Love this movie. Totally underrated. Another masterpiece by the late great Jerry Goldsmith

when i heard this movie was, currently, the biggest box office flop ever, after watching the scene where this plays about 3 times, meanwhile crap like Twilight and Avatar make billions...i can honestly say its dented my faith in humanity.

+Ryagful dude I am right there with you, and I didn't even know it did that bad till this past year. I used to own this on DVD before some ass hat stole it from me. it really is messed up that this didn't get the viewing it needed. still now its a cult-classic, and i am okay with that.
@EnzoTheBaker4 жыл бұрын
Avatar isn't crap. Twilight I don't care for and never saw, but you don't speak for the teenage girls who liked seeing buff shirtless dudes and their favorite Young Adult novel come to life. It's their thing, so leave it at that. I love video games, but imagine if someone went "Man, this book is a real powerful experience. Not that dumb, mindless video game crap that young people play these days. Novels have REAL characters and stories where you think and feel." If you're going to pick overrated crap, pick better overrated crap like Transformers. Barely anyone defends those movies.

It also has to be remembered that Goldsmith only had 3 weeks to score the re-cut '13th Warrior', that he was 69 years old and that he may have been experiencing the early stages of prostate cancer when he worked on the film. In the '60's/'70's composers might have up to 10 - 12 weeks to score a film. 3 weeks is barely enough time to compose 60 minutes (or more) of adequate music. You can hear the limitations in all scores written in that time frame, i.e. Horner's 'Aliens', etc.

I recognise the theme for Banderas as being basically from 'The Mummy', but I'm not so sure about Zimmer's 'Crimson Tide'. Maybe that was used by Chrichton as the temp score for his cut of 'The 13th Warrior', but I still think Goldsmith's theme is sufficiently different and much more focused.

Yes I do. There are about 14 more tracks on the bootleg score. Some range from 30 seconds to nearly five minutes. However I must note that most range from 30 seconds to 90 seconds. The Bootleg score also comes with the end credits suite which is about 4 minutes and 27 seconds. One track is when they first notice the child running after escaping the Wendal. Another track that's included is when they are meeting the old mad woman. Also the Arab Horse scene, impressing the Norse men is included.
