinking about it, Strider

I loved my Furrbie 😂 it was red with black tips on its ears and black polkadots all over. I strangely didn't see it as creepy. Even though I do feel like my family's house back then was haunted. Although I also loved dumbo as a kid and watching it as an adult made me wonder wtf was wrong with me as a child 😂😂 I think the reason why the slinky is so popular is because it's soooo satisfying to watch it "do the thing"😮😮😮 I FORGOT ABOUT KOOSH BALLS! I loved those! They were basically the first fidget toy before fidget toys were really a thing.

I remember so many of these…and have the commercials stuck in my head. Some of them I actually still like, such as Gak and Koosh balls, and I still have my original Furby, albeit in a box in the basement somewhere. As for stupid inventions you missed, do you remember the Hillbilly Teeth? Those hideous, misshapen plastic teeth that fit over the wearer’s own teeth and were usually found in novelty stores and capsule machines? The guy who invented them made millions, just off those insulting, ugly, stupid teeth. It’s good to see Boo again! I’ve missed his cute lil’ hamster voice! And Robyn’s back too! I love it!

I think the most moronic item not mentioned here (idk if it really made millions) is the Fushigi ball. I hate the fact that i fell for a goddamn heavy metal ball that's supposedly "magic" 😤 it was literally just a heavy ball that included a DVD that would teach you how to make it magic. There were parts in the DVD where the guy teaching you would tell the viewer to buy more balls in order to make other "tricks". I just wanted to get it off my chest. I hate this product so much because I really felt tricked. P.S. Love your videos Strider your content is very entertaining

When I was young and my grandma was super into gardening, she absolutely loved Chia pets. Think of them like topiaries or decorative garden statues. My grandma couldn't do topiaries due to having health complications and the fact that when she did want some, a really bad drought had hit our area and killed most of her plants. With Chia pets though she could take them inside so they would thrive. The statues got really creative at times (I love the Indiana Jones one myself) and they were a good way to help teach my brother and I how to take care of plants. Even now my mom and I love gardening, and I honestly kind of want a couple Chia pets to put in our garden or on my windowsill. They are practically useless and are only fun for people who enjoy taking care of plants, but I think the fact that they got popular is overall a good thing. I think being able to care for plants, even if it's something as simple as grass, is a good skill to learn. This past heatwave almost killed all of the grass in our yard and in some cases when this happens, it could take years before the grass ever grows back. Yeah it's a pretty useless and kinda stupid invention, but I think kids and adults can learn a lot from taking care of Chia pets.

One Honorable Mention would be the Pet Rock. It's...a rock. An ordinary pebble in a little box with actual "care instructions" for your pet rock. I'm guessing the appeal was similar to the Chia Pet, except this one doesn't even do anything, it's just a rock!

Here in Ireland we had grass heads which were popular for some reason back in the 90s. Grass heads were kind of like the chia pets except they didn't use chia seeds but it was just grass seeds with the soil in an old pair of tights with a face drawn onto them. Once the grass started growing you used a scissors to trim the grass. Also some people would stick googly eyes onto the tights instead of drawing a face.

Yes, had those in U.K. too, it’s the sort of thing you still see in museum gift shops and novelty shops. Kids also made cress heads in an empty eggshell with a face drawn on it with a bit of kitchen roll & cress seeds inside. You could eat the cress if you wanted.

I first got a Furby for the Furby Boom app, and we discovered the lack of off buttons or voice commands. Needless to say, it became hard trying to transport it without it turning on due to bumping into something Won't lie, if the newer models have an off option, I'd consider buying one. Mainly the Tye-Dye one I LOVE Tye-dye. I even have some homemade tye shirts and a tank top! I had tye-dye pants that were also homemade, but they wore out and had to be turned into rags :(
