The thing that makes me laugh hard about the sugary cereals is that we tend to overeat the healthy ones too. The bowl we usually eat them out of is for soup not cereal. The real portion we're supposed to eat is a single ice cream scoop cup and have fruit on the side. I learned this from my doctor.

Just an FYI if you're interested. As a child, I watched the original cartoons and ate the original Fruity Pebbles (my favorite at the time) before they started adding things like marshmallows. I miss Frosted Rice Krispies. Thing is we used to have cereal when watching Saturday morning cartoons. Since most channels don't have that, kids didn't get ushered into getting up in the morning to rush to watch their favorite shows. Watching Wacky Races and other cartoons from that generation aren't the same. The only thing that came close was watching South park episode "Handicar". You noticed all the adults were in their jammy jams and grabbed a bowl of cereal.

Honestly, I'm a big fan of the dunkin donuts cereals. I can taste caramel and mocha alongside the coffee flavor, and it's nice as an occasional thing to eat. I had no idea cereal was trending downward. It's kind of disheartening as a person who grew up on having cereal in the morning, even if I do have something else for breakfast these days. I'd like to think cereal could still be kept around, but instead of a breakfast item, maybe a dessert type thing? I've seen people use it as a topping for ice cream and frozen yogurt.

I think I know one reason the Spongebob cereal didn't catch on for long. If you want a cereal with nautical marshmallows, you can get a big bag of Marshmallow Mateys, which is basically Malt-O-Meal's version of Lucky Charms. It is a lot cheaper that the SB cereal probably was, and it has a larger assortment of nautical marshmallow shapes. And it tastes at least as good as Lucky Charms.

Ugh, I loved the Sour Patch Kids Cereal! I ate them dry. They were a great snack! Unfortunately, Post was releasing so many great tasting cereals at the same time, between Oreo O’s, Mega Stuf Oreo O’s (my favorite that was sadly discontinued), Golden Oreo O’s, Chips Ahoy!, Sour Patch Kids, Nutter Butter and others to where I couldn’t support them all at the same time. When they discontinued Mega Stuf Oreo O’s, I contacted Post directly and they confirmed it was discontinued, as was Sour Patch Kids. 😞 One cereal I really miss was Smurfs cereal from the 80s. I have never been able to find a suitable replacement and I distinctly remember the flavor. It was like Strawberry and Blue Raspberry flavored and it was sooo good.

There was one limited run cereal I remember from when I was about seven or eight years old that I really wish was permanent. My mom and I both loved it. It was a Winnie the Pooh cereal shaped like the honey pots, and it had a honey flavoring. But like, you could actually taste the honey; not like Honey Nut Cheerios where there’s just like a mild hint. It was so good and I was so disappointed that it was a limited run thing. Also Strider, please make a list of best Canadian cartoons!

I grew up with the Flintstones, and I am inclined to agree with you about younger people not really being into the original cartoon today. It should be stated though that the show was originally written for adults on prime time (its original sponsor was Winston Cigarettes),. By the fifth season or so (after Pebbles and Bamm Bamm were added to the show), it became more juvenile and was moved to Saturday morning TV. I still like the cartoon when I catch it, and really liked the DC comics reboot by Mark Russell which was a limited series and did a really good job of updating the series (like renaming Fred and Barney's lodge, Loyal Order of Water Buffalos, Veterans of the Paleolithic Wars).
