You know, I use to practice ball control with the assistance of a fully grown German shepherd. It helped me improve my skills while accelerating the thought process of each skill. These dogs have great stamina so it also helps improve stamina greatly. Believe me, if you can juke and get away from a German shepherd you can take on any defender.

Messi does this all the time and he's the best dribbler (probably) of all time. This skill might be simple in theory, but it takes a long time to master it, as it depends on how the defender reacts to your feint.

So true, and all defenders are so different in their defending style. I find approaching their back (if they are standing side on) to be the most effective way of beating them 😁 Some quick feet are needed regardless

Im a right wing back and sometimes struggle defending against very rapid dribblers who who love dribbling. They sometimes cut in and then create opportunities. Could you do a video on defedning and like 1 v 1s. I know I have to try to push them on their weak foot and outside, but it is hard when I have two opponents which is quite common for me when their opponent defender pushes up aswell. I often end up having two opponents.

Try to learn to choose right priorities order. You should defend the most dangerous (and shortest) way of possible attack development and opponent action (prevent shooting first and trying to force opponent to pass the bal to a flank for crosses as crossing and voleys and heading from crossing is more difficult technical actions and requires a lot of skill).Force opponent to play less valuable option like pass to the flank, shoot from less dengerous area like more sharp corner, weak foot, etc. This could be confirmed and explained even mathematically with probability theory, that each action has some probability of success (success rate) and the more actions (sequence of actions) is required to score goal the less overall probability will be. So force opponents to take ways which need sequence with more actions to score goal. It's firstly. Secondly - dynamic priorities anв direction of movement. Pay attention to opponent who has higher speed of movement and be ready to react to him. If you have to choose whom to cover first - give higher priority to opponent who is moving more rapidly in more danger zone and less attention to that who in more static position and less dangerous. If opposing team wing back is coming at high speed for crossover - you can follow him (guide him) and close one of the passing lines (options) to him to the moment when he get into offside (take narrow position closer to the center or your CD to prevent most dangerous through ball passing option that will cut you out). If pass didn't go to him, then switch back to player with the ball as he's the man with the ball and man with the ball is the BOSS at the moment. Also if you see that there will be attempt for crossover run you can come closer to dribbler (the closer you to the opponent the harder for him to pass - the more wider angle or passing lines will be necessary for succesfull pass and that is what you need - to force him to play less direct-diagonal (fast way) and more sideway (slow way). But all this options require a lot of practice. Against rapid dribblers try to press and position yourself close to him (close the gap between you and him when he receives the ball) asap to prevent accelerating to speed where you will be strugling to defend as his higher speed is more advantageus but still take some gap to not be outplayed with first touch in movement. It will be successfull press if opponent will be forsed to play backwards to your goal under pressure or pass back or sideway. Check where is and how far your CD or DM, do you have defensive cover. If dribbler is far from your goals and you have cover from partners you can try to tackle opponent asap end if you lose duel it's not tragedy and big problem, continue to play, you will have time to run back to help your CD who's next to act against dribbler, take his position and cover him or his zone. As many problems in game could be resolved in a couple of ways. So just think them out for yourself "on a paper", watch how professionals and TOP players act in similar situations for some solutions and practice, practice, practice. Don't be ashamed and don't be afraid to make mistakes (even best option don't have 100% rate of success, you can do tactically all perfectly but still have some unsuccessfull blocks of shots that will lead to the goal or unblocked crosses (from time to time with some probability percentages) or opponent will do all perfectly also and there is nothing you can do with that. Try different ways in trainings and matches, analyse and try again (trial and error method is OK until you think and analyse outcomes, how often each tactic give success or fail). Just know what is your tactic are, what you are doing and why right now so you can explain it for yourself and for coach if he will ask, for example. Make mistakes with confidence and be confident in your mistakes, be able to explain them that "I tried that way because of this and this and I try to figure out this situation in different ways and this time I choose to play like that".

