I worked out in a gym when I was younger and the owner was an old time powerlifter. He was always in the gym and if he saw you lifting more than you could handle, he would tell you reduce the weight, it's too heavy. I saw a really big guy, about 260 pounds tell the owner to go fuck off. Big mistake. The owner slapped that big guy silly and threw him out on the street, never to return. We need more gym owners like him.

Personal Trainer here. If you just lift a reasonable amount of weight, with a full range of motion, you can actually build some muscle. I can pull 500 deadlift, (cat back) or squat 500 (quarter rom) but that isn't building any muscle.

I know what you’re trying to say, but if you can bench 315 for 8 and you want to test your one rep max, you find someone to spot you and you keep adding weight and trying reps (FULL REPS) till failure. Then you’ve found your 1 rep max. If you want to get used to holding the weight, you have spotter help you up, pause, then carefully set it down. You don’t bash out crap for the ego. Oh and i could probably do what he was doing. Not worth anythinggggg you’re not strong, you’re just damaging equipment.

I have an explanation for the first one. This lift is a type of exercise involving a none rep oriented action. In these you are not supposed to move the bar, merely try your hardest to. Athlean - X had a video put out about, though it was about the bench press; which can work in these exercises as well.

My brother was testing his limits some years ago...Being a sensible man, he almost always played around what he could do without any kind of spotting. I think he peacked at 155 kg, i was spotting for him that day for safety, never touched the weights i think he did 2 clean reps. No steroids ofcourse. All kinds of guys were coming to him saying how they did 160, 180, 200kg when they saw him benchpressing his usual 140+ kg full clean solo reps. Yet i had never seen one of them performing close to that and when some of then did it was with spotting similar to these videos..All they wanted to do is brag.

I'm a pretty big casual when it comes to the gym, I do what's comfortable to me. These types of videos actually put my anxiety at ease. As I came to like working out more and more I was afraid I was becoming vain. I know when I first started I'd load the heck outta the seated calf raise and do lil baby reps while pulling up on it like a mofo. It be upwards of 250lbs... that I was the shizz. Now I just cringe. It helped I think cuz I can move 100lbs with full range, pausing at top and bottom for 2 seconds. But yeah... if ya don't have anyone to tell you what's up you'll be a fool

Actually the guy using the spotting bars in the cage lifting it up partially is using a powerlifting technique called partial movements where you lower the bar every week or two until you can do a full repetition with 20% more than your max.
