I really like the Irish reg plate system. “Year” - “County” - “Number” The year is the year of registration and since 2013 it also includes a 1 for January-June and a 2 for July-December. The county is the English abbreviation for the county it was registered in. The numbers are assigned in order. The first person to register a car in that county that year gets “1”, the second person gets “2” and so on. A random reg plate would look something like: “181-D-49267” for the 49267th car registered in the first six months of 2018 in county Dublin.

But why the Japanese for Delaware and UAE? Although I only know Chinese and not Japanese, I can at least know that the Japanese titlecard for Delaware isn't correct: 最初の状態 does mean "original state", but specifically "the original particular condition something was in at a specific time", not as in "the first state in chronological terms that constituted the United States". I think the correct Japanese should be something like 第一の州 (correct me if I'm wrong, again I'm basing this off Chinese and not Japanese) For anyone wondering, Chinese-language speakers can at least read (mentally understand) Japanese kanji, even if they don't know how they're pronounced. Although not all Japanese kanji have the same meaning in Chinese, a very substantial portion does, which is why tourists from China and Taiwan sometimes can have Japanese locals understand them if they write out the Chinese characters

Wtf why are American license plates so cheap? Here in Australia they start at $300 and that's just to actually have it made. And then you're not even allowed to have it until you pay another $450+ annual fee for it. And even then it's not even yours. They take it off you if you stop paying the fee or your registration expires

The best license plate is just your initials: I'm sure the cops appreciate it
@mcearl80734 жыл бұрын
I think they do. I don’t have my initials, just my last name. 2 times I forgot to renew my registration and got pulled over immediately so I’m assuming these fucking cops just drive around typing plate numbers into their system to find someone to pull over and mine is easier than some string of numbers and letters. I definitely wouldn’t do any vanity plate again unless it was on some unique car already, I only keep it because it was my grandfathers and then my grandmothers when he died and I got it when she died.

@@mcearl8073 most cop cars are now equipped with automation that scans and runs all plates that it can see and notifies the cop if hits on anything.

@@danieldaniels7571 I talked to someone else recently that said the same thing so that makes sense. I’d imagine that’s also why they quit sending us stickers for our license plates in PA

My parents kept telling me that people over in China will pay lots of money for plates with the number 8, because 8 represents prosperity. My dad claimed that buying the license plate '8' or '88888888' would take be very expensive.

If you have a "premium" license plate in Dubai you are above the law. Police wouldn't stop you, you won't get any speeding ticket etc.

I live in Dubai and i thought this craze for number plates (paying millions) normal. I just had a friend purchase a number for 2 million dirhams 😂😂 And don't worry, any number plate that is auctioned here is for a charitable cause so all the proceeds for that $14 million number plate and $9 million number plate went to charity ❤