@@НечуйЛевицький-й6к thanks bro. Must have taken a lot of time writing. Yes I do try to close gaps between the striker and me. I have def become a lot better. I have learned that pressing the attacker is key but not completlety jumping in. Just force the attacker to make a move you will ne able to deal with and then clear the ball or pass it to youre team mate depending on the situation.
@НечуйЛевицький-й6к
@НечуйЛевицький-й6к Жыл бұрын
@@johann8103 Yeah, writing took some time :), but I will be glad if something will be helpful. Besides WB (or FB) position is one of the most difficult and require wide range of abilities and skills (phisically and technically) - to be very fast with excellent stamina at the same time, to be good in defence and attack with some aggression (like a bull terier) and acuracy at the same time plus excellent technical skills (almost all of them should be at higher than average level). It's not easy to become good WB or FB and even harder to reach TOP class. Hope you have some determination and hard-working (and smart-working with correct metodology) to develop all those. Best players in team play WB (FB), next Messi may be WB or even it may be you.

The fact that simple tricks like the feint the, the cruyff chop... survived all the way to this day including the golden ages of defending (70s- early 00s) where dudes like baresi, beckenbauer, scirea, puyol, maldini... (dudes that make todays defenders look like pre schoolers in comparison) is testimony enough to the raw unprecedented effectiveness of those moves. I may be a little biased in terms of what i like to see on a pitch couse in my school days football was still treated as a full contact sport with PE teachers only ever usin their whistles to stop the game after deliberate fouls but i vividly recall that the only skills that had any worthwhile success rates were the simple ones.

But couldn’t you body feint in defence? Pretend you’re going one way and go the other, hoping that the attacker has already decided to try to feint you so you’ve only anticipated their move? Or I could just not move up into the attacker’s space, let them come to me and make them uncomfortable to the point that I force his/her hand. As a defender that previous example is what I try to do, or at least to not make a move until I know because if they’re not feinting I have trust in my speed and ability to tackle to make up for the split-second delay… it’s better then getting outright violated. Being observant is the best trick a defender has to combat this.

As a defender most players don’t do this because they are not both footed. And your only gonna pull this once going a single direction…then I’m taking the ball off your foot. With Both footed strikers it’s a nightmare because I have to commit at the range and then you change and I am hosed. It’s like penalty shots I got a 50/50 chance of guessing wrong.

as a defender i find that the most successful counter against this technique (on amateur level) is to stick your rear leg out, risking that the opponent trips over your leg (if the opponent feels more at home in drama class... like most of the pro players, it is not recommended). this is especially effective in tight spaces where the opponent doesnt have the room to move far to the side. if this doesnt work well for you just forget about it. i apparently have great risk assessment and barely ever make a foul while still defending aggressively.

The fact that the players of yore can do those sort of things with that horrible ball should have everyone's respect. My uncle had one of those 1940s footballs--the school that he went to was poor and accepted church donations--in the 1960s. Teenagers would be reduced to tears just heading the damn thing. Oh, it doesn't feel that bad taking out of the shed, but after two 90-minute matches, they might as well be made of stone. Makes me wonder what Garrincha could do with balls like the Jabulani or the Fever Nova of the 2000s.

Now whenever I use the body feints in a game a defender will always be faked and beaten and some times depends on what the situation is when I use the body feint defenders fall down, best move to dribble past defenders ever!

Body feints are the best skills. Messi, Ronaldinho, Frenkie de Jong, Mitoma, Dembele, all rely on this skill as the basis.

Basics skills are quicker then flashy skills, the only flashy skill I would use in a match is rainbow and sombrero which I would use if I’m stuck somewhere with defenders surrounding me, I’d just lump it over there heads.

my brother was a great player and i realised a skill he was doing to get past players easily was to pass one foot to the other then run past defenders so simple but worked every time as the defender would go in on the first foot

Slow defender here. Very effective skill if you can get close to the defender. If you try it every time the defender may start backing off then you need to think about passing. Players who only want to dribble can be easy to handle because you can leave a big gap so its impossible to go around you and you dont have to worry about them passing because they arent even thinking about it. The scariest player is the one that drives at you and then passes, not much to be done there.
